I wanna share my one and only experience as well because I'm curious too... lol
I'm a person that sleeps soundly and wakes up only when it's at least 7 hours of sleep. But there was once at one night, I woke up suddenly to find out there's a tall floating white figure (looks like a man) that shines brightly (there's even light on the wall) looking at my sister (we sleep together in a room), it disappeared right after I blinked my eyes (I stared at it for a few secs already). My instinct told me it was my 'Gong Gong' (mother's father), but I'm not sure... because I have no memory about how he looked like. FYI, there's Guan Yin, Di Zhu Gong and my father's side ancestral tablet. Is it possible that my mother's side ancestor came to visit my sister or something?

Yes definitely. Though only on important dates like my mother's parents death day (she stopped going for these few years), the Hokkien's Bai Tian Gong during Chinese New Year (IDK if this counts because it's prayer to Tian Gong? hmm..) and something like that. One thing to note is that she usually buy things (fruits those etc) for the ceremony (not sure what they're called) and give them to my uncle to perform the ceremony(?).
