is it true that even after currency conversion, hifi products in singapore are cheaper than the ones sold in malaysia?

Ya-la M'sia got 15% tax on AV/ Hi-Fi products. Although Onkyo is produced in M'sia & we should save on shipping cost vmad.gif

Yes, can but don't expect mirage. There is slight improvement only. If you expect the Astro picture quality will look like bluray after upscale, you will be disappointed.

Ai-yah y u didn't post this earlier cry.gif I told my HM I wanted to get new AVR coz she can view Astro in 1080p like the blue-ray movies we c demo the shop. After sudah beli she marah me fr cheating her, only slight difference

That was part 1, part 2 I told her no good coz 'cap ayam' cables. In order to fully realize the potential of FullHD need branded HDMI 1.3 cables, bought and pasang oredi..... no difference!!! So to make her happy must pay fr her visit to the saloon mad.gif

But then thats my experience, there r many ppl who swear only by switching to M***ter cable the Astro become HD whistling.gif

thanks for the reply. still tweaking with it. i put back astro S-Video connection back direct to HDTV. picture quality better. Will buy better HDMI cable latter. my problem my wife not happy as she has to switch on so many things just to watch astro as audio connected to AV amp. notice astro got digital audio out. may i use this to connect to av amp?

another problem Jamo speaker brown colour doesn't match my interior and my wife rather upset. i may i hv to sell this speakers. sad.gif

suresh

p.s too many remotes. any suggestion for a universal remote

thanks

Hope u have not 'upgraded' ur HDMI yet coz I doubt it will make much difference....

U need to adjust the setting on ur AVR upscaler (NR, BR ect) the 6 series will have more options and u need to play around to c what is the optimum adjustment. Go to audioholic and search under onkyo AV (your model) and u can find the recommended adjustment. If it is done correctly, u will definitly c a mark improvement in PQ (upscaled 1080i + HDMI vs. S-video) but don't expect HDTV quality tongue.gif For digital media (DVD) the improvement in PQ is veryx2 noticable unless u have been using HDMI DVDP all the time then no difference or mayb PQ suffer alittle depending whether ur AVR upscaler is superior or inferior to ur DVDP.

My wifey oso had problems initially but now used to it; actually need to switch on 1 additional unit only-mah (AVR)

The irritating thing bout onkyo is it takes about 10 seconds to feed to the LCD and sometimes the LCD does not pick up the HDMI signal at all. Mayb the 6 series have resolved the problem (I'm using the 5 series)

IT Hypermart chain - saw the Harmony 885 in their Ikano outlet selling for RM399. Not sure if the offer is still on. I think its normal price is around RM700.

Wow, good deal 45% discount.... what different feature btw 885 & 525?

Btw isn't our onkyo remote a learning remote? I actually program it to control even my ceiling fan icon_idea.gif

Horny, I copied ur DIY using a h/p charger and after 3 months it nearly fried my AVR!

The set-up tripped while I was watching a movie & after much tinkering around much to my relief only the charger & surge protector were got fried. (mind u everything is connected to my AVR) Now lookin fr a safer alternative... don't wan another heartattack. There is a usb port in the av and its written in the manual that its 12v, wonder whether it will be usable to power a usb fan

Bout the fan in d onkyo.... heard bout it but never seen it in action. Sometime watch 5 hours of Astro upscaled via AVR oso fan never activate. Is it only available in certain models?

U r using Onkyo 905 right? the Onkyo avr Taikor!  rclxms.gif  U meant ur hp charger got fried? PRC make? Nothing to do with ur Onkyo right? As for using the Onkyo USB, I will not use it as it might affect the pcb inside. I perfer to buy another hp charger & use the Onkyo ac outlet as it is safer. nod.gif
*
Dunno whether PCR made or not (although I'm fond of buying AP stuff blush.gif ) just used an old h/p charger I had laying around in the storeroom. Has been taikor-la now the title should go to 907 (got ar?) Luckily not much news bout the 7 series (stopped goin to Audioholic) or else need to scratch the upgrade itch

M thinkin of buying 1 of those mini table fan (made in PRC) but like I said been using onkyo for long hours so far no problem xcept for the small incident.

How can the setup tripped? U leave the fan wire exposed?
*
Not the set-up tripped, the whole house black-out!!! After some investigation only found out it was the DIY fan. Dunno why but all wires were properly terminated and used heatshrink to protect (learned fr speaker wires DIY biggrin.gif ) Probably like what Horny said 'PRC made charger'

if can, should just install aircon in room. placing a fan on top of your avr will generate a lot more dust inside.
*
Bro,

The fan is suppose to 'pull' hot air fr the AVR not blow into the AVR hence dusting is minimal

I power the notebook cooler fan using my Onkyo 905 AVR USB port.
One simple solution if your Onkyo AVR don't have USB port, just buy USB hub with power adapter. Connect the USB power fan to USB hub.
*
Bingo! Finally got the answer..... so the usb port can be used to power a 12v fan rclxms.gif Off to Digital mall to buy a usd fan

After like 2 weeks, finally got a bit of time to read the manual. Phew.....sure is a lot of stuffs. I check my dvd(no hdmi) has this component video cable. its now connected using composite video cable. can someone recommend me what brand to get for component video cable, less than rm100 and more importantly where to get one.

am still quite blur. why is the AV have video in and video out. Does the video signal goes in and come out better than say dvd player direct to tv. i can understand audio but not video into AV. Is that upscaling? I currently hv conventional tv, would that make a difference.

my jamo tower front speaker got 2 terminals. but they connect only using 1 terminal(one +, one -). I cannot find any instruction manual on Jamo why got this 2 terminal. Is that Bi-Amping? I read the AV manual on Bi-Amping and regret i dunno how its been connected(yes, even with the picture).

Is outdoor TV antenna can be used to connect to FM? and the manual says to ground it. how to ground outdoor antenna.

Sorry if someone could help.
*
Cheapy Component cables can buy fr Hypermarket but y not abit more (mayb RM120.00) get better shielding and termination

Video in & out i.e. upscaling-la; since u only have component jacks fr ur source (DVD) connect it to ur AVR and video out use hdmi to ur TV then u get at least 720p or mayb 1080p depending on ur model.

If got 2 PAIRs of terminal then can bi-wire or bi-amp.... use ur front for 1 pair of terminals & surround back for the other pair but make sure u get the right connection + to + & - to -, L to L & R to R.... Quite simple really.

There is a grounding screw at the back of ur AVR but dunno how to do it as I didn't ground coz hardly use fm

For the price I would agree cannot complain much. Don't know about 12R, but with my 12Q I'm getting quite good bass. There's quite a bit of slam and impact. I believe EQ'ing helps and I've run the auto-EQ on the 12Q plus Audyssey on my receiver too and it has flattened out the response.

Of course I've not heard the SVS so I am very curious how much better it is. I do expect the SVS to go deeper and louder. Wondering if it is also cleaner hmm.gif
*
Aiyo R series don't have auto-EQ-la only used onkyo's audyssey. I think velo plays loud enuf but the bass is kinda loose (i.e. not as 'clean'?) & does not go as low as SVS

How do you find it after the Audyssey?

For me, after built in auto EQ got slight improvement. Run Audyssey some more improvement. Yes, still got some looseness in the bass but I reduced that using my home built 'subdude'. So after 2 rounds of EQ plus the 'subdude' the bass is better. In terms of reducing looseness the most effective is the 'subdude'.
*
Dunno-la, was using an 8" 80 watt sub b/4..... once get Velo straight away did audyssey calibration so did not do b/4 & after comparison.

Wow subdude tighten the bass. Mayb wait for HTkaki's 'made in M'sia' subdude brows.gif

I upgraded my old Onkyo 875 to a 876 last week.

I have to say the implementation of the Onkyo 876 is really great. The new options like ISF night/day/custom, they new Audyssey microphone, some new Audyssey (Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume) options are really great.

I also believe that the Reon bug for the colour space conversion is also fixed now. Really for the price range, the amount of options are really good.

For those who have displays that do not have grayscale adjustments, this is definately something to look seriously at. With the ISF controls you have custom grayscale for each input. I would recommend this amp for anyone with displays that have limited controls.

Also with the 2 HDMI output it is very flexible. You can choose to upscale thru one output and send the signal through in the other.

The new Audyssey microphone gets most of the speaker trims spot on, so further adjustments with the SPL meters are not really necessary. Also the sound seems more accurate post Audyssey.

Will update more as I spend more time with it.

Ai-yo poison!!! What did u do with ur 875? Trade-in?
