fake zoom

Seems like there will be some controversy soon.

Haha

Quote from your link

Sometimes the industry plays little tricks on the uninformed customer and dazzles us all with marketing bullshit, that we so desperately want to believe. Case in point: The new Samsung Galaxy S20-generation, which finally landed last week and can already be pre-ordered for a delivery in early March. To better compete with the likes of Huawei, Xiaomi und Apple, Samsung decided to go all nuts over its new cameras in all the three versions of the Galaxy S20-series.
When it comes to the cameras, the virtually hidden specsheet of the Galaxy S20-trio reveals a pretty massive difference between the Galaxy S20 Ultra and its slightly smaller siblings. However Samsung's clever marketing tricks try to cover it all up. Neither the Galaxy S20 nor the Galaxy S20+ have any kind of real zoom camera, the so-called "Telephoto Camera" only offers a ridiculously low 1.06 optical zoom factor, which is essentially no magnification at all. The touted "3x Hybrid Optic Zoom" is a mere crop into the (presumably) 64 megapixel wide-angle image, followed by regular, lossy, 10x digital zoom.
-------------------------------
Its there all the time but just dont get caught.

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Feb 16 2020, 03:30 PM)
I hope it's not true. Very bad for the brand if found out to be misleading consumers.
*
It is just digital/hybrid zoom on the smaller S20 and S20+. As stated, the primary camera has and angle of 79 while the so-called "telephoto" camera only has an angle of 76 while the real telephoto camera on Ultra has an angle of 24. That explains it all. Real optical zoom only available on the ultra up to 4x to 5x.

5G is still at its development stages. So can't blame Samsung either. But since 5G is not needed/available yet, might as well we just use back our phones and wait for 5G to be working and then only decide which phone to buy. Since it doesn't make much of a difference as newer phones without 5G would be just the usual "better processor, better camera, a bit larger screen and better screen", and in the S20's case you even have smaller storage of 128gb of the current 256GB storage expected on current flagship phones.  tongue.gif  laugh.gif
*
Yeah. Agreed 5G is still being developed. But by end of this year at least we will have commercial sub 6 GHz 5G as announced by MCMC last month. This also at least in Klang Valley I believe. Forget about the mmWave for now as I think they will come in phase 2 of 5G deployment. Looking around the world, only the US has commercial mmWave service while most countries including China, HK, South Korea started with sub 6 GHz 5G. That also mean the Snapdragon version from South Korea is a potential device to be imported for those who want Snapdragon as it supports the C-band 3.5 GHz 5G in Malaysia.

For me the main thing is the Exynos chipset. Hence, cancelled the preorder. The 120 Hz screen is tempting though.

Whats the issue with the 128GB version if you can add on a micro sd card that is U3 Class 10 UHS-I A2? Speed should be sufficient right?

Any 45w chargers that would work well with the S20 Ultra other than the official Samsung one? Quite expensive RM 180 for the charger.. =(
*
microSD is always way slower than internal storage, not to mention now Samsung use UFS 3.0 which is itself much faster than the UFS 2.1 in the S10 last year.

45 W won't come cheap as you need 5 A thick cable to safely work.

I know some people who are keeping "useless" pictures just because they are too lazy to manage their files.
These are the same people who complain why they run out of storage and that's the only time they will delete hundreds of pictures.

This is what Samsung has to say. brows.gif

Wow. The stabilization at 4k 60 is amazing. I remember in a year or two before, this kind of stabilization can only be done at 1080p 30. Now at that 1080p 30, we have even better stabilization called super steady. Also, the 8k 24 is an option now.

Much larger camera sensor size than previous phones. Next potential challenger is P40 Pro but without GMS.

personally i find it quite annoying to carry a heavy brick along.  i don't think it's too much to ask a top tier phone to last entire day usage without needing a topup charge
*
Exactly. A smartphone should be portable i.e. without heavy brick.

China has always been getting the Snapdragon version. But about 1k more expensive than the Exynos Ultra in Malaysia. However, they get 256 GB internal storage.
