32-bit O/S won't support more than 3.50 GB. 500MB is already reserved for the system.

The patch is just to display the total number of RAM the user installed, not the number of usable RAM (memory that is addressable by the O/S). In other words, it's only for display. The O/S won't use the extra 500 MB if you install 4.00GB.

I'd recommend you to install 64-bit O/S if you want to install 4GB of RAM. The driver support and performance currently isn't bad.

Also, if you run 2x2.00 GB then you'll be able to use Dual Channel. If you get 3.00GB (1 x 1.00GB + 1 x 2.00GB) then you won't be able to use dual channel.

Hmm, since my laptop now is running smoothly, I think I should just stick to my current 2GB dual channel RAM. Anyway, just now have a chance to take a look at DELL 1525 and I found that the body material is not the same as 1520. It feels very plasticky and I dont think it is magnesium alloy brows.gif . Anyone can verify? The looks of 1525 is quite nice though.  blush.gif

yea, I think it's plastic .. and fragile, laugh.gif

use a keyboard protector, made of silicon.cover the palmrest part with cloth,i use a polishing cloth(new) during typing. It will at least absorb sweat from the palm. icon_idea.gif

I'm using 3gb aswell and it's showing Dual Channel aswell. I'm not sure it shows that the RAM is Dual Channel or running Dual Channel though.

Anyway , any one here using Intel 4965 Wireless card ? I'm using Dell 1505 and I'm thinking to upgrade.
Is there anyone interested with my Dell 1505 card ? hmm.gif

Magnesium alloy it's not, but the paint job is nice and smooth on my 1525. It does look plasticky but then you get what you paid for, so it's ok. And I'd like to think that the build materials used for both 1520 and 1525 are the of the same type. I've seen colours wearing off on my colleagues' company Dell 1520 laptops. So if your purchase decision is somewhat affected by the build materials used, then Inspiron is not a good consideration.

So far, my Dell Inspiron 1525 has been performing quite ok... though it seems to hang for about 1 to 2 full minutes once entering into desktop screen after startup. It seems like it's always having a hard time acquiring IP address from my modem router ..

But now the problems have seized.only occasional windows crash. nod.gif
