DiGi upbeat on Deep Green NowKUALA SELANGOR: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd believes its Deep Green Now programme will help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emission apart from creating awareness on the importance of conserving the mangrove ecosystems.
Chief executive officer Johan Dennelind said although it might not help much to save the world in reducing CO2 emission, it was at least making an effort.
“At the same time, we are engaging with society, especially with school children, to create awareness among them and also involve them with our programme,” he said after launching The Mangrove Treasures of Kuala Selangor yesterday.
A key component of DiGi’s climate change initiative, the six-month Mangrove Treasures is aimed at engaging young participants to raise awareness and help conserve the mangrove ecosystems in Kuala Selangor. DiGi will be working with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and local schools in this community-led initiative.
“It is time for us to act instead of waiting for others to do something about it.
During the three-year Deep Green Now programme, DiGi will be engaging the local communities to bring about greater understanding of environmental issues while activating and empowering them towards sustainable lifestyle options.
“I won’t reveal how much we are spending on this Mangrove Treasures programme but, for the whole Deep Green Now programme, we will spend about RM100mil,” Dennelind said, adding that six schools in Kuala Selangor would take part in Mangrove Treasures.
