Hi, wanna ask about the options for a small (5'x20') wet kitchen extension.

The contractor is recommending a normal roof tiles with zinc sheet under it.

But I'm looking for a lighter option, is those ACP (used for awning) suitable to use as a roof material? Or any other options that cost not too much than a normal roof tiles?

Reason for lighter roof is, my area soil is a bit soft, so wanna keep all the building materials as light as possible to avoid additional load that might cause settlement and cracks.

Thanks

Cracks and soil settlement will also happen with the use of combinations of light matetials.

You should consult a geotechnical engineer b4 starting work.

i see, how about those metal deck roofing? The contractor said this will have higher chances of leakage in the future if compare with the clay roof tiles. not sure if it's true? hmm.gif hmm.gif

ya we have the RC piling as well, so should be able to take all the loads.

just wanna see, if there are options to reduce on the building weight, then can also consider it.

this metal deck should be better than acp.., we just replaced a big section of our office roof with big rusted holes.. (owner paid for this kind metal deck..still tahan over 15years from new time)
your contractor may have a point..clay roof tiles sure can tahan long time.

Any idea what is the labour cost for replacing roof tiles. I was quoted RM5000 (labour only) to replace tiles for a 25x80 ft single storey house. It probably works out to about RM3.30 psf

Any idea if this is reasonable ?

Any idea of the rough cost to replace a double-story roof gutter? I was quoted RM 9500 to

a) Remove(metal) and install new Upvc gutter
B) Install 4" outlet pipe (x2 existing x2 new)

Note: House is on the end lot, so need to do for Front, Back and right Side

hi ! calling all roofing sifus out there, nowdays roofing contractors will recommend that you put a foil sheet underlay to help with heat reduction and acts as a second layer barrier to prevent leaks.

lets say one does a full roof change and added this foil sheet. what would be the best way to identify if there are any leaks and check whether the roof was installed well with no leaks?  rclxub.gif can't seem to identify the areas with leaks due to the foil covering.

thank you.

When it comes to installing a foil sheet underlay during a full roof change, it's indeed a common practice to improve insulation and leak prevention. However, identifying potential leaks or checking the quality of the installation can be a bit tricky with the foil covering.

To ensure your roof was installed correctly and without leaks, the best course of action is to contact a professional like Mr. Alex from Master Roof. He has the expertise and tools to conduct a thorough inspection. They can use specialized equipment such as infrared cameras to detect any moisture or leaks beneath the foil without disrupting the roofing material.

So, I'd highly recommend getting in touch with Mr. Alex at 018-3788226 or visiting his website https://master-roof.com/ for a professional evaluation of your roof. 🏠👷‍♂️ #RoofingExperts
