I want to by aircon for my girlfriend in philipinnes but I get totally confuse. Im from Canada. For be clear I will put price in USD.
In canada a windows 10 000 BTU AC can cost arround 300$.
She try to find a good one and seller propose 1 HP 1200 BTU AT same price...
I look on canadien website and all aircon is alway 5000 10000 12000 up to 18000 btu.
When I look on philipines aircon website, the top they get is 2.5 HP but almost alway 0.2 HP to 1 HP in rare case.
Base on google traduction, 1 HP is like 1200 BTU.... and base on online calculator, a 1200 BTU is not even able to heat up a doll house...
I really need advise, I don't want to be screw up.
Thanks you for your help.

1 HP for rooms (bedroom, study room, etc). 1.5 HP is for larger rooms (e.g Master bedroom) 2HP for living room (won't be super cold, but enough to cool it dowm)
Period. Anything more than that, it will be too expensive to use. Electricity in Asia is not cheap.

1 horsepower (hp) = 2,544.43 btu per hour (btu/h). Bear in mind that electricity prices in the Philippines are amongst the highest in Southeast Asia. Get a good brand for after sales & service for spare-parts.

I found this recommandation in internet: 100 up to 150 5,000 150 up to 250 6,000 250 up to 300 7,000 300 up to 350 8,000 if we extrapolate, that mean that 2500 BTU is foor for a room of only 50 up to 100 4,000 0 up to 50 3,000 lol seem to mean that the room seem to be in negative size to be ok with a 1HP AC... Where did I get it wrong?

Where did I get it wrong? I have been staying at various hotels in the Philippines during my trips there. Most of their rooms are either 1hp or 1.5hp only. Seldom do I come across more than that. Just use the hotel rooms size as a benchmark for your estimation how many horsepower you really need for your gf place.(Or you can consult their local installer). Good luck.

That explaine why most room take so long to cool down.. but hotel have good isolation, a philipine house have none... so it's make clear it nto enought. Most place sell 0.4HP air clim..
