Hi, does anyone know the details of buying a used car from other country like Singapore or Thailand?

Let's say there's an ad of a car selling at say S$30,000 or thai dollar $100k.

What will be the final price when buying in Malaysia.

Any additional Tax rates? And what are the procedures?

Hopin' that someone who is experienced in these dealings can shed some light. Or any resource will be helpful. laugh.gif

You will need an AP..

you are entitled if you lived in the country for more than 1 year and own the car for 9 mnths or more.
u will still need to pay tax upon entering malaysia... based on ASEAN tarriffs .... was renewed as of march 2006*probably... 100 to 130% or more ...have to check...

tax based on cc of car and gov standard of evaluation based on market price... (no matter even if you got the car fo free).

10% car value depreciation every year...

70% direct depreciation cut off for 6 year old car... 10% every year after
*
Hmm, ok ic.

If I have a friend who lives in that country for more than 1 year. I ask him to buy the car (at that country's currency e.g. original price) and put there for 9 months.

Then I ask him to bring into Malaysia (still ned to pay the tax right?), then transfer to my name.

Lol, boleh pakai like that? No ned AP loh? brows.gif

Alright, I'm more clear on things now. Seems like no matter how, if importing car from outside of Malaysia will and must need AP. (Eh, AP can apply one? I tot only those, ahem, datuks or same par level ppl can get). tongue.gif

Anyway, let's say we take the 'Langkawi' route, the import car still need to be bought by someone with AP in Langkawi right?
So after buy, put there n years, if wan bring over, pay the tax. Settle?

Hmmm, if so, I can also get some dealer in mainland who have AP to import the car right? (Though I doubt anyone will bother unless buy those expensive cars rolleyes.gif )

Why cant we just buy car like in ebay, lolz... tongue.gif

Added on July 24, 2007, 1:38 pmJust a little update on the issue.

How to calculate the price of your import car:Malsysia Customs example

In a nut shell (the values are for example only):

Car price in foreign currency * conversion = local car price
S$100,000 * 2.26 = RM 226,000

Customs price = local car price + freight + insurance
230,000 = 226,000 + 2,000 + 2000

Import duty = customs price * import duty rate
11,500 = 230,000 * 5%

Eksais duty = customs price * eksais duty rate
172,500 = 230,000 * 75%

Sales tax = (cutoms price + import duty + eksais duty) * sales tax rate
41,400 = 414000 * 10%

Total tax ned to pay to Customs = Import duty + eksais duty + sales tax
11,500 + 172,500 + 41,400 = 225,400

Walaoeh, the tax is like 100% of the car price... in total u gotta pay RM451,400 for the car~!? (Is something wrong with the calculation?) rclxub.gif
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So how much exactly is the Import Duty and Eksais Duty? Is it according to the NAP?

Prime minister office press release on NAP

(Download the CBU tax rates on lower left hand side of the page)

Right now I think is like this. Any corrections?
