So I stay in a condo and since the beginning of the year , there's this new guy that moved in above me and they are so noisy I can hear them everyday . All kinds of noise like furniture dragging , doors opening and closing , door slamming , footsteps noise , even got children screaming.

Have complained to management multiple times but doesn't help, they only give warning . Called guard don't know how many times already . I have talked to them but they are offensive and deny everything.

Any idea how to deal with these people?

Move to another unit or another condo. Only this time, move to top floor unit.

My experience here. Just moved in to a new condo which is not really cheap. Upstairs neighbour also very noisy from 10am till 2am everyday. Furniture dragging, door slamming, stomping, things constantly dropped on the floor. Since moving in, I got insomnia everyday. Talked to them politely and for few days the situation got better like 10%, then it started again. I got no choice but to report to management, then guess what? They got offended and make it their responsibility to make my life a living hell. Even more noisy than before. I’m now staying with my brother in his house, meanwhile looking out for landed house which can give me a good night’s sleep. Will forfeit all my security deposit which is around 4.5k. Trust me it’s really frustrating and you feel really helpless.

Children screaming - nothing you can do lah, its natural.
Footstep noise - children do one, hard to control, unless 1030pm to 7 am, not acceptable lah.
If got baby noise, this one you can't do anything because you can't ask the baby to stop crying.

Step 1 :-
1) Go upstairs, use the staircase, but if your condo got 3 point security system - ask guard to give you access. Take your hp, stand outside the fella door, and record the noise. Email to Maintenance office, and file a nuisance complaint
2) Go to Daiso, Ace Hardware - buy those chair socks and rubber sticker (pass to maintenance office to pass to the owner/tenant)
3) Go to Ace hardware - buy those rubber sticker and provide instruction to stick on the door frame (pass to maintenance office to pass to owner/tenant)
4) Request Maintenance office to send personnel to repair the upstair main door closer.
5) Buy those interlocking cheap rubber pad from Daiso, pass to owner/tenant
6) Follow up with maintenance office ask them whether they got pass to owner/tenant and whether they agree to do or not

Step 2:-
1) If the upstair still stubborn not want to accept those proposal you do for them, time for next step
2) everytime you hear noise after 1030 pm to 7 am, call guard to go upstairs and harass them
3) go upstair and record more sound via hp and email complain to maintenance office
4) write more official complaint letter
5) go with guard to knock knock upstair and bring rubber sticker and chair socks to pass to the upstair
6) go mix with resident committee people, casually ask them what can be done

Step 3:-
1) If all else fails, report to polis.

Conclusion: this is because of shitty developers. Their standard of construction is crap. Door slamming sound is not acceptable because they failed to put absorber on the door frame. WHo is this shitty developer ? you should create an anonymous site, and complain about this shitty development.

Brilliant idea to pass them those rubber pads / socks for furniture. Should solve furniture dragging noise.

Can buy a couple more extras (they CHEAP AF anyway) and ask them to return the unused ones at a later date. This will set up a communication / review between you and your noisy neighbour. Also gives you an excuse to knock on their door again (for return) to see if they give AF.

Of course passing to them personally is best since you know who you'd be dealing with.

However that would depend on whether the upstairs agree to use it or not.

usually their excuse would be, I didn't do it, its upstair on top of my unit.

but for me, no harm, just receive the chair socks, at least TS can nullify or cross out one factor that is not coming from upstairs but may be from one floor above the upstairs.

that goes to show how low quality is our condo, not for human to live one, build like shit, low quality, lack sound absorbing build quality, I have faced dragging sound coming 3 floors above me b4.

I never get this problem when I stayed in condo & service apartment in HK and UK.

Maintenance office is not the enforcer for noisy residents. You are using them for the wrong role. They are as powerless as you or the polis.

well, can use them.

because they report to resident committee.

the boss is the resident.

if they adopt the law in AGM, why not ?

Yeah I have tried to suggest to them to use these chair socks like foam pads you stick at the chair or table legs but they outright denied it is even them causing the noise . The management on my first complaint did told me it is indeed their unit causing the noise , as there is no one staying above them .

I even told them what noise at what time and they were speechless but still denied it In the end. Some people are just pure inconsiderate and don't give a damn about others. Before this new family moved in , there was a single guy staying with his gf above , with no noise at all . Then the nightmare began ...🤣

I tried ear plugs, blasting music, white noise. Nothing works. I believe it’s not only the noise, it’s also the vibration which makes it so unbearable.

Not so lucky for me actually, I really like this place and it’s a nice new project. Now forced to move out after just 1 month.

Btw the 1st property I bought was a condo. Same thing. In the end I called the police and even followed them to see what was happening. Drugs party. Haih. All youngsters. They moved out shortly after, but the new tenant also liked to party, called police so many times till the officer gave me personal number lol. Move out after one year of torture.

I understand everyone also pay to stay in condo, so they have the right to do what they want. And the noise can be developer’s fault for not doing proper sound proofing. But I really think if everyone can be more considerate, more thoughtful, then our society will be so much better......

If you got money and don't mind spending, rent the unit above them. Let them taste their own medicine

Sometimes it’s not the unit directly above you? It could be adjacent units as well

Doesn't matter if they deny. Just pass the chair socks and foam pads to them anyways. Request MO to pass to them or even put the stuff and clip it on their grill.

Just in case, go up 2 floors and see if the dragging chair can come from there. True story, I once faced 3 storey up can hear chair dragging. Our condo sound insulation is awful.

This is why I go developer launch to developer launch to lobby for sound insulation.

At the very least the developer should insulate the door frame, so when door close, won't hear the door slamming.

Our sound proofing quality is pathetic.

Also when they make noise, call the guard to notify them. Every time they make noise, get the guard to go up or call them to shut up.

this should be the benchmark standard.

I recall last time I visited a friend in a condo in Australia and have party there. The Aussie white neighbor below, call the guard to complain, and we had to stop short the party.

If overseas can do this, we should follow the proper SOP.

why suffer yourself to do this.

RM 1.5k per month rental you can do so many things with the money, but you have to spend this kind of money just to kacau the upstair neighbor.

And most landlord won't just rent for a few months. So you will be forced to sign 1 year lease.

That thing can actually cause structural damage. If not illegal it will be if someone uses it here.
