Good explanation there.

I'd like to add, that even if you are only folding on the gpu, everything else in your pc is also drawing power. Even cpu usage will also increase a bit.

Example, my main gaming system is idling at 70w (based on my old notes using a measuring device).

So when folding, add my 1070's estimated 150w (assuming stock) + estimated 30w for the small cpu usage, and it'll be about 250w. Add the psu efficiency factor, its around 300w.

Hmm, saying that, i definitely need to measure the power consumption of all my systems now
*
That's right. Thanks for additional notes. thumbsup.gif

QUOTE(x800 @ Mar 23 2020, 10:03 PM)
My bad, the earlier estimations were incorrect. The 70w is inclusive of the GPU idle (which may be about 5-10w), and the increase in cpu usage does not draw as 30w of power. Nonetheless, the point was to also include the other components power consumption in the calculation.

Anyway, just did measurements using a smart plug. These are for GPU only folding, without any programs/games running.

1. My gaming pc 4790k+gtx1070 at stock does uses 70w on idle. On GPU folding load, it jumps to 220w, for 650kppd (2954ppd/w). Lowering the gpu powerlimit to 50% with +100core oc gets the power consumption down to 180w, for 600kppd (3333ppd/w).
[attachmentid=10455568]

3. My wife's pc 2500k+gtx1060 (running fixed ~1750mhz@0.8v) uses 150w, for 400kppd (2666ppd/w)
[attachmentid=10455569]

4. My 24/7 server g4560+RX460 (all at stock, i dunno how to optimize AMD cards) uses 110w, for 125kppd (1136ppd/w)
[attachmentid=10455570]

(These data are using the current WUs assigned to me, different WUs might give different ppd.)

Hmm, I might as well stop folding on my 24/7 server, or swap the gpu since its the most inefficient.

Edit: added screenshots

A very good sharing on green folding, with practical data and figures, well done. thumbup.gif

finally, got a hold of CPU-based WU. and it's 14328, one of those that relate to COVID-19.

current TPF is about 27 seconds. which is damn fast. gotta say, Ryzen 3rd gen, the power usage is much lower than i'm expecting. (about 90 watts) absolutely slaying them WU.

but PPD wise, it's lesser than what my GPU (a RX 580) can generate.

so, from my self-monitoring thus far:
CPU folding, average PPD at 110k.
GPU folding, average PPD at 430k.
*
Is that a 8C/16T Ryzen 3000 series CPU? TPF = 27s is very fast.
Even RX 580 have 430k PPD, AMD cards are back to folding league. thumbup.gif

The COVID-19 Projects list is updated, quite a number of them, but still frequently ran out of work unit. sweat.gif

Not sure if anyone here running Rosetta@home or not.

I'm new to folding.

I normally run my PC 24/7. Set folding when idle and left overnight, next day saw there wasn't any folding done. If I enable folding while I'm working, it started just fine.
*
I'm not sure how was the client interpret "idle", you might want to leave it at "while I'm working" to keep it running. We usually open advanced control interface for more control.

Hi guys! I've just read about Folding@Home and found that LYN has a group. I just started yesterday as Die_Corona19. How can I tell if my CPU is working fast enough. I noticed some of you was talking about PPD?

My GPU is now working on a job running at Estimated PPD: 1,278,341

No WU for my CPU at the moment.
*
Welcome to the family. Make sure you get a passkey if you are interested on the bonus point. thumbsup.gif
What CPU do you have there? A 1.2M PPD GPU, is that a RTX 2070? brows.gif

Coming out of folding retirement for this one. Last fold was on PS3 & PC (HD 2900 XT GPU).

My Ryzen 5 2600X & Vega 56 are cooking at medium folding power. Had to set to light.

Welcome back, good spec there, a 700k PPD card, fold strong. thumbsup.gif

A good power consumption reference for people who owned a GTX 1060 6GB. thumbsup.gif

Yes I did get a passkey and assigned to 2999 team.

My CPU is i7-9700K and GPU is Nvidia RTX 2070 Super. Just got it new a few months ago.

This is cool. At least now with me working from home, I can leave unused resources throughout the day to help with Folding.  biggrin.gif
*
Definitely a great spec for folding. I believe the work unit outage still on going. Do share the i7-9700K PPD when you got a work unit for it. thumbsup.gif

I got a few WU since yesterday but it seems to be completed in a very short time of around 50 minutes. Didn't have a chance to see the PPD for CPU. For GPU it takes less than 2 hours to complete so I have some time to check. It's quietly running in the background so sometimes I don't know it is running WU until I hear my fan running a bit louder.

QUOTE(muffdiver @ Mar 25 2020, 04:39 PM)
My CPU just received another WU. The PPD is 103,287
*
A very good PPD for CPU. A few more work units, then you will be qualified for bonus point. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(keretapir @ Mar 25 2020, 04:56 PM)
I recall last time, there's another piece of software called FahMon displays PPD data better.
Tried to install it on the Win10 PC of mine, doesn't work.
Tried Compatibility Mode, also doesn't work.

Have you any similar software? or you got FahMon to work on Win10?
*
I no longer use FahMon, just rely on the FAHControl for PPD figure.

Glad to hear from you bro kucing, currently there is overwhelming response from worldwide, lead to folding server busy and frequently out of work unit. I think we have minimum control on what kind of work unit that we can get, since the folding assignment server are the one who decides which machine to get assigment of work unit. For now, what we can do is set folding preference to "any disease". COVID-19 projects are high priority project for now. When you get assigned a work unit, there is good chance it is from the COVID-19 projects. You may refer to the first post for COVID-19 projects range.

And I noticed your output is quite good, get a passkey in order to qualify for bonus point, you will see massive increase in terms of PPD. icon_rolleyes.gif

Exactly. Ryzen 3rd gen is very efficient. But my Ryzen 3000 has to be limited to 50% usage only for the Folding as if I let it fold at full load, my PC will automatically reboot itself. Not sure why. I also notice GPU especially those RTX 20 series has way much higher (more than 1 million) PPD compared to CPU. Maybe someone with Ryzen 3990X can try let us know what is the PPD with 64 cores.
*
I would like to know the Ryzen 3990X PPD as well. brows.gif

But back to your rig, is it instantly reboot once the CPU is running at 100% load? Any overclocking/boost performed? Manage to check CPU temperature? What are the other hardware especially graphic card and power supply? hmm.gif

For now: hmm.gif
1.) Just make sure every information entered is correct, included case sensitive, a valid passkey that bind to the exact username from Folding@home email.
2.) Make sure folding results are sent before the corresponding work unit's Preferred Deadline in order to receive bonus point.
3.) Probably fold 10 work units with your passkey, and see whether the 11th work unit and onwards will receive bonus point or not.

Hmm anyone have issues with completion of WU not being recorded by the server?

I got 2 WUs completed today but still havent show up in the FAH completed WU database, and its already 8am GMT (at time of writing this)

My hfm.net screenie (an alternative to fahmon), says it was completed at 4am+ and 6am+, and I already verified in the log that it was accepted:
