Any recommendations on hotels in Tokyo & Osaka?
Osaka - preferably near the shinkansen & of course safe!
Tokyo - safe, decent and affordable.

I am looking at the APA chain hotels. Wanted to try capsule hotels but sometimes I might want to go back to the room to recuperate alone and i don't feel like staying in youth hostels/capsule hotels.

Please recommend! Thanks!

Tokyo - ginza (Sotetsu Fresa Inn Sanchome)

Hey all, which cards should i use SUICA or ICOCA?
I want a card that i can easily reload with Credit card instead of cash, cause I will be using the metro/subways a lot a lot!

I plan to bring some cash but if i can charge into my CC then i will. Scared not enough cash later. haha!
*
you can add suica into iPhone wallet, without requiring a physical card

but only reloadable with Mastercard or AMEX

by enabling express transit option, you can just flash your iphone on the reading terminal to go through the gate

If i dont want to add the card onto my phone?
*
you have to buy a card ... then use cash to reload in the designated machine (don't think there's reload via credit card option)

p/s: you can actually also reload the e-suica card on ur iPhone using cash via the newer machine (just place the phone accordingly on the "plate")

Depends on which card you buy and whether you require refund
Pasmo or suica are available for refunds in Tokyo airport, not sure about icoca

But physical cards can only reload via cash, credit reload will only work if you add the card into Apple wallet like the above post mentioned

If you go shopping in dept stores, you can op to get tax refund in cash

Else you can apply for Wise card, withdraw up to 30000 yen in 1 month without fees

I have some notes on my blog:

That’s the japan ATM fees, not from Wise. Wise will start Charging after 30000 yen
*
ya but that's still some fee to be paid for ATM withdrawal

just a heads up for her ... because no one told me about it previously

Hmmm, apart from the withdrawal from international ATM for Wise cards, nothing much right? And works like a debit card too right?

I don’t wanna lose my phone too but it would be more convenient to just reload into the card via CC instead of having multiple cash. Haha. I need to think about it more for sure.
*
use a crossbody lanyard if you're afraid to lose it

quite common fashion accessory in Tokyo too anyway

OKIE! Sounds good! if the exchange rate is better than I might as well apply for a WISE card then. smile.gif And if i need money I will just withdraw from atm right? Any ATM works?
*
so far i only withdraw from 7-11 since it's the most common out there

and you can start to buy Yen and keep in Wise account directly already if you think the exchange rate is good ....

Question about SUICA card, do i need to buy a card/serial number to add on to my Apple Wallet? Or I can actually do so before even departing/landing at Japan? I read somewhere online that I can get a SUICA immediately in my Apple Wallet already regardless of where I am right now.

Question on Wifi - do you all use Sim Card or rent a pocket wifi? I just realise that the Japan Sim card is quite expensive too.
Anyone tried this seller before? Any recommendations are welcome!

suica - no ... just "buy" from apple wallet directly by topping up 1000 yen

wifi - eSim (Ubigi)

The UBIGI in Japan, the speed is good? I just checked the rate. It’s pretty competitive and quite worth it as compared with Maxis roaming.

speed is okay for my usage ...

Is there any charge for withdrawal?
Plan to bring wise card and withdraw from ATM.

I read online some say 7-11/seven bank no fee, some say have. A bit confused.

Is it better for me to explore flights from KL instead of searching from Penang?

I don’t think there are any ex-PEN flights to either CTS or TYO.

You’ll probably have to transit at BKK, KUL or SIN.
*
Any recommendation for transit option? M
Thai Airways seems to have super long layover

from penang youre kinda out of luck since theres not much major airlines will stop by, but if you go back to same route of KLIA, you can take ANA's Blue Day sales that comes quite frequently.

they have free domestic flights to select from if you fly in internationally to KIX, HND or NRT. so if there is good time to fly to CTS its worth to check out
*
any recommended period for travel to Hokkaido?

Mid-late Dec, Jan or early March?
