Is it wise to travel to Niseko from Tokyo using train?

KL to Tokyo (Flight)

Tokyo - Aomori - Hakodate - Niseko (train)

Or best to take a flight directly to Chitose from KL? And from Chitose to Niseko using train?

KL to Chitose (Flight)

Chitose - Niseko (Train)

Japan very strict on paper work. You can't rent any apartment in Japan with Tourist visa.
To rent a apartment in Japan you need working visa + employment letter + Open a Japan Bank account.
To apply Japan Bank account you need working visa + employment letter

Mid or March Condition: Heavy Snow
Otaru - Sapporo are heavy usage road, so road will be always in removed snow by those snow boulder truck. Safe to drive but need extra caution.
Niseko & Hakodate road condition will be very bad. Train will be 50/50 chances closed due to heavy snow.
No snow driving experience are not recommended.

End of March / Early April Condition: Snow
Otaru - Sapporo road condition will good but still in slippery condition. Drive with extra caution.

Niseko & Hakodate road condition will be very slippery. Both side of Road can see very thick snow wall. Snow Boulder truck cleaning snow ration not as much as Sapporo - Otaru, so snow accumulated in road will be alot and very slippery. JR Hokkaido train will be operation.
(No Snow driving experience are not recommended)

HI RegentCid

just want to get your advice

u mentioned before the high probabilities of train services being disrupted in February due to snow storm and thick snows in Hokkaido

how about Honshu island (areas like Hakuba, Zao Onsen, Yamagata, Sendai) in February?

Any bro or sis here knows if there’s any food around 530am around Toyama station? I just found Yoshinoya near the station

Jeez that blardy Alpine website crashed like mad once it opened just now, finally managed to get the tickets but the time is really early, hotel breakfast also not open yet
*
i woke up at 5.30am at Daiwa Roynet Hotel at Toyama a few years back

At 5.30am, I walked around looking for Oden in both Lawson (Lawson was still operating back then), Family Mart, and 7-11 just below the hotel. They (all of them) don't have Odens that early.

But they have sandwiches. And of coz plenty of cup noodles. But anyway, you can buy the cup noodles a few days earlier also.

I'm planning to travel to japan (north-eastern honshu) in February for skiing and basically to see snow.

these are the places that i know in the north eastern honshu side

Zao onsen (skiing, to see snow monster)
Aomori (to see snow monster)
Ginzan onsen (to take pictures)
Yuzawa (skiing)

any other places (north-eastern honshu) that I should visit for skiing and to see snow?

I've already been to Hakuba in the Japanese alps area during winter.

Is Sendai worth stopping by?

If you like Extreme then can challenge Yamadera Temple. Extreme physical challenge specially climbing the steep stair on thick snow + slippery.
Reward on top are speechless.
*
Thanks for the tip

How about Mg Haguro pagoda, does this require any challenge of going through any extreme hiking/climbing and thick snow to get to the pagoda?

Transportation to Haguro pagoda not as good as Yamadera. If you didn't self driving, you will waste alot time waiting bus plus winter daylight are limited.
Haguro pagoda step are more towards to endurance, not as challenge as Yamedera.
*
Thanks

anyway my preference is actually Hokkaido

but since you mentioned there is a risk of train delay due to thick snow in Hokkaido in february, are the possibilities the same in north eastern Honshu (Aomori, Yamagata, Sendai area and the connecting trains down to Tokyo)?

Aomori - Morioka - Sendai - Fukushima - Tokyo will not effected by snow because the main Tohoku line got spray water system clearing the snow. But Yamagata & Akita which is Mini Shinkansen, those Shinkansen are sharing normal track with local train will effected by snow thickness.

From Sendai to Yamagata by JR Senzan Line which is Yamadera temple located, will effect by snow thickness. 2023 so far no any distubtion, 2024 unknow  biggrin.gif

Thanks for the useful info!

how about the train tracks in Hokkaido from Sapporo to Niseko and from Sapporo to Asahikawa?

Do they have spray water system or are they commonly disrupted by thick snow in February?

I just came back from JP with my 3 year old. Except for airport limousine bus where you have all your luggage, train should still be your first option over bus lah.

have you tried skiing at Appi Kogen or any Tohoku area?

hmmm a trip to hakone and kamakura. Honestly, i find kamakura/enoshima to be boring. I stayed one night there before.

why not straight go to kawaguchiko?

I prefer Kawaguchiko, i stayed at Kawaguchiko for 3 nights before. One of the best towns to stay. I don't think a day trip is enough for Kawaguchiko.

Hi, I'm going to Hokkaido mid-Dec with wife & a 5yr kid.

Planned to rent a car from Sapporo > Hakodate > Otaru > Asahikawa > Chitose Airport.

Any recommendations for car rental company? I checked Toyota Rent A Car and it stated that only able to book within 3months.
*
i have rented through Toyota Rent a Car. It is a reliable company. Just wait until 3 months before.

between ueno station and tokyo station, which one is easier to make a transfer from Narita Express Train to the shinkansen? i have some luggages to drag.

which route is actually faster?

all i remember about Tokyo Station there are a lot of floors

all i remember about Ueno Station is that the Keisei-Ueno station (where Narita Express stops) is little walking distance from Ueno Station.

From Narita Airport, I prefer Keisei Airport Express A.K.A Mini Shinkansen to Keisei Ueno. From Keisei Ueno walk to JR Ueno Station.
*
i saw it's usually a 20-minute transfer time is given

is 20 minutes enough to walk from Keisei Ueno to Ueno?
