In Taichung, Taiwan now. Most terminals do not accept Wise or Bigpay. Only in one shop got Mastercard credit card accepted.

Just back from BKK last month, and there are no additional charge when spending at 7-11, McD and mostly food court area. Thumbs up for 7-11 regardless any amount can use wave via terminal, as I loved to buy vitamin C drink at 7-11. I only encountered 2 massage centers need to add another 2-5% if you plan to use card. However, they'll inform you when you said you wanna to use card. So no issue.

A little birdie told me that Malaysian card can now fully use contactless already. No need pin all the time anymore. They have fixed something that have been causing some merchant reject contactless service.

From what I've heard, Wise already requested approval from BNM for ApplePay, GooglePay, SamsungPay etc. Expected to go live in Q3 this year. Exciting time if this is true!

You won't get charged the 1.75% fee until you go over RM1,000 or RM5 + 1.75$ fee on your 3rd withdrawal onwards.
BUT if you don't have the currency of the country/foreign ATM you're visiting, you'll still get charged a conversion fee.

Ex. Let's assume you only have MYR and USD on your Wise card and visit Thailand, and it's your first monthly withdrawal.
Even if you take out the equivalent of only RM500 in THB, Wise still charges you a fee to convert your USD or MYR into THB.
On RM500, the fee is about 0.76%  or RM3.77.

The digital wise credit card is useful for my recent trip to Korea.
I use it to pay for hotel bills and able to top up MYR while still in Korea .
the instant freeze and unfreeze feature of the card is useful.
I use the digital card to pay for Aliexpress purchase also

They have their own separate numbers, expiry date, and 3 digit CVV code.
You can use the virtual cards online just like your physical card.

You can even delete each virtual card after using it only once.
And create new ones for each transaction if you're worried about fraud.

I went to Japan for a week recently with nothing but 2000 yen in cash, did everything else with Wise.

Because I'm in Tokyo area, every place I went that took cards took wise, but I did chip and PIN all transactions to be safe and smooth. Every single 7-11 seemed to have an ATM for me to withdraw cash from Wise card with minimal fee, and there's an 7-11 every 500m I felt. And I can reload my Suica on the spot on the same ATM.

I like this, I am too lazy to go to the money changer that have supposedly better rates. The petrol and parking cost won't even cover back the amount I am converting, and I don't need to worry about having leftover JPY and losing money for selling back at bad rates... I am converting exactly how much I need with 0 planning.

Wise is a big winner for me.

Hi all, I have a query, as I am planning to buy ANA flight ticket (first time buying foreign fly ticket), the prices are shown in YEN, should I get my WISE card and pay the flight ticket with WISE? Otherwise I have citibank credit card or normal RHB credit card to pay. Thank you in advance!

Just link the Wise card in AliPay, hardly need to use cash in China. Not having a need to use cash since years ago...

Yes you can. Sign up using Malaysian mobile number > you'll receive OTP > perform eKYC (identity verification) by uploading a photo of your passport and a selfie.

Another question. If i have Yuan inside my WISE, Alipay will know to deduct Yuan instead of RM?
Then it will deduct your CNY currency first. Until your CNY not enough or finishes, then it will deduct the remaining amount from your MYR balance.
If you have other currency balances in your Wise (other than CNY or MYR), then it will auto deduct whichever has lower fee first.

Alipay n Weixin Pay for foreigners is hit n miss due to restrictions on peer to peer transfer. Cash is better in China. Japan can get by with minimal cash.

Some places don't accept cash.
Most of the places do not accept foreign card. They prefer Unionpay only, not Visa/Mastercard/Amex.
Use roaming to bypass firewall.
You can use Maybank MAE App to scan their Alipay QR and pay.

Same scenario for peer to peer transfer with added 1% overseas charge.
You can but its better to have with you also another backup credit card.
Buy simcard from lazada/ shopee it bypass local firewall. Bought in China simcard will be severely restrictive. Maybank if use secure2u should be no problem if using lazada simcards.. Ambank cards will have problems as it sometime use otp.

Purchases on Agoda for flights/ hotels have to make sure no added charges using credit cards as i encounter a few months ago.

In China almost impossible to find moneychanger so make sure you change more than necessary.

Credit cards are difficult to use in China.

Easiest is buy international roaming with your telco.

Funny thing when i link my Wise Card into Alipay and the details of the card there say "TNG Visa"

Then i link my TNG Visa into Alipay later, the details shows "Wise card"
