My friend staying in London. Say they always cook themselves. Cannot afford to eat outside.

Malaysian take it for granted too much. Seldom people cook themselves in Malaysia. All go out eat.

That means should increase more on food price.

That's because selling food as a business in western countries require you to comply with shitloads of health regulations. Those stuff cost a lot which is why they're expensive to operate on a small scale.

Here a lot of hawker and street stall apa pun tak comply. Open tepi jalan and pay your kopi dues and you're off to business.

Malaysia food no 1 get food poisoning. You don't know real food poisoning until you kena exit both ends frm mouth and bottom non stop for few hrs. Lucky this I only kena once. Exit frm bottom kena few times from some stores as shops are not required to keep really clean.

Sohai TS, dont know how many people will now rage over this suggestion. London high income, earn uk pound. Your friend either student, convert from myr ofc expensive af. If working, sure income wont be high because transfer from developing country. Alot of locals here quite dim, listen to friend this listen to friend that, end up see the world in wrong way.

Also, you are not local you won't know cheaper places. KL very cheap meh? Outside of coffee shop, none is cheap. All above 10.

Running an FnB business in western Europe is damn expensive. Even small stall need to comply with a shitload of permits and regulations, there are mandatory courses in hygiene, and rules on what you are allowed to sell. And then if you employ someone they demand a living wage.

In London u still can get a meal for £1.. or if u go for normal harrod's lunchbox, £8.. it's just like RM8.

Dollar to dollar, people treat £1 in UK like RM1 in Malaysia..

Precisely. Anyone complaining must not be earning local there, the kind that have to convert everything back to RM. Torture la liddat, not holiday anymore. Unless...

Speaking of which, I'm currently in Ireland, visiting my relatives here. 750g of red onion at Tesco here 59c, huge chunk of broccoli 49c, 1L whole milk 75c. Times 4.5 to convert back to RM. So yea, if wanna be cheaper than Msia, you can.

Back to UK :

In Msia, i dunno how to shop RM5.50 enough for 3 meals as complete as that. Starbucks, McD Msia don't give milk, can't use creamer like him.

So yea, if so want to, it can be argued Msia is more poor/expensive than UK, TS friend is water fish.

I cannot even imagine how to finish £100 in 1 go if shop normally, and that is for at least 4 people's worth of groceries lol. Even if wanna splurge with lobster, some caviar, still doable!

TS friend will die of starvation if go Switzerland lol.

I cannot even imagine how to finish £100 in 1 go if shop normally, and that is for at least 4 people's worth of groceries lol. Even if wanna splurge with lobster, some caviar, still doable!
Yea, for that price, i think people rather buy breads at bread shop eg Lavender, Komugi, The Loaf.

Ah, i remember that Italian variant, so they've stopped, damn shame.

depending on what u wanna buy lah

£30 also can get plenty already

basmathi rice is around £1.5 per kilo

our local rice also already around rm 2+ per kilo IIRC

I usually buy Jasmine rice.. Can get £5.50 for 5kg pack...

Usually I get like 3kg chicken thighs, 2kg pork, 12 large free range eggs, vege for the week.. all in less than £20 weekly enough for 2 people..

Malaysia food is cheap.

#truestory

Sorry to hijack ts thread for a little.

For mak cik nih, if one has been working for 30 years. Even with a just average pay up to 5k at retirement they can still rake in at least half million savings if they don’t yolo like the way you mentioned.

Usually those who can’t sustain are those...
1. Living frugal life but give their char siew whatever they want. So end up even poorer. Self no spend. All char siew spends. Top kek.
2. Gambling god. Self explanatory.
3. Investment that went wrong. Can kesian. But mlm then deserves it.
4. #YOLO throughout.

And don’t rage sangat. Treat yourself a happy mekdi meal 😂

Day day cook at home surely saves a lot. I’m feeding 3-4 pipu with monthly groceries worth 400. That’s with minimum one meat. Cooking 5 days a week.

While many people says Malaysia food is the cheapest, my Indian friends (from India) say Indian food is cheaper than Malaysia's.
