omg, big luggage is not allowed on shinkansen
*
QUOTE(windstruck @ Oct 11 2022, 11:20 AM)
I've read a lot on this too, if your luggage is within 28" you are still allowed to bring onto shinkansen.
Unless others say otherwise.
*
depends on your definition of whats large also

see official site rules. if im not mistaken its

1. oversized luggage >250cm tall is now barred
2. size of 160-250cm high allowed but need reservation booking
3. <160cm can be hand carried in and slot onto overhead rack

cause imo 250cm luggage is srzly big

Cos the video mentioned only fill in few hours before flight  sweat.gif
*
just click to this site and register, you can do it weeks before entry. i got mine blue already before my end of month trip

https://mysos.allm-team.net/fasttrack/signup/

you can do in app or website, no diff i suppose

QUOTE(windstruck @ Oct 11 2022, 01:40 PM)
Know up to buying and need exchange at JR customer service then reserving seats (online thru web). Not sure about entering just by showing the pass. sweat.gif
*
dont worry, it should be straightforward. just head to counter and tell them what you need. they will have english speaking staff ready in most stations

heck if you can buy tickets via our MRT/LRT ticket machine, you can do it in japan (they have english language option)

Based on my experience, I saw alot of this incident. JR Limited Express are sharing same platform as Local train. I encounter alot foreigners terus boarding the JR Limited Express with JR Rail Pass only  biggrin.gif . Inside the train kena diao by ticket conductor.
*
Yeah sadly the JR pass =/= ticket. Its like that time in taiwan eventho bought the HSR 3 day pass i still need to go counter to get stamps + actual ticket for the train staff to check before can enter the train

Please must fill up your mysos, (make sure your phone has connections, they will ask you connect the wifi if you don't)

once they check it, you will get a blue paper which u show to the custom officer,

whole process less than 10mins.

many ppl got jammed without mysos or using papers..
*
i heard of this too

but as for the mysos can we do screenshots or need to login actually? hmm.gif cause there is a QR code

yeah best to do both la, never bad to be more careful

QUOTE(minizian @ Oct 16 2022, 10:07 PM)
Among this two, which one would you recommend?

I will be around Tokyo area and I not sure if roamingman top tier 8GB would be more than enough or not, will be using it for work and also browsing through IG/Social media.

Wanted to try travel recommend but it seems like they have 7 days cut off from my date of departure doh.gif

Also i wrote about HIS shop in Bukit Bintang earlier, just visited that area and the shop no longer exists. No idea where are they nowadays.
*
i used roaming man in cambodia, and travel recommends in taiwan and japan years ago. so far the best part of TR is that i opted for unlimited so i dont need worry at all of running out of data

8GB is plenty IMO, i have a 40GB digi plan per month and i dont even break the final 10GB when i was using it daily commute and life

TR? i checked via whatsapp, they are now in KLCC SOHO. they used to be in KLIA so i can pick and go sad.gif

Tourist are returning but Kyoto not too crowded yet. Now is the best time to enjoy without too many tourist.

The only place that is pretty crowded are Kiyozumi-Dera due to several school excursion.

Nara can skip as the population of deer have reduced significantly due to Covid. I counted less than 50 deers from train station to the center of the park. They bite u if u don't feed them fast enough. (when u are not facing them)

niceee im flying by this week already

Beer at Izakaya increase from 350/400 to 450/530 Yen.  cry.gif
At Japan after work must go Izakaya with collogue and have some drink before going back home. Slightly increase price result ending up big amount of money.  mad.gif
*
right? and nama biru in izakayas are starting to be 550yen in upper end chains

nomihoudai never felt more relevant now. heck chuhai sours are also getting steeper. ranting.gif

hi thanks for the input

the next day after Nara will be heading to kyoto, and will be staying there for 2 nights
so should have enough time in kyoto I guess

how cold would tat time be? I was in Hokkaido few years back during dec also, n that's freezing....

any tips from Kansai Airport to hotel in shinshaibashi?
3 big luggage 1 hand carry 1 stroller 1 kid  bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif
*
take the airport express train from KIX that ends at Namba, closest you can get to Shinsaibashi afaik. otherwise its a transit of trains within the Osaka Metro/Subway line (Midosuji i think). bad news is airport express can get crowded as many uses it to fast transit to city

as for cold, japan cities down south in winter shouldnt be as terrible as hokkaido. i was in Osaka/Kyoto in Jan, coldest was 0C and avg 2-4C daily. if sun out longer, then itll be 6C max. just pray no strong winds, that one i suggest a hardshell windbreaker to pair with your warm clothing

thanks for the tips

so just one heat tech, one shirt one jacket/windbreaker will suffice I guess?

I believe my itinerary no need what ever train pass right? just buy the tickets as is as when
*
for 12C its sufficient, i was just wearing just tshirt and jeans at night 12-14C recently laugh.gif but thats prolly cause i was walking alot, so feeling stuffy if worn another layer

if your itinerary involves around travelling to other cities ASAP that easily cost >5000yen per trip, then only get JR pass. an example would be you from Osaka needed to travel to Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo etc within a day trip kind then only worth it. FYI a shinkansen to Nagoya around 6.5k yen, shinkansen to Kyoto around 3.5k yen. to tokyo afaik its 12k yen. so if return trip its 2x the price liao, which even a 7 day JR pass at 29k is already recouping the value

do note also JR pass cannot be used on non JR lines. so that Midosuji line i mentioned above? your JR Pass cannot go thru.

That i disagree tbh i chance upon this thread late and saw your itinerary few days ago and was gonna comment but saw your travel was october so i didnt.but now is like give the other guy kinda bad advice so i have to say something. You could have just got another pass thats cheaper for the itinerary you were planning and just fly to tokyo (check out JAL or ANA flight pass for foreigners. Osaka to Tokyo only 7700 yen 🙄) JR PASS is only worth it if you wanna take a lot of really far distance
*
nothing wrong with diff POV for passes but thats if you want to take flying instead of shinkansen

if OP has no issues with taking flights then by all means. do note taking flights means going thru longer checks and wait than a shinkansen. i assumed OP prioritise speed like all travellers than hassle of going thru airport security/immigration etc. shinkansen otoh just buy tix, hop in and settle down
