From the feedback I gathered from those who bought onkyo from me..

1st - You need a tripod or stand and mount the microphone on top of it to get a definite tune sound from the program audessey!

2nd - The lower the ambient noise the better, so do the setup at night where most activities are minimum, switch off all sound source, eg fan, aircon and your wife too etc

3rd - Get the sub woofer range separated from the front speaker, which means if the sub cut at 100Hz, The front should take the rest above 100Hz and so..
Some may disagree this, and prefer a mix subwoofer, front speaker bass combination! This is true as no speakers are created equal and combining them will definately unique for each setup.

4th - The default is 80Hz but most people found 120hz is their best cut point

heard that the newer models can do upconversion - even from composite source. So can it upconvert astro signal to something better?
*
it has been sometimes onkyo release av receivers that are able to unconvert visual to higher res.

You can start looking the 605 and above to have this features...

As for astro, you can feed the avr using S video instead of composite!

The purpose of upconversion is to improve picture quality! I never had the oppurtunity to witness is myself .. coz mine 505E is just a passthru HDMI switch!

What is the difference with the ONKYO European AVR or Asia AVR?

is it the power current voltage different? Any sifus know?
*
The asia AVR carries two voltage selector, you can switch either 220V or 110v! While the europe is a single transformer type fix at 220V. Why is that?

This is due to the fact that the Asia AVR also been exported to other part of Asia that need either 110V (such as some middle east countries) and like us Malaysia, Singapore 220v.

Japan and US models on the other hand, having fix 110V Transformer inside the AVR.

In term of material, the Asia AVR is much heavier compared to the Europe version since the avr carries extra weight due to the twin voltage transformer(extra winding). The Europe is middle weight. And the US/Japan is the lightest among all! You got to compare this within similar model of coz.

Then in term of material again, the US/Japan should be cheaper to produce since less material is needed!

OK, regarding power!

The power remain the same if you compared the 110V and 220V model, the only different shall be the current at the transformer side, once the voltage is converted to DC, all will remain the same inside the system!

In term of quality,

There are claims stating that onkyo Europe models are better in term of quality, the sound, the component and bla bla bla! But of coz, nobody knows how true the claims were! Even onkyo itself wont 'layan' such questions if ask to explain!

But if you ever work in a QC dept on any manufacturing companies b4, then you know the answer to this well!

This is bread and butter stories....anyway it is just one person point of view!

i agree with u bro... but i bought the 875 without any auditions, just based on good reviews. Besides, it's not easy to find a shop that has stock of both the speakers & receiver combos that you like. But luckily my combo turned out very satisfactory for me.
*
Great to hear people enjoying the 875 performance....me waiting my 875 soon!

so u getting the discounted bulk 875 @ RM3.3k? that's a hell of a deal i tell ya...
*
After all this years, i still stuck with 3 speakers upfront of my AVR.... still planning to do a proper HT setup with speakers at the back and flatscreen etc! I just cant live with too many wires lying on the floor...need to properly hide it underneath the floor or wall

Yes, regarding the discount bulk offered recently, no i didnt get mine thru that channel! In fact i got my own source and planning to get half dozen of 875 and one of them is gonna be for my own usage!

The rest gonna distribute to friends and maybe few will be sold here! nod.gif
