Lewis Hamilton & Fernando Alonso
QUOTE F1's press corps reacted sceptically in Sao Paulo when Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso insisted that their bitter relationship is now over. In fact, the McLaren duo - who have spent the bulk of their 2007 rivalry accusing one another of disloyalty and splitting into impenetrable corners of the garage - denied that they had ever exchanged a cross stare. "I think we have got on quite well all year, despite what the media says," Hamilton told reporters at Interlagos. "They always try to make a big gap between us and they haven't really succeeded. We just get on quite well." Alonso, sitting alongside Hamilton in the official press conference adjacent to the media centre, agreed that their relationship has always been sound while the press wrote 'many things that weren't true.' "We never had problems with each other. We are obviously fighting on the track but off the track we have had a very good relationship from day one and it's still the same," he added. Journalists who have shared the same paddocks with the pair all season reacted cynically to the front; The Guardian remarking that 'not many would take these expressions of fraternal respect for anything other than window dressing. The Scotsman newspaper described the FIA press conference, during which photographers captured the pair exchanging numerous smiles and laughs, as an 'old pals' act.' They 'put on an unsettling display of solidarity and sociability,' British journalist Ian Parkes wrote. The Telegraph called it a 'bizarre Brazilian love-in,' while the Times dismissed Alonso and Hamilton as 'smiling assassins' whose display of unity was 'barely credible.' On Spanish radio a bit later, Alonso at least returned to a more believable round of psychological warfare on the eve of his battle for the 2007 crown. "The pressure is more on Hamilton than on me. He will definitely have a few ghosts in his head when he thinks back to his wonderful opportunity of China," he said. ![]() Chili Sauce Alonso says Renault rumours 'nonsense' QUOTE Fernando Alonso in Brazil denied that he has now agreed a deal to return to the Renault team in 2008. "No, that's nonsense," he told Spanish radio from the scene of the 2007 championship finale outside Sao Paulo. "I have heard the rumours and there is nothing to them at all," Alonso added, even though his manager Luis Garcia Abad met with Renault boss Flavio Briatore in the Interlagos paddock on Thursday. Alonso's denial coincided with strong paddock speculation that he formally turned down an offer from Toyota to join the Japanese team for an unprecedented (US) $57m per season. With Ferrari also not an option, it is suggested that Alonso might simply attempt to heal the wounds of his McLaren tenure and honour his contract for next year. That speculation, however, would be contrary to rumours this week that Mercedes-Benz agreed in an executive board meeting that Alonso should not represent the German carmaker in 2008. This has been denied however by the team. The competition director for McLaren's carmaker partner, Norbert Haug, told the Spanish newspaper Marca: "Sometimes you have to bring things to an end, as we did with (Juan Pablo) Montoya." Triple world champion Niki Lauda advises the Woking-based outfit to sue Alonso before forcing him to honour his contract. "I would give him a court case for damage he has done to McLaren and Mercedes," the Austrian legend told the British broadcaster ITV. "Then (I would say) let's sit down, you have a contract my guy, and you drive," Lauda added. BBQ Sauce |

Button, Hamilton, Sato under investigation over tyres
Honda's Jenson Button, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Super Aguri's Takuma Sato are under investigation at Interlagos over an alleged breach of tyre regulations in Friday morning's opening practice session. All three drivers supposedly used two sets of wet-weather tyres, in contravention of Article 25.3 of the Formula One sporting regulations, which states: "No driver may use more than one set of wet and one set of extreme weather tyres during P1 and P2." Stewards are expected to look into the matter following second practice. It is not yet clear whether the drivers involved will face any penalty http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2007/10/6997.html |

Teams fined, drivers escape sanction over tyre breach
The Honda, McLaren and Super Aguri teams have each been fined 15,000 euro by Brazilian Grand Prix stewards for breaking wet-weather tyre rules during Friday's opening practice session. Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Takuma Sato all used two sets of wet-weather tyres - one more than is permitted under the Formula One sporting regulations. The drivers themselves were not penalised for the breach. The three teams will also have to surrender the extra set of tyres that was used in order to ensure they do not benefit from having access to an additional set of part worn, or scrubbed, tyres. source: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2007/10/7001.html lol... no penalty for the driver |
