haha ok wo.. 5G.. actually if the 5G cost that much such as S20+ vs S20 Ultra 5G.. about 1k.. take in the extra feature in S20 Ultra for 300? there is another 700 is for 5G.. i think can deduct it out.. same as 4k vs FHD display.. Sony can excluded the 4k display to reduce some cost.. too bad, Xperia 1 is like Premium flagship ady..

I think it very much depends on the free gifts when it launches. But although I used to own several flagship Sony phones in the past, I kind of skip Sony because of the following:

1. Used to overheat
2. Random reboot
3. Lack of support in Malaysia. Say after 2 years you want to change battery there's no proper support centers for the phone.

Also this current flagship only offers 90hz screen, lower capacity ram and battery. But camera, video recording and screen quality seem better than others. I believe the last flagship came with free wireless earphone worth close to 1k right? If this time round they come with such premium Sony ear piece, maybe worth buying if quality build is good.

What's your thought on what represents a good value to buy for this phone. What sort of freebies you think make this phone a good buy?

first issue no longer exist.. at least in Xperia 1.. Previous variants such as Z5P and following until XZ3.. indeed cause a lot of issues and people skipped them after have bad experience.. im one of it that from z5p and skipped the following next few generation of xperia..

item 2 and 3 yes.. of course there is a third party vendor/technician do know how to repair it, but the price tends to be at higher point.. if we compare the screen replacement between xperia, samsung and iphone.. iphone is the cheapest one..

Yeah last year when i purchase Xperia 1 also due to freebie of WH-1000XM3 which cost about RM1k+.. market online price is around 1.2k that time.. but now started to drop till 1k as XM4 coming soon..
Personally think that extended warranty is kind of attactive freebie, then probably give other sony products to let consumer experience the overall experience that they want to bring to consumers.. such as headset/noise cancelling wire/wireless.. 1 year warranty for a product cost RM5k.. a big nono to me.. even TV also have 2 years warranty or more..

Btw, the Xperia 1 II offer 256gb ROM, 8gb RAM and 4000mAh battery.. actually not consider big differences compare with device in markets.. even samsung s20 series offer 128gb ROM only..

Hmm, later versions of Sony phones still got random reboots? That sucks, iphones and huawei from p20 onwards hardly have reboot issues. I am surprise too when you say iphone screen replacement is the cheapest one. I thought iphone should be most expensive.

Most flagships like Oppo, oneplus even samsung has bigger battery and 12GB rams. I certainly don't mind the extended warranty if any. But at least in jb, there's almost no center for official phone repair. If got problem they will take your phone to don't know where to repair. I think they banking on the fact their products hardly breakdown.

Let's see what freebies they give. If useful stuff like premium noise cancelling ear piece plus other good stuff, I might consider going back to Sony since Samsung is a no no for me (bad experience with Note2 and non Snap Dragon) and Huawei now almost as good as dead without GMS. Either Sony or I am jumping to iphone, make that big painful switch. At least iphone guarantees 4 cycles of major software upgrades. Use for 3 years or more.

I thought the Xperia 1 at 4k with the free WM1000XM3 was a good buy, but stayed away due to the battery size. For me, minimum battery size for my Android phones is 4000mAh smile.gif

Oh, and the Xperia 1 II doesn't come with a 90hz refresh rate

"Sony skipped on a high refresh rate screen and chose to implement Motion Blur Reduction instead. It claims to match the benefits of a 90Hz display by analyzing what's on the screen and adjusting individual frames to reduces frame lag."

so far my Xperia 1 and previous Xperia do not have random reboots issue.. I guess its due to sim card detection issue?! Sony device will reboot after u unplug the sim card or reconnect Sim card..

iPhone screen replacement is the cheapest one.. resolution low, less model, bulk order on screen parts by repair shop.. many ppl willing to repair iphone cause 1 spare part use for few generations.. last time i replaced 1 rm300 for iphone 6 plus.. A+ screen..

12gb RAM is a hype where u dont ever need that.. but yeah consumer always feel bigger/more is better.. it's welcome feature.. I am willing to go for Sony last year due to no notch, no punch hole on display.. last year only few devices do not have those (asus rog 2 (hands-on and it's too big & heavy), xiaomi 9t pro (not fancy to sliding front cam, but recommended to my family members & friends), sony xperia 1/5..).. i used P20 before which i feel a bit distracting to me.. however, it is basically personal preference.. Samsung flagship actually quite attracting except exynos itself.. not much issue in daily performance, but battery life is not good based on my real friends experience (S20+ & S20 Ultra). i do have some screenshots from them.. Camera is too artificial/prefilter looks.. somehow all Youtubers love it so much.. (LOL to me).. The reason i said it is attractive due to samsung pay..

iPhone is a good buy actually.. Just because i am prefer widget in android.. i have spent a lot of apps in iOS actually back to iPhone 4 and 5 generation with iPad.. even Papago i also do purchased.. not sure whether now still valid in Apple Store.. And im used to dual sim in android (but now iPhone support eSIM too).. Probably i will go to iOS in future when they remove notch and add back fingerprint scanner.. face ID is a troll to me..

Im okay to pay for flagship price.. but also will consider on my usage pattern.. minimum 2 years for usage if possible.. made a switch from P20 to Xperia 1 due to front camera of P20 & video stabilisation triggered me the most.. Other than that, P20 rear camera and performance are satisfied.. however, now new huawei device without GMS will not in my option list.. =)

surprisingly 3300mAh battery size doesnt fail me to last 1 whole day with SOT about 6 hours.. sometime even more depend on environment.. but based on mixed usage (under daylight & indoor), adaptive brightness turned auto.. still giving me around 6 hours SOT.. if fully wifi and stay at home for movie, 7hours+ is achievable..

i also have concern before i made purchase.. But i do compared with the size of S10 (3400mAh), S10e (3100mAh), S10+ (4100mAh) as benchmarks, my colleagues all also getting around 5~6 hours SOT (S10+ get even more). By looking at real life comparison + considering Xperia 1 + XM3 headset (RM4299).. phone will be 3k and headset 1.3k.. haha.. buy..

Ya you are right. Mostly software tuned. Not sure ultimately the screen would be better than iphone or oppo/oneplus premium. Sony is supposed to be better in terms of sound and screen quality. But its mobile phone seems to not live up to its name.

I think my last sony is xperia 3 or something 3. That time I believe was the battery connection issue that's causing the random reboot.

Ya even though previous workplace gave me iphone, I never like it. No dropdown printscreen which I use a lot, no double sim then, hard to transfer files to laptop, quite rigid then in terms of the default apps you can use. I think then browser only can use safari. Though I find it good actually, then was the best in terms of reading on it. But not windows laptop friendly. I have ipad 3 or 4 though. iphone is expensive but at least the quality is there.

You wish! PS5 out even out yet, and Malaysia will be one of the last SEA places to get it. I am more hoping for a premium ear piece plus maybe another gift. A TV like what samsung did will not be too bad! Haha. Most likely a ear bud and a wireless charging pad.

Hahaha, for RM5k the gift has to be really enticing ma, hahaha. So far I think Samsung has the better pre-order gifts, although I don't think the TV can be counted since it's limited to early birds who braved the elements to queue overnight at selected malls biggrin.gif

It’s looking very likely the phone will be priced at minimum RM5k if and when it finally gets here.

The XM3 is a bit of an outdated free gift already though smile.gif

better than nothing.. probably they should do more options of free gifts.. like PS4 bundled, headset, or others.. i guess they are clearing stock for XM3.. haha.. all headsets from penang sony site.. last time got ppl curi inside earphone and come out for sale.. back to year 2016 or 2017, i bought 1 noise cancelling wired earphone (Printed not for sale) with RM50.. while RRP selling as rm 2xx..

recently 1 friend bought note 10 lite also got 1 galaxy bud+.. LOL initially my friend got wireless chargepad but note 10 lite is not supported wireless charging.. go back complain and exchange with bud+.. win win deal..

Yeah even the XM3 advertised worth RM1599 but can be bought at RM900 or so on Shopee or Lazada during sale period smile.gif We'll just have to wait and see for Malaysia launch.
