Haha I read through and know the feeling you going through.. Right now I'm looking at 300cc range bikes for the same reason - not overly powerful that I become too scared to ride and not too big that I can't cilok..
The G310R is a good choice.. Others you can consider are
1. D400 - cheapest but heaviest in this list. 14k otr and the service centre is via modenas which is quite good.
2. Kawasaki Z300 - old bike and in bright yellow, some shops still selling this at 20k new. might be worth just going for the new Z250 same price same power slightly lower torque compared to the 300
3. Kawasaki Z400 latest version but in blue.. 30k range.. So price wise a 600cc might sway you
4. Zontes 310 - China bike but feature pack for the price (20k). Only thing to worry is the aftersale service.. No dedicate zontes workshop like modenas or kawasaki.. So have to gamble with a bike shop u trust..

Personally i am leaning towards the zontes but holding off my purchase to next month.. Now scouting around bike shops that carry this brand and checking out their after sales macam mana..

considering ninja 300 with abs, but the big jump from RM50 to RM180 roadtax...is it worth it? hmm.gif

the z400 or ninja 400 is the sweet spot drool.gif but not in terms of price...z650 around the same price tho sweat.gif

May be should consider scooter with at least 150cc engine. You’ll be more focused to accelerate and leaving all vehicles behind.

It was mentioned in this forum... ride like everyone is trying to kill you. 😄

i think scooter 150 isn't that noticeably faster than clutched 150 hmm.gif

ride like everyone is trying to kill you....agree 100%, that's literally what i'm facing...to me it becomes a necessity to upgrade bike...to pull away from crazy car drivers in narrow roads im using icon_question.gif

Yea the z400 n ninja 400 is the sweet spot.. Definitely a bigger jump in terms of the powahhh and torque over the 250/300 options.. But the price just doesn't make sense.. At that price the 600cc bikes dah come into play..

As for the road tax I would say its the least of our worries.. The jump in maintenance would be higher.. Engine bigger = more engine oil.. Twin cylinder = more oil, tires for sure more expensive.. Insurance pun sama... Workshop would also charge a premium just because you know.. moto besar boss.. even if its the same thing maintenance wise..

But in the end for me, its worth it.. 150cc not enough grunt to get out of those sticky situations..

Hi,

Looking to upgrade my FZ150i with another more powerful bikes as I'm commuting to work daily using non-highway, NARROW back road. The problem is always gets bullied by cars and modded rempit mopeds.

The mopeds I dont mind, but the cars always overtake and squeezing into my lane, despite following closely car in front. ranting.gif

I want to overtake, so I'm utilizing the rpm limit but without any significant acceleration  sweat.gif . The road only has 1 lane for each direction, so its quite dangerous for slow bikes to overtake cars.  sad.gif

Do you think 250cc makes a huge difference? or do i need to look into B full bikes like 650cc? Thanks sifu!  notworthy.gif

would you consider 2 stroke bikes?

250 cukup. Try mt25. If you want pawa and stability of course go higher CC but you trade off with the agility and nimble of mopeds.

between mt25 and r25, i see the width body r25 is narrower. Like z250 and ninja 250, the ninja is narrower. Is full fairing 250 narrower body better for ciloking? hmm.gif

What is your budget? if you have 40k to spend, i would recommend MT-07. I also like you, upgrading from fz150 to this bike. It is not much wider than FZ, so better for cilok. The weight also not much more than 250. Torque is monstrous. But with a bit of throttle control, not much difference from FZ. With 5k rpm(max 10.5k), you can cruise at 130kmh,so less strain on the engine.

Maintainance and insurance/road tax is the biggest disadvantage of owning a bigger cc bike. Insurance can cost more than 1k if your ncd are 0 and road tax is rm250. Tyre also quite expensive because it uses 180/55 17 inch tyres. Cost of fuel is around rm20 for full tank(using ron97) and can go around 250km. More if you willing to ride on E.

I understand, plus you need to spend 1.5k and time for B Full license. As for z650, i never ride it, so i cannot give exact opinions but i got test ride Ninja 650, same engine. I feel like the engine a bit jerky, not smooth. That might be just my opinion only.

For 25k, i suggests to get new 250cc bike compared to second hand 650cc. Not worth the hassle of repairing. The cost will add up really fast. For example, if the bike you buy is using old tyres or chain, that is around rm 600 that you have to spend soon after.

I believe those who are mulling for bigger cc (or powerful bike) already figured that the maintenance cost will increase when compared to lower cc counterpart. Otherwise, no point discussing on upgrading bike.

About B full thingy, how frequent u need to undergo the test? every month? it is just one effing time.

I guess more of the time commitment needed..

B full if with B2 means no need to go to class (which is 2 days saved) but does require you to go for 2 x 3hour lessons on different days. Then have to go QTI and then only able to go for JPJ test. Failed QTI then you need to repeat it again. Failed JPJ test =repeat again. Time wise it would take around 5-days spread over however long it is needed.

Its a small thing but for some it's a huge commitment issue.

If you fz150 user any 250 cc is pretty plentiful actually.

It's fast and more importantly manageable handling.

Faster bike means bigger bike. Bigger bike means harder to handle. It also mean more dangerous for you and makes you slower.

My suggestion is go for 250 cc less
As this type is city friendly and you still can outrun those modi kapchai

I considered that as one time. Fail JPJ means u are not ready to ride bigger bike. either stick with current bike or improve.

For low seat height and more power, I think there's really just Honda Rebel.

Annual insurance 600~700 (2~3x than FZ150i)
Roadtax RM180 (RM2 for FZ150i)
Tyre 600 every 8k~12k
