Btw, you are in JP now right? How is the tourist crowd?

Things going smooth in the places you visit?
*
Tourist are returning but Kyoto not too crowded yet. Now is the best time to enjoy without too many tourist.

The only place that is pretty crowded are Kiyozumi-Dera due to several school excursion.

Nara can skip as the population of deer have reduced significantly due to Covid. I counted less than 50 deers from train station to the center of the park. They bite u if u don't feed them fast enough. (when u are not facing them)

Hi guys, for a family trip (9 people), is it recommended to take the Airbnb whole apartment  or just stay hotel with separate rooms?  Airbnb is cheaper but I just researched that it's high likely a commit suicide unit?  It seems abit creepy but can anyone can share their experiences renting Airbnb? Prefer to have everyone in a unit together...  Btw..location is Osaka and Kyoto.

most hotel are haunted and more scary.

Japanese mostly (90%)won't commit suicide inside apartment or hotel room. They normally choose jump from train platform. As a guy in Japan more than 15 years, I encountered this matter more than 100 times, I even witness a guy jump off infront of my eye and instant shredded into pieces by train.

Everytime you heard a train suddenly emergency brake announcement, 70% you know someone just jump off from platform somewhere and whole train system will stall.
For those apartments that had casualties cases 99% are old folk. Japanese old folk house, you don't have 1 billion yen also can't stay. So, 90% Japanese old people are staying in their apartment until last breath.
*
Interact more with flight attendant when u fly and you will know how haunted the hotels are in Japan.

Sometimes the crew from 3-4 room will all come down and sit in the lobby till morning as they encounter "things" in their rooms.

For the past 30 years of my traveling, I have heard my fair share of haunted hotels stories and Taiwan (taipei) tops the list followed by Japan

oh, i'm not flying with AAX but 2330 arrival is not traveller friendly though

btw, to everyone else. for a normal meal at restaurant, 1500 should be enough, per meal? i have not been to the big island. last time i was in hokkaido, i remember like eat at ramen/tonkatsu shop with those self serve machine, usually 1000 yen got balance. post global inflation 1500 can tahan right?
*
Raman, beef rice (yoshinoya) and tendon, still have 600-800 yen range. Don't worry, ridiculous price increase for food only happen in Malaysia n Singapore.

next year still long time to go .. just wait for the price to go back to pre-covid ... AA not much difference after you add on luggage
*
Agree, AA only good for short trip within tropical country with just a carry on bag.

Once add check-in bag the price difference are too little to be of value. A lot of people do not realize if flight delay, baggage damage/missing, the compensation are very different between budget airlines and full airlines.

I will be in Tokyo next week, so far this is our plan. Any suggestions are most welcome since this is a really last minute plan.

16/12 Landed in Tokyo
17/12 - 20/12 Tokyo - (Mt Fuji tour, Yuzawa ski resort,...)
21/12 - 23/12 Kyoto & Osaka (Sightseeing)
24/12 - 26/12 Back in tokyo for Disneyland
*
Leave Osaka and Kyoto for next trip, you will not enjoy as it's too rush. I spend 1 week in Kyoto and did not cover all the places of interest.

I see, thanks for the insight. I  will be travelling late March to Early April. Is this consider peak period?

So, in this case, I can still reach the Mishima station first, buy the ticket, reserve the seat for the train coming in 30 minutes and  take my sweet time to walk to the platform?

Thanks again. Else I am farked....😅😅😅
*
Seat reservation can be done even if the train arriving in 5 mins if they still have seats available (which usually have). If not, just reserve the next train and relax at the station by strolling around or browse FB

And for laundry, I found some info on coin laundry but not much, might be handy to have some tips as I think I’ll need it since travelling with kid
*
I find that many hotels in Japan offers self laundry room complete with detergent and softener dispersing machine.

Helo guys

Is this doable or too many days in 1 place. Currently have 8 days in tokyo. too many? Also intend to catch sakura blossoms. Your input is much appreciated

27 mar Arrive Osaka
28-29 Jalan Jalan Osaka
30 Universal studio
31 transfer Kyoto
31-1 Kyoto (bamboo forest etc.)
2 Nara
3 Kyoto
4 Transfer to Kawaguchi
4-6 kawaguchi
6- transfer to tokyo
7-11 tokyo
12 disneyland
13 another day in tokyo
14 apr fly back malaysia
*
2 full days at Kawaguchi can be a bit overkill unless u like to just relax and do nothing, looking at scenery. I would swap one day from Kawaguchi to Kyoto but if u don't like temples/shrine then that extra day can put in Tokyo.

Hey bro, I found that most places/transport prefer cash rather than cards, are you able to advise if I should bring most cash or just go to ATMs to withdraw? Understand places like 7-11 and some other convenience store have ATM machines
*
That is true 3-4 years ago, after Covid in Tokyo, mostly have all adjusted to cashless payment.

Bus, subway takes Suica or mobile payment (japan phone or apple).

Restaurant, Shinkansen, limited express, hotel, supermarket, shopping mall all accept cards

Maybe a few small back lane restaurant or machine ordering food outlet like Sukiya etc, requires cash to insert into machine. Newer ones have machine equip to accept mobile payment, suica and credit card.

Almost all 7-11. Lawson or Family mart with ATM machine accepts international card for withdrawal (with fee)

I'm here in Tokyo for 2 weeks (today is day 8) I use only less than 8,000yen in cash to top up my Suica and pay for small back alley restaurant meal. The rest I pay with credit card. (my supermarket shopping, movie, restaurant, cafe, shinkansen, Tokyo wide pass, entry to various attractions)

I tweak my itinerary liao
23-26/27 osaka + universal studio
27-30/31 kyoto + nara
31- go tokyo
1-3 tokyo
4-6 kawaguchiko
6/7- 11- tokyo
11 balik

osaka and kyoto is it better to rent a bike? if not, take bus or train better? I find that train n bus are very convenient to use in Kyoto and can get u anywhere u want to go
Can advise me how to buy the metro passes for this itinerary? Been reading and reading tak faham the passes. Got so many.

Also, for subway pass in tokyo, got 24,48 and 72. Due to I got many days in tokyo, can i purchase 72 x 3 passes or the pass I can only purchase 1 kali? Can buy 3x 72 hours at one go (will come out 3 pass, use one by one)

Thanks!
*
The 72 hours Tokyo subway pass looks cheap = 500yen/day but is limited to subway line only (underground). Not usable on JR lines, and any local train that is not underground. In other words, very limited usage. ( u may find on certain days, places that u go all cannot take subway or need a lot of transfer if take subway and have direct faster JR line)

hi guys,

I bought the malindo air flight which will arrive at Narita airport at around 9pm. Do i still able to get the JR pass?

What would be the best option to travel to Tokyo from airport?

Suggestion is appreciated.
*
JR ticketing counter already closed by the time you clear immigration n custom. Use google map for your option of travel, it's very accurate and have train/bus information.
If u want convenience, the take NEX to Tokyo (50 mins)
cheapest will be Keisei line with a transfer (different station nearby) at Funabashi = 4 mins walk

There is also a limousine bus from airport to Ginza station (1300yen) n u can take taxi from there to your hotel.

I planned to visit Tokyo Disneyland on February 2023.
My son will be 12 on April 2023.
Do he considered as Junior (12-17) or child (4-11) on the day i visit?
Cause his hasn't reach his birthday yet.
*
He is considered as 12

Thanks Bro, that's good to know smile.gif

did you pickup a Tokyo subway pass (24/48/72 hours) or just normal PASMO/SUICA card?
*
I bought 72 hours subway pass and found out certain day, I only use 1 return trip (approx 300+ yen) and the rest I pay using Suica as it's JR line. There is one day which I have zero usage as the place I wanted to go utilize JR and local train (above ground), so wasted the subway pass.

Makes sense bro, thanks for sharing your experience! thumbup.gif

How’s your trip so far? Any mask rules and stuff? Also any noticeable spike in Chinese tourist since China already open up?
*
Mask required indoors almost everywhere and the further you are from the big cities, the more stringent.

I stayed at a small town Maebashi, breakfast in hotel must wear glove to take food and put in takeaway container. limited seating ( 5 tables ) as they encourage you to take back to your room to eat. Hand sanitizer at entrance , front desk, in room, in lift , on dining table and even beside vending machine in hotel lobby.

In Japan, there are very big PRC community that work or own business there. Those from China have not travel out yet.. maybe very small numbers dare to travel as the majority, their mindset about Covid are still in 2020.

Hi all, I'm thinking to go Tokyo in the month of February 2023.

Wonder will it be Abit too late to book the flight and hotels now?
*
It's never too late, just that you will pay more for flights and hotel compared to booking 3-4 months before. But if nearer to the date of travel in Feb, sometimes, if u are lucky, plane ticket can get good deal if there are many seats empty.

hi hi need some recommendation and info

for trip around 10 days (osaka & Tokyo + somewhere in between) for 2 user
what is the cheapest/recommended way for internet?
> buy sim locally when arrived (but this seen very expensive and google price is all over the place from rm50-rm300)
> buy sim from shopee (anyway bought this? can share experience?)
> rent wifi device (i think this is the most expensive way iinm)
as for Bullet train (aka Shinkansen rite?)
from google i need for buy/book it 3 days in advance, is this correct, can anyone confirm?
can this buy online or need to buy in person at station?
for travel which one is better if anything did it before,
Land at Osaka to Tokyo  or  Land at Tokyo to Osaka
*
I bought n use this last month in Tokyo (fast speed for the first 500mb everyday)
https://shopee.com.my/Japan-Unlimited-Data-...1566.4210053834

you can buy shinkansen ticket 10 mins before departure but if you are traveling during holidays and peak hour. Best to book in advance. December holiday, all reserved seats during the day are sold out 2 days before. only left with evening departure. You still can buy tickets but risk standing all the way.
