Tesla Q3 2020 delivery number is out.

Matching consensus estimates.

Q4 will be interesting to see if they can get 180k to break the 500k number for the year. Growing 50% in a pandemic year will be awesome. Imagine if there was no pandemic and the economy is still chugging along.

180k is easy for tesla in Q4 when their shanghai factory is working full time + added new extra shift. The demand for their cars remain pretty high, no shortage of demand, just a matter of delivering the cars.

S&P global rating upgraded Tesla to BB- from B+. Two levels away from investment grade.

This is nothing material to the stock as it is more to the ability of Tesla to raise capital. Tesla has been very successful in raising capital thanks to the high market cap and good use of capital for growth. It will also help in reducing interest expenditure in case the company needs access to short term capital.

My earnings prediction.

1. Will meet consensus estimates
2. Automotive gross margin in the 24% range.
3. Net operating margin in the 7% range
4. Net income should be affected by one time expenses such as Elon's compensation
5. However there should still be positive free cash flow and a positive net income of $0.30 per share. Would love to be wrong here if Tesla could show surprise in energy business.

Tesla to recall 29,193 Model X and S in China.

Possible failure or crack to suspension if undergoing a large external shock.

Honda is joining FCA to pay Tesla for European emissions compliance. Still not sure how much this will be. For comparison, FCA is paying about $1 billion a year to Tesla. FCA sells about 1 mill vehicles in Europe annually. Honda is about one-tenth of that. So expect around $100 million of revenue to Tesla's top line.

I added 20 more shares on Monday when the stock dipped below 400. Cost basis now about USD65/share.

Tesla will be added to the S&P500 on 21 Dec 2020.

Tesla is now mainstream. Funds tracking and benchmarked to the index have to rebalance their portfolio. This will be huge. Almost $120 billion of shares have to bought by these funds by some estimates. That is more than a quarter of the current market cap.

It is so unprecedented that S&P is asking for feedback.

Another all-time high, at near average volume.

Seems like this run up will hold. Not sure how benchmarked funds are buying in. They may be buying off market already to avoid affecting the market price.

You better know what you're doing.

Time decay is real. "The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent".
