You already booked the Shinkansen Ticket?  I dunno how fast is your walking pace and luggage size. If you count 20 minute from Keisei Train arrived Platfrom to JR Ueno Shinkansen Platfrom, then imposible.  because you need go up excalator, passing gate then walk underground passage / road surface. JR Ueno Station is Huge!! Similar to our KL Sentral + Nu Sentral Mall Size

But distant between Keisei Ueno to JR Ueno station just cross one street. My walking pace, 2 minute only.

definitely i haven't bought anything yet.

I'm also curious we can buy shinkansen tickets from Malaysia? hmm.gif Which website?

I always buy it only when i'm there.

so, 20 minutes not enough? sad.gif I always carry two luggages for skiing stuff

can buy shinkensen ticket online, book early got discount but usually 1 month in advance only they start allow reservation. i always book from https://www.eki-net.com/personal/top/index
if you already have a physical suica card, u can directly link that shinkansen reservation to your card ID, then just scan the gate masuk..no need ticket at all, very convenient. cancel ticket/change reservation also easy, all done thru the website and cost 0 yen.
*
where to buy suica card?

or can buy in Malaysia and they send here? laugh.gif

QUOTE(Okina @ Sep 21 2023, 02:44 PM)
Download the Smart-Ex app to buy tickets via your phone. You can also link the ticket to your IC card, so no need to get physical ticket from counter. Just tap IC card at ticket gate and a ticket will be issued. Just pick it up at the ticket gate when you pass through. You can also reschedule your departure time via the app.

If book at least 3 days in advance, the ticket price is discounted. Just take note that if you reschedule with less than 2 days (e.g. change time slot on the same day of departure), you have to top-up the difference between discount and non-discount price.

what is IC card?

Anyone familiar with Narita Airport Terminal 1?

At which floor of Terminal 1, do all buses/car disembark their passengers?

Floor 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Narita Airport ......almost can be my 4th Home.  biggrin.gif

All Bus & Taxi at 1F A.K.A Ground Floor of Terminal One. Train will be at B1F

one of the hotel said that the shuttle bus will drop off the passengers at the Fourth Floor of Terminal 1.

so, checking with you, can a bus really drop off passengers at the fourth floor?

from google street view, i saw there is an elevated road at the top floor of terminal 1.

Oh...4th floor will be Departure Level.  Hotel Shuttle consider as private, similar to Our KLIA / KLIA2, direct drop at upper level ( Departure)
I tot you go Narita by public transport bus, then will be 1st Floor

Thanks a lot for the confirmation notworthy.gif

How long it takes to clear immigration at Narita Airport to enter Japan?

How come some ppl said it takes more than an hour to clear immigration?

My experience at Haneda Airport was less than 30 minutes usually.

For now, only the Tōkaidō, San’yō, and Kyūshū Shinkansen routes are affected. That means you can still take advantage of the luggage rack on the Hokuriku, Jōetsu, Tohoku, Yamagata, Akita, and Hokkaido Shinkansen. Local trains and subways also do not need to be reserved.

https://tokyocheapo.com/travel/transport/ne...-luggage-rules/

just to confirm, is the above correct?

the luggage rules for shinkansen is only for the three routes above?

The rest not affected - I can use the shinkansen as usual with my oversized luggage.

Nop, JR EAST which Tohoku, Yamagata, Akita, and Hokkaido (Now Aomori - Hakodate part currently under JR EAST control)
Luggage over 250cm / 30kg will need to pay extra charges.
*
oh, i just checked my two luggages. I thought it's more than 160cm.

Both each individually are less than 161cm (length + width + height). Also, both each (when filled up) are less than 30kg.

Is it affected by the need to reserve the luggage compartment for JR East, even if it's between 161cm and 250cm?

It's been a while I've not entered Japan since pre-covid

May I know if there are any additional requirements (documents) to bring along to enter Japan?

1. Passport
2. If I remember I have to manually write on some immigration card given by the stewardess.

Anything new that I should be aware of?

To confirm, no more Covid-related requirement?

Very easy, just go to visit japan web and fill in all the details for immigration and customs then the website will give you a qr code for each. I just went through the customs 3 days ago and they dont even check the bags. Just scan your qr code at the machine, show it to the customs counter and they just let you go. Same with immigration, register your fingerprints and face at the machine, show your passport at the counter and they will chop your passport. Voila.
*
when did you generate the QR code?

was it several days before arrival? If like that, does the QR code remain the same all the time even if you generate it again?

or you must generate only when you reached the counter? I'm afraid i don't have internet connection when just arrived.

it's because of lawson or because of mount fuji in the background? hmm.gif

i just remember that driving down the road heading towards the overhead bridge is very scenic bcos of mount fuji. i think there are better spots along that road instead of lawson.

i'm deciding between staying overnight at Yamagata or Zao Onsen

On one hand, there seems to be more things to do at night in Yamagata with shopping malls and more restaurants

Zao Onsen seems a nice play to stay overnight in one of the ryokans but there seems to be limited restaurants and nothing much else to do at night.

Has anyone here stayed overnight at zao onsen? Is it worth it?

if you buy the shinkansen tickets online, where can you collect the tickets? I don't have a SUICA card. I don't have iPhone also.

do u still have to queue up at the JR office? Or is there a way to collect the tickets from the machine?

I'm trying to avoid queuing up at the JR office due to the expected long queue at either Narita Airport or Tokyo Station

Bro, rent car in Tokyo, the shop will ask to present both M'sia DL (physical card) & IDL or just the IDL only?
*
i've rented cars in japan multiple times. Not even once they asked for my Malaysian driving licence. They only asked for the IDL and they will photocopy it.

any chances of Tohoku shinkansen being fully booked?

i'm not sure whether to buy the tickets in advanced or not because i'm not sure how long i would need to queue at Narita Airport to enter Japan. So i cannot determine the time.

Maybe i'll buy it on the same day when I arrive. What are the chances that the shinkansen seats from Tokyo to Aomori being fully booked?

For those who bought JR pass online in Malaysia (let's say from Klook.com)

when you buy it, do you have to put down the date and fix the date already in the Paper Exchange Order?

Just as an example
Let's say i planned to activate on 18 January (7 days starting from 18 January).

But upon reaching there today on 13 January, i changed my mind and i want to activate my Paper Exchange Order for the JR pass starting from 17 January instead (7 days starting from 17 January).

I bought before many years ago but i cannot remember whether the date is indicated and fixed on the Paper Exchange order.

Does anyone remember or know about this?
