Guys recently i saw my friends transitioning from Adobe premiere Pro to davinci resolve for video editing

Apparently the gpu usage for resolve is more extensive compared to premiere Pro, and can result in much faster decoding encoding times

Which one do you guys prefer to use?

Did you transition or you started from resolve

Resolve seems to utilise 100% cuda cores unlike pp

Pp doesn't seem to improve with more powerful gpus

resolve simply because of it has free version... adobe is now subscription based and is expensive... unfeasible for personal use...

Start with Resolve. Yes cuda required but very stable and powerful. Realtime 4K scrubbing and editing.

tbh the free version is good enough... I can do proper colour grading etc...
the paid version have more advanced feature and FX that can make editing easier...
plus is a one time purchase USD299
but personally the free version is more than good enough for my use case...

GPU not essential, as long got cuda enough and u can wait. It’s CPU RAM Storage combo you need to focus for ultimate editing experience. Rending u can wait lo.

I run dual Xeon E5 V4 systems (20C + 20C * 2 under HT). Each CPU about RM11,000.

Probably you want to go for cheaper single Xeon CPU + DDR4 ECC ram + NVMe on PCIe slot. This is recommended setup for realtime 4K editing workflow.

Interesting

But that price is definitely eye watering for me

I gotta check out price performance before i really take the dive for upgrading

Meanwhile i guess i have to figure out whether it can run on my system by getting the free version.

Have to figure out the workflow coming from premiere. Was wondering whether can manage the new workflow easily from anybody transitioning from premiere to resolve

I went from Sony to Premiere to Resolve. smile.gif

However Resolve won't be able to utilize GPU rendering unless it's the studio version, that one about RM 1.5k.

That being said, the GPU does help with other stuff.

Like say if you use 3D text, last time I was on GTX 1050 and it was no go. I upgraded to RX 470 and things turn out better.

Also last time I was using 16GB RAM and Davinci Resolve was pretty much a crash fest when things get heavy and / or additional software are running. Now running 32GB and it's no longer an issue.

Finally someone who transitioned biggrin.gif

Is it worthwhile in terms of workflow, speed and functionality?

Plus better performance for lesser pc rigs

First I have to start with a reference point, my videos are like this https://www.youtube.com/goldfries

Typically my videos use 2 - 3 tracks for visuals and audio. They're not complex type.

One thing I like most is that I no longer need to rely on Adobe CC. It's annoying that one has to keep logging in and limited to 2 machines and all.

Workflow and functionality - what I like about Davinci Resolve is that it's rich, editing of the color and sound can all be done in one software.

What it lacks is what Adobe has, like able to use with After Effects.

All in all I feel that Adobe is still the stronger one due to its ecosystem BUT for my purpose, Davinci Resolve works better.

i moved from resolved to premier.. but it was done long time ago. At that time, people already created lots of cool transition template for premier, but I couldn't find any template for resolve. It has to be done manually, So, it's time consuming. So, I switched to premier.

Thanks for the valuable input

Yeah when i saw it was all seemingly in one place, it seems very appealing. But forgot about the adobe ecosystem.

But the subscription is really pita especially when times are rough

Very valid point

So many things to look into, often won't realise until try the actual workflow
