hi guys..just wanna ask..is G0 version for Q6600 still available in the market?? izzit all latest stock is G0?? planning to grab one Q6600..thank you notworthy.gif
*
Yup. Still available.

The latest stepping is still the G0 stepping (has "SLARC" written on the box/proc, to indicate G0)

Eh? I thought I was careful not to type wrongly.... sweat.gif Typo....

Anyway, I have almost finished my simple guide on overclocking the C2D/C2Q (see my sig)......

Going to add a E2160 and E8400 CPU as examples later on....

Any recommendation on how to improve it is welcomed.

Thx to bryanyeo87 for his feedback. thumbup.gif

My initial OC using kmarc guide:
user posted image

I am worried. The temp looks high@2.88Ghz only and the vdroop is also high@ (1.3375-1.248 = 0.08). Any comments?
*
Highest temp at 54'c? That's ok ma.....

Mine is even worse, 3.2Ghz at 1.400v (BIOS), at load, it is 1.312v...... sweat.gif Core temperature at load is about 60-62'C sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

QUOTE(Dickong @ Feb 6 2008, 06:17 AM)
I think for 2.88g at 1.3375v is on the high side, try lowering your voltage, i am at 3.2g n voltage at 1.325v consider not that good even compare with yours even worst.
*
What's your vcore in BIOS?

QUOTE(Dickong @ Feb 6 2008, 10:32 AM)
My vccore at bios is 1.284 n cpuz read the same when idle load at 1.248, again temp hovering around 59-65 when quad prime, i dont know why so high temp, anyway i have been using for more than 2 months at this setting, so far so good. Admire your temp at only 60-62 even higher vcore voltage setting than mine.
*
That's weird. With such a low vcore, your core temps shouldn't be that high.... hmm.gif
Furthermore, you're using the TR ultra 120 extreme, which is better than my xigmatek....

But then again, my rig is naked, so difficult to compare...

Hmmm.... I guess software readings of voltages is as inaccurate as ever....

Anyway, that's a nice OC for such a low vcore! thumbup.gif

hi..juz setup my rig and did some oc..but i hav problem to stabilize my q6600 at 3.60..even vcore set at 1.50v cannot stable..im using occt to test..or izit better using quad prime instead? thanks.btw my rig as in my sig..and my cpu VID is 1.2875
*
Did you get it stable at lower speed? Some Q6600 needs higher vcore to be stable at 3.5-3.6Ghz.

Don't forget that the P35-DS3 has quite a large vdroop.....

What's your core temperature at load BTW? hmm.gif

Reapplied my Q6600 with TX-2, previously MX-2, and in correct way of applying the thermal paste for quadcore. 438FSB x 8 , 3.5Ghz 1.424v 36c idle, 1.36v 51c full load with aircon. Good?
*
No way! That's EXTREMELY good. Are you sure you read the correct reading? hmm.gif (Me jealous.....)

Full load with prime95?

Here's my previous results using the Xigmatek:
3.2Ghz (400x8), 1.400v in bios, 1.312v full load with prime95 - CPU temp 60-62'c rclxub.gif

Mind telling us what is the CORRECT way of applying thermal paste for quad? hmm.gif

But then, that's blend test for Prime95. Small test is around 60c under aircon.
As for the way to apply, see this PDF.

I added two more dots to it.

I've replace the Xigmatek S1283 fan with a Panaflo FBA12G12U. That's a 120x120x38mm 114.7cfm fan.
*
I see....... I actually put 3 lines of thermal paste, each one on each exposed heatpipe. My thinking is that you want good contacts between the heatpipes and the IHS...... I guess your 2 dots does make the other 2 heatpipes contact better with the IHS..... but not as good as a line!!! whistling.gif

Is the panaflo less noisy? I mean, the Xigmatek is already a 100cfm fan ma.... hmm.gif

couldnt stay there long .. dont have sufficient cooling .. 77C during load  ohmy.gif

Get better cooling....

Anyway, something is wrong with your OC..... G0 stepping right?

You shouldn't need so high a voltage to OC to 3.0Ghz......

52C is full load temperature @ 3.6Ghz,
using gigabyte easy tune to check the temp,
coz the core temp doesnt work out in my vista ultimate 64bit...
*
Sad to say that mobo software monitoring is never the same as core temp. My easytune5 was off by about 10'c previously with my GA-P35-DS3.

Currently, my smartguardian for the DFI blood iron is off by 12'c from the highest core temp reading.... sweat.gif

The question is, which one to follow...... I follow the highest one though....

QUOTE([gs)
JackMin,Mar 2 2008, 04:49 AM]hi guys, im currently using the Asus Striker Formula 2 780i SLI mobo to try OC my Q6600, but im kinda stuck on 3.2ghz. Even on 3.2ghz, the pc sometime auto reboot itself. ive tried slowly increase the vcore , nb, cpu vtt, +1.2v HT, memory and etc but the problem stil persists so now ive lowered them down bcoz the northbridge seems to be overheating alot when its under load. (80+degree) i really dun understand how i can go 3.6ghz or even 3.4ghz as no matter how much volt i pump into it, just will auto reboot during window loading up screen.

On 3.2ghz, ive manage to run OCCT stable for 3hour so far, but dun know why when i tried orthos(small FFTs / priority 10) it sometime can few hour no problem and sometime can few minutes it will auto reboot. so does this mean my system not stable? a friend told me that my proc has a very low VID, so it suppose to be OC friendly? any advice on what i should be doing next? Could my 8800GTS SLI is causing the problem or my rams? thanks alot....
*
First thing, your NB temperature is too high!!! Get a 3rd party cooler for it. However, even with that, I think it will still be in the 70+ range, which is still high.

Your rams are still within it's limits, including your processor. What's your vcore?

Is your CPU PLL supposed to be that high? rclxub.gif

I think maybe it is your Northbridge strap. What did you set in BIOS? What is the ram multiplier/divider/ratio in BIOS for the Asus Striker?

And your southbridge is 1.5v? That very very high. You generally do not need to increase the SB voltage.

You can't just increase all the voltages. If you do not know what you're doing, you run the risk of damaging your rig.

You can read my guide on step-by-step overclocking for the Q6600, it is in my sig.... smile.gif

If I'm not mistaken, that number quite high for Q6600 @ 3.2GHz, isn't? Or that's the normal VCore? hmm.gif

Anyway, can someone elaborate me on how to calculate the VID + amount to be the total VCore? unsure.gif

I'm newbie in OCing and only going to try it out today. How should I start? Raise the FSB first or the VID first?
*
Mine also needs 1.400v BIOS for 3.2Ghz.

Calculate VID + vcore? What do you mean?

You can try the FSB first to see how high you can OC at stock.... smile.gif

Oh icic. I had gone through your overclocking guide a few times already and I think I'll go through another time today when I really start OCing my rig tonight laugh.gif

Erm... calculate the VCore when added certain amount of "extra" VID (sorry, forgot what it called sweat.gif)

You mean I raise the FSB till at a level where I failed to POST or load Windows? unsure.gif
*
Nope. Raise your FSB until you get errors in prime95 (while stressing your rig)...... However, my method of overclocking is in windows and not in BIOS..... only the final settings will be set in BIOS.... smile.gif

Ohh... got any application which could let me change the FSB in Windows? unsure.gif

My specification is as on my siggie. So, in another way you mean raise the FSB till gets error in Prime95. Then raise my VID Special Add if I wanted to go higher and then continue push my FSB, error, increase VID Special ADD... till I get my desired speed and stability? unsure.gif
*
Yup. That's one way to go about it. smile.gif

oopss.... my guide was based on gigabyte mobo with easytune5.

For my DFI blood iron, I used the app "SetFSB".... however you need to know your mobo's clock generator type. My blood iron is "CY28551LFXC"...... you should check yours...

Will put a note in my guide about other mobos....

Edit : But you better read the instructions carefully....

Yes, i have set the Vcore to 1.35v in bios.

According to your guid, the reading in CPUz for vcore should be lower than the actual voltage in bios vcore reading.
From my pic, my Vcore in Bios is 1.35v
My cpuz reading in idle is 1.352v  blink.gif
vdrop = -0.002?  rclxub.gif

during load my cpuz vcore is 1.336 - 1.328 (changes)
then my Vdrop should be changing from 0.014 to 0.022v

should i push my vcore furthre abit?
*
Have to remember that software monitoring of voltages are not that accurate.

Yeah, you can probably increase your vcore a bit more.... Q6600 G0 is warrantied until 1.5v but I don't dare go that high.... me chicken... whistling.gif

ha ha... i can see you are having the same GHz as mine. but your Vcore is higher than mine... I will try again..
I am suspecting the PSU. i saw the review for this motherboard, the bus speed can reach 500+MHz... sigh... look at mine is like.... shit..... shakehead.gif

by the way, i am using a CM450M real power. The efficiency is 75%. i saw the product range, after this series are the SLI already. So i was thinking this should be sufficient right since i am not in SLI mode.
*
Yeah, but load vcore both the same. tongue.gif My mobo bad vdroop.... sad.gif

If you don't have a power-hungry graphic card, then it should still be ok. Your PSU is true power one or not? 450w is cutting it a bit close, especially if you have lots of hardware on your rig.....

500+mhz bus speed is good but in general, the Q6600 has a CPU fsb wall of about 450-460mhz.....
