thanks!

so far ive narrowed down to Feb-March travel, not sure yet where for ski activities since Hakuba i heard is packed. Shiga Kogen another in list since near several other sites like Snow Monkey also.

onsen seems like targeting Nozawa Onsen. Got ski resort plus kamakura no sato there too, maybe its one shot can do all at there

how cheap is cheap haha. ive been bombed with accoms in onsen village that are costing like RM1k/night  sweat.gif

I stayed in Hodakaso Sanga-no-Yu (already closed down) back in April 2018 when i was visiting Takayama.

About RM700 for 2pax 1 night with breakfast and dinner

nice, western or japanese style rooms? worth the price?
*
Japanese-style room with futon

Yea, very worth it with RM700 for 2pax half-board. food wise, i don't think it differs much from other ryokans - they still give you the region specialties i.e. Hida Beef, Hoba Miso etc. Ryokan that i stayed before like in Yufuin, Hakone, Lake Kawaguchi, easily cost >RM1k for 2pax half-board

ryokan/onsen around this Okuhida region is typically cheaper because not many tourists (not sure about now). It's a bit far out from Takayama, and ppl probably only fit this into their itinerary if they are also going to Shin-Hotaka Ropeway

what do they mean by half-board btw? i saw this alot when browsing their reservation sites
*
half board = dinner + breakfast
full board = breakfast + lunch + dinner

so we get total refund inclusive of the 10% tax?
*
to make it clear - most retail prices are quoted after-tax (10%). the 5000yen threshold is value before tax.

so u need to buy 5500yen of taxed merchandise. At the counter, the cashier will do the adjustment and you just need to paid 5000yen.

for departmental stores etc, you need to paid full amount first, then goes to their designated counters to process tax refund.

Which airlines do u guys prefer fly to Japan? Is AA seat thinly cushioned?I cant sit longer that 3 hrs in AA seat. Japan Airways?
*
direct flight between KL-Tokyo actually kinda sucks because most are either midnight flights (reach early morning) or afternoon flight and reach around 10pm ish where you hopefully can rush thru immigration + luggage collection to catch the last bus or train.

only ANA and Malaysia Airlines got morning flights that reach Narita Airport in the evening.

Personally, i prefer ANA because you can pair it with their occasional promo of free domestic flight

Don’t quote me - this will be my first time skiing in Tokyo as well laugh.gif
I chose Hakuba this time around cos I heard it was tourist friendly - easier to get around, convenient food options and engrish ok 👌🏻
Will probably venture to other areas if this trip goes well.
I like JAL’s overnight flight, as you reach Tokyo early and have the whole day ahead of you - no problem trying to align with connecting domestic flights or buses to other areas if needed.
*
old liao cannot take those midnight flight barely sleeping then hit the street next morning lol

unless of course pay more and get business class

since we are talking about taxi and transportation. perhaps just want to ask a question for confirmation

should be easy to book or get a taxi in Arima Onsen? Saw from GO app there's few cars there la usually.

Need to get from Arima Onsen to Itami Airport to catch 2pm domestic flight to Narita Tokyo (then 5pm flight back to KL). Arima Onsen Osaka Liner only got 1 bus reaching Itami Airport at 12.45pm, cutting it quite close since it's advised to reach at least 1hr early for passengers with luggage check-in for connecting flights.

Got overnight at Arima Onsen? Ask the Ryokan arrange taxi for you with extra surcharge.
Infornt of Arima Onsen Station always go Taxi standby.
Go App are calling taxi app. But need to pay extra surcharge by calling taxi coming to your spot.
*
yea staying overnight. yea I'll ask the ryokan easier also. but preparing some alternatives just in case.

the ryokan I am staying probably slightly more away from the station. it's closer to the Mt Rokko ropeway haha. so best to get taxi to come to my ryokan/spot

Hi All,

Is there other cheaper alternative JR travel pass other than the JR Rail Pass that covers Osaka to Fukuoka?
Am planning to fly to Osaka but would like to visit Fukuoka for a few days.
Is it cheaper to use JR travel pass or just take the Shinkansen?

Planning to stop by multiple location along the way between Osaka and Fukuoka (Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima, Kitakyushu if possible).

The duration of my trip is between 10-14 days, and would be flying out from Osaka. Unfortunately flying out from different airport cost a lot more. sad.gif
*
https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/sanyo_sanin/ - Sanyo Sanin Pass (until Hakata, Fukuoka)

https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/ssnk/ - + Northern Kyushu (all the way until Nagasaki)

Only 7 days so u might need to plan your itinerary properly. For example, only activate the pass after visiting Kobe

*
yes

QUOTE(Icehart @ Oct 7 2024, 01:34 PM)
What if there's remaining balance? Can refund back similar to Octopus HK card?
*
just don't topup more than needed.

AFAIK there is no minimum topup on iPhone Suica. I once topup 30yen just to get the exact balance for my last train fare in Japan

Thanks for clarification,
I do not want to spend extra money just to select seat, in that case I'll just check in thru webside 2 days before departure then.
regards,
*
just do online check-in exactly 24 hours before your departure. then if u lucky, u can select the first row. First row seats are usually blocked until check-in

which weather forecast is accurate for Japan?

Specifically I'm looking to visit Ine + Amanohashidate during last week of Nov but wary of rain
*
usually 1-week out is quite accurate and about the same for every other website.

u can use https://www.jma.go.jp/bosai/map.html#5/34.5...orecast&lang=en for 1-week forecast

or AccuWeather for a bit longer than that

Airasia departure from CTS airport is 9:40 am, so need to be there by 6:40 am. Earlist train is 6 am, arriving at 6:28. What other alternatives available? What do most people do, stay overnight at the airport? Book a hotel nearby on the final night? Thank you
*
can take their Airport Liner Bus.

5am start service and take about 1hr++ to reach Chitose Airport. got at least 3-4 buses per hour

just go to the bus stop and line up. Not need pre-booking

can any sifu kindly explain how this kind of 1 hour layover work?

won't there be risk of delay or missed flight?!
*
always have risk for flight delays, but at least the airline is responsible for putting you to the next available flight in such cases. PROVIDED you book the connecting flights in the same itinerary.

maybe check MAS website to see whether the luggage is checked-through (just checked-in luggage at Penang, then it will auto all the way to Japan)

for me no harm having a bit longer layover if possible. can chill a bit at the PPL lounge etc.

Hi guys. I will be travelling to Hokkaido this September. Plan to self drive around there. Total passengers -5 (including myself as driver). Any tips and guide can provide? Many thanks in advance
*
depends on where u are going.

Central Hokkaido still ok to rely on public transport

Going Northern Hokkaido especially to Asahikawa, Furano, Biei is recommended to self-drive because public transport timing is less frequent

Hi all, just came back from a Tokyo trip few weeks back and planning for Osaka next year. So researched abit on flights and found an ANA flight from KL to Osaka.

However, there is a stop at Narita Airport and I have to self-transfer to Haneda airport (about 4 hour 50 minute self transfer)

So it'll be like this,
KL - 0800 depart > Narita - 1540 arrive (4 hour 50 min self transfer to Haneda) > Haneda - 2030 Depart > Osaka - 2150 arrive

Is it do-able? Or is it too stressful? I checked on transportations and it would roughly take 1 - 2 hours. Not taking into account immigration clearance, delays and such.

Would it be wise to find something else?
*
doable but stressful.

why not just take the 2pm ANA flight. reach Haneda around 10pm. stay at the airport hotel and fly to Osaka tomorrow morning.
