can you please take a look at your display properties and see who manufactured your LCD and what model is it? you can check it by going into device manager-->monitors-->properties-->details-->then select hardware ids from the drop down menu. i ordered the 1440x900 one too, im not sure which manufacturer made my LCD because i havent received mine. still waiting. will post once i got it.
oh my! from the reviews i read, the build quality seems to be good. coating fallen off is outrageous! call their support and bom them!

just out of curiosity, why do u have both 1420 and 1520??  blush.gif
*
urg~ the coating/painting fallen off is not covered as cosmetic even though CC. not satisfied I think within 14days you may request refund. wat you can get if bom them?

hao, what you're trying to describe is like a MAC whereby a serial number (in this case will be the product key) has been programmed hardware's PROM.
*
QUOTE(kingmax @ Jul 29 2007, 08:27 PM)
I never heard of this problem before.Mostly is because of the program you install.Did you face any problem when you firstly install window xp.Did you try uninstall NOD32 and spybot ? Try to uninstall your NOD32 frist.
First time I heard that  sweat.gif .Actually most of the problem maybe cause by the driver it self.
Actually Dell's oem vista key is bound with the hardware.Still remember how Vista is crack ? MS vista implement something like David83 said MAC implemented onto the hardware.
But on your case , did you try using other Vista business dvd ?? maybe you are having problem with your college Vista dvd.
*
wrong. computer manufacturer never programmed the product key into hardware PROM. Dell OEM OS is only verify the system BIOS before isntall. if detected as non-dell machine then mostly deny to install. Yes, at this moment 1520 is designed only for vista because no official xp driver. once xp drivers release then you can said is also designed for xp too. Yes, you may got third party drivers work but dell are not 100% guarantee works, BSOD or any software problem, bear ur own risk. Call Dell Techincal Support also useless. In this case, install non-dell vista get BSOD mostly I can said hardware no problem, is only either software/os/drivers problem. any other oem vista might causing this too as once of possibility, the best is try to install from full retail vista dvd, got problem still can call directly to microsoft. if not, better stick back to original dell vista.

*
@zuying1985
if after the installation, system keep restarting, blue screen. if error probability is
STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE then try this:

1. go to BIOS
2. under Onboard Devices
3. enter on SATA Operation.
4. from defaulty selection which is AHCI change to ATA
5. save/exit

I called Dell asking about downgrading to XP, they said there are some drivers which are not there yet. It will take around 2 months time before they make this available

How do we know when there is a new or updated driver version from Dell?

Added on August 10, 2007, 2:05 pmJust installed XP, and the Driver CD can't seem to find most of the driver like Bluetooth, Video, Sound etc

Anyone managed to get all these installed?

always check from dell website: http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloa...=WLH&hidlang=en

Lol.... I guess they think that people don't use bluetooth when there's wifi. OR..... they're giving FREE Bluetooth dongle? hahahaaha okay sorry I just can't help but laugh at this silly mistake of theirs.
*
no need to laugh coz this is not mistake. Inspiron 1520 are designed only for vista. Dell did not said that 1520 fully support winxp. blush.gif just accept the fact. you want to install winxp then you find own third party driver or write your self or which ever you capable.

tslim2531, your LCD problem looks serious. Send those pictures to Dell Tech Support and ask them if it's normal.
*
from the pictures, in my opinion, leakage is not tat too serious. the 1st 2 pictures show seem like is not LCD problem. its might be video card or driver issue. If you suspect that is hardware failure, then any error code/msg from Dell 32bits Diagnostic test?

It comes only with GDDR2. That's a typo or misleading clause.

Quality is definitely better than Intel GMA X1300.

it's Intel GMA X3100

do you have a Dell remote control? infrared port in 1520 only work for Dell remote control, not for data transfer.
you won't see the driver/item in device manager but work for dell remote control.

1 more question, i heard from my friend that his acer has a hidden partition in it, that partition is to recover vista, when startup he press alt + F10 then the laptop will automatically format and install vista plus the drivers. is there such thing?
is there such thing in dell laptop as well?

and 1 more thing i notice, there's some hidden partition, i wonder what are those partition for?

for dell only need to press F8 then we can activate the Dell PC Restore that you can see from D: RECOVERY
from the picture, 102MB is Dell Diagnostic. 2.50GB will be Dell MediaDirect.

I just check again the device manager on the system with fresh manufacture vista. confirm there is no infrared item/driver. i did try to send file via infrared, no response. Did you have any proof/manual show that the infrared able to transfer files? what kind of data you can send? are you sure last time send file via infrared or bluetooth?

ok, i found out that it only receive data from other device to 1520. Same like when u r using the remote control, it receive data from remote control when u press on it...
*
Yes, it's one way comm. so it can receive signal from remote control when you press on it.
do mind to share, what is the "other device" you tested to send data to 1520? computer, PDA, hp?

Call the CS or TS to clarify with their warranty policy on LCD dead pixel.
*
the policy for the industry standard is >5 dead pixels or 2 joints pixels are entitle to claims for standard warranty

QUOTE(David83 @ Sep 23 2007, 09:16 AM)
There's software to do so ... if it's too obvious, it can be seen on the LCD itself depends on how big and many of the dead pixel(s).
*
it's easiest way is run the hardware test to clarify it and connect external monitor to compare if available.

connect a external monitor just to narrow down the issue, whether is really a LCD faulty or not.
we may refer about deal pixels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_pixel

Any way to test it in more details?

Well, I'm probably bringing it to the helpdesk, 'cause I can't imagine of any other way to test it...
The helpdesk told me to just bring the laptop.
*
from the screen shot, we can see that there is something about read error. I will suggest insert the the driver cd then boot from it to run custom test on optical drive, simple and easy to verify whether is hardware/software fault.

Well, at the time I tried to insert DVD and check the content, the laptop couldn't read it. Same with another DVD.
Damn, that's one faulty drive indeed... Gonna get my docs and handle it to the service.
*
if you only tried in windows, I suggest you try first to boot from driver CD if you haven't do that yet. izzit too early you make the conclusion? sometimes the hardware is working but just when boot to windows then only not function, else then will be hardware fault

hey guys, i use cpu-z to check my hardware & i found out that my ram is on 333Mhz instead of 667Mhz that dell offered me. So, is this dell fault or my cpu-z error? how i can b sure of that?
*
cpu-z no error, and also not a dell fault.
google it to study.
