For normal daily usage, it is not easy to get a CPU at its full load like what you get in Orthos stress tests. This means if you get 70C in Orthos, normal daily usage would probably get you 60C+ maximum.

70C is not a good number but it doesn't burn your CPU (operating temp limit is higher than that). Besides, it should auto-shutdown if it gets too hot.

For my case, I had the IFX-14 and my full load could go up to 63C so to answer your question, yes, below 70C is not much of an issue but if you're worried, get a better cooler.

some noob questions here, anyone recommended vcore for e2140? i running 3.1ghz on 1.5vcore using wc... is it dangerous? or ok? 1st time oc intel proc... lol
*
I manage to get my E2140 to 3.2 @ 1.38125V only so perhaps you want to try lowering your Vcore? Just drop 1-2 notch at a time to see if it is still stable and by doing so, you can optimize the Vcore (don't generate unnecessary heat) smile.gif

Every chip is different but no harm giving a try.

Bro, what's ur full system spec including the procs stepping in running those excellent overclocks  thumbup.gif
*
E2140 M0 & Gigabyte DS3L
Previously I was on Hynix FP-Y5 and the moment I reach 426-427, it has problems going further. I then changed to Ballistix and manage to get 435 stable (8-4-4-4). Anything over that is bootable into Windows but failed Orthos so I'll have to spend time tweaking it further (someday) smile.gif

sparrowed, you'll be fine with that setup. You can get DDR2-667, it'll still work. In terms of overclocking, what matters is the chips on the RAM, not the PR rating or brand.

8x375 = 3Ghz so all you need is a RAM which is capable of doing 375Mhz. As I've mentioned, you don't go by the rating but the chipset. To make it easier, just buy a Kingston Value RAM DDR2-667 with Hynix chipset. That would assure you to get 1:1 @ 3Ghz.

I think it's better to change your board than the CPU for now.

You should get a board which allows you to control voltages and that helps a lot smile.gif There are lots of IP35-E for sale in Garage Sales so you might want to consider that.

P31 is only a tad cheaper than P35 so why not get the better board with RM30 extra? biggrin.gif

sparrowed, are you sure the difference is only about the LAN? smile.gif Did you miss out on the chipset on both the boards?

Added on January 11, 2008, 5:19 pmMy OC-guru kucingfight also sells CPU. Perhaps you guys can get some from him smile.gif

E2140 retails are already very cheap and it's basically a stripped down version of C2D's. My suggestion is to get a P35 chipset board (Abit or Gigabyte is up to you) and don't save that RM30 then regret later smile.gif

Is there any long term effects if u overclock it too high??

I've overclocked everything starting from a 486DX4-100 and some are used for more than a year but they never fail until the day I sold them off/upgraded. Most importantly is how you manage the heat issue.

Not to mention most people would upgrade their hardwares in 1-2 years time normally. For enthusiasts, it might be a weekly or monthly upgrade laugh.gif

He's an expert I have to say. I intended to build an AMD rig until he told me Intel overclocks better these days so here I am in the Intel camp (haven't been one since my Celeron 300A days).

Actually the GeminII is a good cooler. The wrong move should be on the IFX-14 instead laugh.gif
