you want to change motherboard as well by yourself? sweat.gif

urmm , is that the only solution ? seems other ok .. but i duno if other place WiFi ... maybe itz only my hse wifi ... pening ~ any other solution ? .. tq ... coz my bro said my unc laptop also cant acces our hse wifi ... bit weird
*
we try to narrow the root cause and find out first whether is router issue or laptop issue before shit ppl, it's memper"sia-sui"kan or you think u're lowest/non- educated ppl !

since you said your uncle laptop also cant access your house wifi, you may just focus on your router setting. (not sure may consider hard reset your router)

suggestion: try your laptop on other wifi hot-spot, if also cant work then read below:

try to apply this Intel Utility Patches ----> http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R162289.EXE
it's work for me as encounter intermittently drop and cant detect signal issue.
make sure ur router also compatible with vista.

Nope my XP is the 5 bucks version.

Device manager no !, ?, X.

When installing the drivers i followed the order stated in the 1st post.

When BSOD it restarts straight away. Kinda impossible to take note of the tech info.
*
you may check C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\ folder, there will have the dump files if windows are able to capture the errors before restart. the dump files informations are useful for you.
Another ways may check the windows event viewer for any errors.

My pleasure. It's important to have that Dell OEM XP CD. Hurry and grab it. rclxm9.gif

Although in my current case fr33dom, you NEED to key in the product license key just once to during installation. If you do reinstallation / format HDD etc again after that, the system won't ask for the key again. Maybe it's stored in Dell BIOS. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
product license key required if you just reinstall windows inside the windows mode.
it's doesn't or won't stored the product license key in Dell BIOS.

*
always see wrong mindset with complete cover. I can see many user misunderstood with the dell warranty on complete cover. complete cover doesn't meant cover everything ok? please read the T&C again:
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/top...c=my&l=en&s=gen

you think that u can claims LCD grainy issue by complete cover? shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

when you set to highest resolution, you may actually change the size/font all to biggest. [utilize & click on Dell QuickSet at systray, shotcut for you, else change in windows setting.]

hi all, i would to ask a question, when i format my vista and install xp, did i need to install the bios driver?

one more thing is : -
In BIOS:
Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off
Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA

did i need to change back to original setting after i installed xp?
*
no need to update BIOS every time when you reformat computer
I would suggest you stay in ATA, don't change.

you can downgrade back to previous older version of BIOS if you felt latest version not good for you.

The info about the SIM slot in the battery compartment
*
alrite, maybe somebody should PIN this info so everyones easy to search info.

the SIM must apply together with mobile broadband card or WAN card. which is inspiron1520 still have another empty mini PCI-e slot ready. currently Maxis or Celcom 3G Internet only work with their own devices. Therefore SIM slot cannnot be use at this moment, maybe in future Maxis or Celcom will work with Dell for this.
In Australia, they can use it as vodafon are ready for it.

I'm wondering why that my Dell Inspiron 1520 is vibrating like hell whenever I use the DVD drive. Is it normal for it to vibrate and produce a really great noise? Is anyone else facing the same problem?
*
for notebook, the dvd drive are quite sensitive compare to desktop, once the quality of disc not that good specially DVD. high speed spinning coz cant read data well might produce vibrating or noise. For me, this is normal. you may try using Dell original DVD, you will see the different.

anyone know what's the different with the new inspiron 1525?
*
the new different are:

1. size: inspiron 1525 are slimmer
2. connector: additional AV out: HDMI
3. software: MediaDirect 3.5 now, 1520 is only 3.3
4. video opt: only integrated video, no more nvidia card opt anymore.
5. back cover: additional 3/4 new design, while 1520 only 8 solid colors
6. close latch: no more clip latch but change to same design as 1420

so far, that's all I observe. update again if I know more.

Guys, can anyone help me with this 1520 laptop, i can't play any FPS game after installing into it as it stated that some files were missing, other than FPS game, it got no problem, any suggestion to solve the problem.....

Stupid customer service cheated me once and i dont feel want to ask twice, the first time was i request to downgrade to XP and she said 1520 was designed for vista platform till i came across this thread and claimed warranty without a week after delivery for the unstable and deflected cover base, they sent someone to dismantle the whole laptop for the sak to change it....Dell really freaks me out liu....

Added on February 8, 2008, 5:04 amBTW the request was done b4 delivery....should i make a complain to them?
*
call back dell sales, not more than 14days when you receive system. refund the system then re-purchase winxp system or other way round. OEM cannot be downgrade/change OS with same system. by legally, dell only can collect back system then change other system with diff os.

more than >14days? good luck.... hardly get thennn

noway, OEM are not exchangeable or downgradeable. just advise to get your own XP yourself then download XP drivers yourself via http://support.ap.dell.com/

*
if you're manner customer, please read the term and condition before ask for noobie question or ask for unreasonable request. else please ask politely. lightning strike are not covered in the warranty, why dell should replace a new one? I can see this is are really a good will from dell coz still replace the motherboard that HouHouSek are appreciated I believe.

hello, recently my 1520 LAN port is kinda problematic, I cannot have network connection cry.gif . The LAN port which is on the right hand side have 2 lights, one RED light which is always ON while the ORANGE light which will blink all the time.

Now when I connect the LAN cable, both light will be on for 3 seconds, then off for 3 seconds. At the same time on the Windows, when the light is on (it will display acquiring network address) while when the light is off (it will display the cable is unplugged). This situation repeat again and again. At first i thought it is the LAN cable problem, but then I've changed the other LAN cable the problem still exists.

So can somebody verify this problem as the LAN port malfunction?  cry.gif
*
for 1520,
left steady amber, right blinking amber = detect 100 Mbit Connection
left steady green, right blinking amber = detect only 10 Mbit Connection.

==========================================================
Network link and data activity LEDs. A green link indicates the network connection is active.
Blinking activity indicates the network adapter driver is loaded and the adapter is detecting activity.

If the LOM is not being recognized, check if it is enabled in BIOS.

you may flash the latest BIOS also. then try your network in safe mode with networking.
You may also test the network card with Broadcom Advanced Control Suite utilities too in normal windows.

good luck.

it depends on ur warranty u bought i believe...i bought 3 years complete cover for my laptop...so i think they will replace the battery as well...correct me if im wrong...

about the wear level, i ask my fren from dell, he told me normally 2 years...means 365x2 = 730days...
*
then let's me correct you....
you definitely wrong !!!!

no matter you bought 3 years complete cover, complete cover guard, extended to 5 years, etc bla bla...
all notebook battery only MAX 1 year warranty. not more that and no extended warranty for battery allow when system warranty extend
and don't ask for replacement as why new battery last for 3hrs and after 11months its last for 1hr. no replacement.. this is not battery fault but its usage

just like your car tyre, after 1 year drive you also cannot ask the vendor change for replacement.

check the BIOS, under battery health, if perform normally then battery no problem.
or press the battery buttons on the battery, if the 5 led blink 1-0-1-0-1, it indicate failure.
other than that are normal.

Anyone having probs wit the disc drive while reading CDs? It took a particularly longer time to read a CD than a DVD. Like for a DVD there's no need to wait, but for CD, juz waiting for the autoplay takes at least 3-4 minutes, which is annoying...

And also the WLAN thingy. I've been connecting to the internet thru a wireless router for 2 weeks now. Since the last 2 days I suddenly only get 'limited access' from that connection but everything works fine when I go downstairs, which is nearer to the router. I then tried to 'pull' the connection from downstairs to upstairs (connect to internet downstairs, bring lappie upstairs to continue) and everything works well. Anyone noe wut's wrong?
*
if there is no cd compatible or limitation issue, you may try to open device manager to uninstall secondary IDE channel(winxp) or DVD drives(vista)
OR
remove filter

For wireless, when encounter limited access usually most but not all cases; cause from router and compatibility issue too. if using vista, try to remove IPv6, if using winxp just try to reset/restart router or upgrade firmware. if you need more strong signal for different location, you may try to adjust the roaming and power management to "highest" (of cause it consume more power). update wireless card driver also may help. if all the thing already try still not resolved. we also need to consider environmentally cause; eg: cordless phone, monitor, microwave, etc... may interrupt wifi.

^ Long way for photovoltaics to be that efficient...

Anyone had any probs wit Firefox? From time to time my firefox gets disconnected from the internet. There's no warning one. It's like 'loading' forever wit the window blank. Den have to restart FFX den can again. But the same prob comes back after a while. Den keep ask me to connect to internet while I'm already connected wirelessly to my wireless router.
I dont encounter any issue using Firefox. hey... Apple Safari also very a good browser. try it.
FFX suspect is the FX video/audio engine which is a software from dell webcam manager. try to remove 6 items for the webcam software and reinstall it by CD, else just disable it from msconfig.
