Speed fan shows surface core temp while coretemp shows tjunction temp which is different.
*
Are you sure about this? I've been wondering about speedfan's reading too. There are usually a few readings showing in speedfan. CPU temp (only know if I correlate this temp reading with other software), Core0 temp and core1 temp. The CPU temp is usually about 6'c higher than the core0 and core1.........

weird. my CPU temp show 38C while CPU#1 show 85C and CPU#2 86C lol. i think my CPU internal diode go haywire already. when full load, CPU#1 and CPU#2 only increase few Celsius only haha.

so many using quad, itchy to try one too. next week might try it with my friends built brows.gif

So far, while researching on inaccurate core temp readings on the E6x50 series, I came across some discussion on the Q6600 CPUs too. Apparently, the newer Q6600 with G0 stepping has a higher Tjunction of 100'c instead of 85'c. As such, you're supposed to add another 15'c to your core temperature reading.

The reason for this is because some 3rd party apps calculate core temp by using the Tjunction. So, if the Tjunction is different, so will the core temperature readings.

I'm not too sure about the Q6600's problem as I've been reading up on the E6x50 series.

Here's my thread. There are some links there..... problem still not resolved...

Are you using core temp? Either v0.94 or 0.95? Interested to know what the Tjunction is. Supposed to be 100'c.

Anyway, nice OC! thumbup.gif

@kvmcom
No way! You're using the large CPU heatsink!!! notworthy.gif What do you call that heatsink again? How much does it cost anyway?

No wonder your CPU is so cool!!!

I see you only put the sponge (the sponge came with the mobo right?) below the mobo. Is that safe? Any heat build-up?

Its cm gemini which quite had good reputation. While irenic has been using it to oc his quad core kaw2 b4.
*
OIC. That's the gemini 2. It looks real big. Mistaken it for the new HSF which was recently shown in a exhibition in Taiwan, I think....

Just got my Q6600 up and running, cooled by an Ultra 120 Extreme and a low cfm Delta fan. At 2.6Ghz full load, Core temp shows 84c/83c/78c/79c for the 4 cores while Easy Tune shows 61c hmm.gif
*
Oopss..... your's a B3 stepping....

What does core temp show for your tjunction?

The tjunction temp is 100c.
*
Weird. Then it's correct (B3 has a tjunction of 100'c). By right core temp should be indicating the correct temperature.

Have you tried Intel's TAT (thermal analysis tool)

It's supposed to be other apps that reads the temperature wrongly. See this : http://www.boogleoogle.co.uk/category/hardware/

You sure your HSF is seated properly? hmm.gif

We need a quad expert here!!!! nod.gif

Got myself a G0 earlier today, installed it already. Core Temp and Easy Tune now shows the same temp laugh.gif

Gonna do some overclocking now, see if it's any better than my B3 hmm.gif

**EDIT**

Scrap that, saw the temps wrongly. There's still a 10c difference between the two, it's just that the numbers are lower compared to B3 laugh.gif

At 3Ghz, core temp shows idle around 45c and full load around 55c hmm.gif
*
Great news!!! Make sure you OC kaw kaw till 4 Ghz!!! laugh.gif

So what happened to your B3?

Q6600 Update: Currently stable at 3.6Ghz with 1.625v in bios, temp hovering around 70c laugh.gif
At stock speed the E6850 has an edge in gaming but when overclocking comes into play I believe the difference is negligeable and barely noticeable. Check out my results, I'm using Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a low noise Thermaltake fan thumbup.gif
*
Is there a reason why you choose 70'c as the highest core temp?

I know the Q6600 has a better thermal profile but AFAIK, most people would recommend a max temp of 60'c for the C2D. hmm.gif

For me 70c is a number that I'm comfortable with running 24/7. Have done that with my previous processors as well. Running it at such high temp might reduce its lifespan but nowadays the processor will get obsolete first before dying laugh.gif
*
OIC. You mean that your previous C2D was also running at 70'c??

I'm already sweat.gif when my proc is running at 60'C!!! rclxub.gif

I guess I can push my proc further as previous E6x00 had a thermal specification of 62'c whereas the new E6x50 has a higher level at 71'c! rclxm9.gif

@ remysix

Wow! Nice temps for Quad.

What is the difference in temps comparing the Xigmatek to the GeminII? At idle and load?

I'll be getting my Q6600 (G0) by tomorrow, hopefully. rclxms.gif

Anybody running their Q6600 using a 500w PSU? I'm still using my aging 2-year Enermax Liberty 500w PSU....

Planning to OC the Q6600 to about 3.2-3.4 Ghz...... (the rest of my rig as in my sig)

My PSU will probably kaput soon with such load but it has a 5-year warranty.... laugh.gif

Yeah, I think so too.... anyway, will try it out as soon as I get my Q6600.....

Huhu.... then have to buy another PSU.... sad.gif

WELCOME TO THE CLUB KMARC...........

1.52v @ 3.6 ghz the best i can get is around 68oC with HR-01, but i have my casing cooling to aid so not a good reference for others
*
Thx thx.... finally can join QUAD Core club! rclxms.gif

Wah, you guys really set real high vcores!!!

Now stressing my quad at 1.400v (bios) @ 3.2Ghz (failed @ 3224mhz).... core temperature maximum at 63'c..... sweat.gif

My mobo has bad vdroop though..... at prime95 stressing all 4 cores, CPUz shows 1.312v only.... mad.gif

I don't think I dare go higher than that..... wink.gif

With stock cooler, Stressing Q6600 with stock cooler what temperature should I be seeing?

Still haven't get my mobo so just testing with another PC.

I stress with OCCT/Prime95 both reaching 70c+, just test less than 5 minutes. Normal temp is core1/2 50c and core3/4 45c.
*
Errr.... not that advisable to OC too much with stock coolers...... I've never tried with stock coolers so I don't know... smile.gif

QUOTE(remysix @ Jan 31 2008, 06:57 AM)
bro...what batch of G0 do u have there...for G0, 3.2Ghz is not that hard...and i think 1.4vcore is already too hi...but if u said the vcore drooped to 1.312v, u really have a serius vdroop there bro...1.400 - 1.312 = 0.088v...that's quite big...my DQ6 only drooped around 0.01 - 0.02v, so manageable la. and btw, core temp of 63, i think still ok since we are on air...and it's not the surface temp, which should be lower than 63c...
*
Hehe, dunno what batch as I straight away put it in my rig.....

Ya lor, the funny thing is, with my previous E6750 at 1.425v bios, CPUz showed 1.39v idle and 1.36v load.

Now, with my Q6600 at 1.400v, CPUz showed 1.36v idle and 1.312v load..... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif Dunno whether it is because of 4 cores that caused a large drop.... hmm.gif

P35-DS3 cannot compare with DQ6 la..... P35-DS3 cheap mobo only ma..... smile.gif

hehe...true also la...anyway, i noticed that when i raised my Vgmch, the vcore became more stable compared to not raising the Vgmch...well at least that's the observation i saw on my mobo.
*
Yeah, somebody did mention that you can try to increase the Vmch to reduce the Vdroop...... not confirmed though.... I tried on mine but no effect.....

Anyway, what's the general FSB wall for the Q6600?

I tried 7x457 (3.2Ghz) but hang on boot up..... lazy test for FSB wall.... whistling.gif

DS3 vdrop so serious ?? i tot my DFI is the only 1 plague with such problem. for the current setting shows 1.48 in bios, cpu z 1.488 ( dunno why the heck it is higher) and loading time 1.477.

well for 24/7 use, 1.45 v core is still ok i think, but mine only use like 1 ~2 hour daily only, so no worries to go higher abit

OC guide? try read vrforum, there is a very details one there.
*
Wow! That's nice. Only 0.011v drop at load! thumbup.gif

Aiyooo, wasted CPU Quad power! Come come, join the folding community! smile.gif

thinking of geting Q6600 , just asking your opinions ~~~ Q6600 Go stepping suitable to run OC 3.6Ghz 24/7 with zalman 9700 LED cooling ? hmmm with 1.45v can ?
*
Depends on your luck and how bad is your mobo's vdrop/vdroop...... and how high you want to limit your core temperature....

I've seen in some forums that the Q6600 can go that high on 1.45v....

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Jan 31 2008, 01:33 PM)
Honestly, I never try any OC before or know the proper ways and techniques. All I read just the sum of the theory by someone in Anandtech's forum. Doesn't really wish to screw things up for my first OC experience sweat.gif. Well, wouldn't ya mind showing me the direct link? unsure.gif
