Hi, does anyone know the details of buying a used car from other country like Singapore or Thailand?

Let's say there's an ad of a car selling at say S$30,000 or thai dollar $100k.

What will be the final price when buying in Malaysia.

Any additional Tax rates? And what are the procedures?

Hopin' that someone who is experienced in these dealings can shed some light. Or any resource will be helpful. laugh.gif

You will need an AP..

you are entitled if you lived in the country for more than 1 year and own the car for 9 mnths or more. If not you would have to get those privilage to have multiple AP to sell you theirs... price... that is how the term AP king comes... fast/easy way to become rich.

u will still need to pay tax upon entering malaysia... based on ASEAN tarriffs .... was renewed as of march 2006*probably... 100 to 130% or more ...have to check...

tax based on cc of car and gov standard of evaluation based on market price... (no matter even if you got the car for free).

10% car value depreciation every year...

70% direct depreciation cut off for 6 year old car... 10% every year after

Hmm, ok ic.

If I have a friend who lives in that country for more than 1 year. I ask him to buy the car (at that country's currency e.g. original price) and put there for 9 months.

Then I ask him to bring into Malaysia (still ned to pay the tax right?), then transfer to my name.

Lol, boleh pakai like that? No ned AP loh? brows.gif

Added on July 23, 2007, 1:12 pmOh yeah, how bout the free tax zone in malaysia like Labuan and Langkawi right?

If say buy from Langkawi and bring into mainland, still ned tax right? Is it possible the car put there how many years can bring into mainland without tax? tongue.gif

its possible, the car would be under his name's possession until the term expires

similarly, classic car club malaysia could help you import the car of your dreams with less restriction, you can consider a muscle car and pay only 30% of overall tax, which is pretty cool. only applicable if you have 2 other cars in your posession and in your name. imagine you can pick up a cheap muscle car

alternatively, ive seen people buying cars from thailand and entering the vehicle with thai number plates and need to enter/exit thailand once in a while

I like TS expression on that statement :"Lol, boleh pakai like that? No ned AP loh? brows.gif"

If such lobang exist i would have been driving a fully modded A31 Cefiro from BKK alredi by now. But thanks to the Malaysian Govt now I cant.

So, yeah I am planning to go through the Langkawi way. Buy a car there, put there for 5 yrs and take it out. Of course you still need to pay taxes but apparently according to the market value of that car in Peninsular at that time....

Actually there is also another faster way to bring out your car from Langkawi permenantly without to wait 5 years (maybe also no need pay taxes but not sure), but from what i know you gotta be very friendly with the car dealer and also JPJ.....one hint: look at the majority plate numbers of 2nd hand bikes at Langkawi. Then you will understand.

From what i heard, after 1 year you can bring out your car from Langkawi however you still need to pay the tax, which will lower compare with a new car. The longer you bring it out the cheaper the tax structural.

Mr. Singh,

For example, Nissan March is <RM40K in Langkawi, if I bring back to Peninsular it will be still worth it. This due to the fact that a new Nissan March costs at least RM 105K in Peninsular. I save 50% on road tax and I save more than 50% of insurance fees annually as compared to having the vehicle in Peninsular.

Yes, I do know cars depreciate in value. Besides, what I am doing soon is also for the benefit of my family members who are staying there.

So, I hope you can understand the advantages from my standpoint.

Phonar,

Yes, I do agree with your explaination. But what I am refering here is using another viable loophole. rolleyes.gif

Alright, I'm more clear on things now. Seems like no matter how, if importing car from outside of Malaysia will and must need AP. (Eh, AP can apply one? I tot only those, ahem, datuks or same par level ppl can get). tongue.gif

Anyway, let's say we take the 'Langkawi' route, the import car still need to be bought by someone with AP in Langkawi right?
So after buy, put there n years, if wan bring over, pay the tax. Settle?

Hmmm, if so, I can also get some dealer in mainland who have AP to import the car right? (Though I doubt anyone will bother unless buy those expensive cars rolleyes.gif )

Why cant we just buy car like in ebay, lolz... tongue.gif

Added on July 24, 2007, 1:38 pmJust a little update on the issue.

How to calculate the price of your import car:Malsysia Customs example

In a nut shell (the values are for example only):

Car price in foreign currency * conversion = local car price
S$100,000 * 2.26 = RM 226,000

Customs price = local car price + freight + insurance
230,000 = 226,000 + 2,000 + 2000

Import duty = customs price * import duty rate
11,500 = 230,000 * 5%

Eksais duty = customs price * eksais duty rate
172,500 = 230,000 * 75%

Sales tax = (cutoms price + import duty + eksais duty) * sales tax rate
41,400 = 414000 * 10%

Total tax ned to pay to Customs = Import duty + eksais duty + sales tax
11,500 + 172,500 + 41,400 = 225,400

Walaoeh, the tax is like 100% of the car price... in total u gotta pay RM451,400 for the car~!? (Is something wrong with the calculation?) rclxub.gif
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So how much exactly is the Import Duty and Eksais Duty? Is it according to the NAP?

Prime minister office press release on NAP

(Download the CBU tax rates on lower left hand side of the page)

Right now I think is like this. Any corrections?
