Just wanted to let you all know that I am getting very, very good speed using Deluge. On average I get about 100kB/s if I am not browsing.

Started to use Ubuntu 7.04 a few days ago and the main purpose was to download torrent.

Downloaded 3 files amounting to 2GB+ since last night!!! I did switch it off last night and continued this morning.

I also noticed that browsing to my Linksys WAG54GV3 modem/router was much faster.

I haven't been using my Vista since the last 3-4 days and now fiddling around with Ubuntu 7.04.

My main usage would probably to torrent with Deluge (which works perfectly well for me). Burning DVDs would be another use and other minor things.

Could anyone give comments on whether I should just get rid of Vista and just put Ubuntu on my PC? I'm still really undecided...

Fellow ubuntu n00b here. Been trying ktorrent out for the past couple days and interested in trying deluge. If you're using Feisty like me here's a link to a good guide:

http://howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/ubuntu-f...ntu-feisty-fawn
*
I'm also a Ubuntu Feisty Fawn newbie here i.e. about 2 weeks. I am currently downloading Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 1.4 (about 2Gigs) and you can find it here. The screenshots look really excellent.

PS - I also use Ubuntu Feisty Fawn mainly for downloading torrents using Deluge as it seems to work the best for me even downloading from overseas IPs. However, I'm beginning to like it more and more.

Deluge seems to be working quite well for me and am able to get 70-100kB/s even though browsing is very slow.

Added on August 31, 2007, 6:27 pmI don't really change anything much in my settings and I can get about 40-50kB/s even with less than 20 seeds from international sites.

Suk,

I don't see anything wrong with your settings. It is probably just that the seeders have capped their upload speed or the file is quite rare. Have you tried downloading from a file with lots of seeders? Try to find any file which has about 1,000 seeders and download it for about half an hour. I also usually reboot my router when I notice that the DS SNR Margin gets worse.

VMworkstation really beat the purpose of having full speed torrent for free. Except if you use the *ehem* version...

But anyway thx to TC for introducing Ubuntu to me. Never fond of linux or distro before, but i was planning to format my pc, and thought to give it a try. Make dual boot for windows and Ubuntu. And let me tell you, i still havent boot my window yet.

Right now i am compiz fussion addict..and oh..Torrent work Great!!!
Thx again

Yeah!!! Me too!!! I booted into Windows 2-3 days later and for what reason I already forget! Sometimes when I'm browsing, I forget that I'm on Ubuntu Linux! biggrin.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

very hard to me not working deluge  cry.gif
ubuntu sucks  vmad.gif  tomorow i will reformat back Windows XP

Good luck to you then... biggrin.gif

I haven't been using Vista for a few days already (except at the office) and so far the only thing I miss in Vista is the media players. I seem to have problems viewing videos in Ubuntu but other than that, I sometimes forget that I am not using Windows.

PS - When I click on your picture to enlarge, it just shows a black screen.

Edit - There is a new version of deluge which just came out yesterday.

whats up? i can view all videos i download on the web... maybe except rmvb. but it used to work when i was using OpenSuSE so that means i havent tried hard enough. most of the you need the gstreamer good, bad and ugly plugins as well as maybe mplayer and VLC after that you can just choose what video you want in any of the players cause they all share the codecs like in windows.

I have downloaded all that you mentioned and some more but it seems that after a few seconds or when I fast forward, the video just freezes or breaks up. The same video has no problems playing in Windows Media Player. Any suggestions?

or Easy Ubuntu http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/

this program will help u install all the codec u need, better media player n other usefull stuff for ubuntu
*
I already downloaded automatix and if I'm not mistaken, it is now automatix2. I'll try the other one. Hope it solves the problem.

I prefer to use the command line interface if I have time otherwise I use Add/Remove or Synaptic Manager.

So far installations are okay except if there is a network problem.

Can anyone point me to a good guide on compiling firmware i.e. for Linksys WAG54G. Your assistance is very much appreciated.

I switched to Debian from Ubuntu and now I have problem running deluge. Installation was no problem just that when I select it, it seems to just hang and then closes.

Any ideas anyone?

PS - Linux newbie here...

I've emailed slurdge.org, providing them with a screenshot of the stuck installation problem because they requested for it on their website.
Within hours i got an email to test out another installer, and i am glad to say that it works.
Go to 'http://www.slurdge.org/deluge-on-windows' to download the newer alpha version for those who had that stuck installer problem.  smile.gif

Thanks for the info but I'm using Debian.

I did try installing it using

aptitude -f install deluge-torrent

and it worked first time but when I closed and tried to start it again, it hanged.

Deluge in Debian Linux crashed so many times that I switched to KTorrent. It is much more stable for me and maxes my connection if the seeds are good. I'm sticking with it until the ISP manages to throttle it.
