PETALING JAYA: The murder of a Jujitsu martial arts master at Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, Selangor, last Thursday could have resulted from a family feud.
The police are recording statements from family members, including the widow.
When contacted, Serdang district police chief Supt Abd Razak Elias said robbery had been ruled out as a motive.
The man, identified as T. Manogar, 42, was found dead by his wife in a room at his Jujitsu martial arts centre on the second floor of a three-storey shoplot in Jalan PJU 3/11 here on Thursday night. The centre doubled as a hair salon run by his wife. The couple also lived there with their nine-year-old son.
Manogar's mouth, hands and legs were bound with cloth. It is believed he was attacked by at least three men, who suffocated him.
The widow, aged 32, and her son have moved out but their whereabouts are unknown.
Shop owners nearby said the salon started operations about three months ago and many were unaware a Jujitsu centre was also operating there.
"We knew about the hair salon but were unaware of the martial arts centre as there were no signboards," said Teh Kim Chai, who runs a hardware shop.
Police believe the murder occurred between 5pm and 8pm. Manogar's wife had taken their son to visit a family member in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur. She discovered the body when she returned at 8.20pm.
There were signs of a struggle, suggesting Manogar had tried to fight off his assailants. The victim, who was also the manager of a company in Shah Alam and had run a money-lending business, was believed to have been hit several times as his face was bruised.
Initial investigations showed no weapon was used and he likely died from suffocation. A watch and some money were reported missing but robbery has been ruled out.
The body was sent to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem.
