I have just gotten a Spouse Visa for my wife for the first time(I’m a Malaysian). The immigration officer mentioned something about some officers will be visiting us at home unannounced to check if our marriage is legit or not. Is this true and if it is, what are they actually checking and what are they gonna ask. Also, what if during that time, the both of us are not at home when the officers arrive? Do we ‘fail’ to continue with the Visa?

First I heard of this bullshit.
My wife is a foreigner as well and have been in Msia for the last 5 years. Not once did any immigration officer come to my house to "check on us". With the amount of illegal immigrants in the country, you think they so damn free to check on spouses?

That is only a possibility. So, nothing to worry about. You worry too much. Not home does not mean cheating

Yes, actually procedure they can do that. Either immigration department or police department can visit for spot check. But usually they lazy to do that, but they will need a confirmation letter from Police department to clear it in order for immigration to proceed to next stage.

How long did you have to wait to get the visa approved?
Did they call you to tell the visa is approved or how?

That's mine experience.
So basically, per SOP, they should come but eyes were closed?

Once all the documents were submitted, there's a 30 working day wait for the result. On the 29th day I called the Immigration department and enquired about the status and it was approved. So, roughly a month is all it takes.

Woah. My neighbour asked the immigration in JB for her Singaporean husband waiting time for approval was 4-6 months!
Wait and wait until her husband died from heart attack last month.
My wife also foreigner with spouse visa, never kena
Usually the one kena is the foreign husband from suspicious nation such as Africa and Arab
A Japanese friend staying in Penang kena visited often, she said they will call. maybe depend on location and how details your house picture and so on (we even send our picture in front of the house hahaha). So far for us nothing tooo

Do you aware all spouse visa max can only 1 yrs for now. No longer 3 to 5 yrs like last time.
Depend on nationality and LHDN record. Waifu got 5 years after first 6month ended. (Nov 2019)

You may visit this page, https://www.facebook.com/FSSGMY. Updated information regarding foreign spouses seeking assistance and information. I am also married to a foreigner. It has been 5 years now and the renewal is easy and fast. Done the renewal last year during MCO and everything is smooth without waiting for too long like before. For the first-time application, you may drop by to immigration office to get the supporting forms for the spouse visa application. You need to submit all the relevant documents required. The immigration officer will give you a checklist for this. Good luck

The best thing to do is to go to the Thai consulate and get a checklist of all the forms needed. Also, go to the Immigration department and get the forms needed from them also. Make sure you fill them up then submit to the Thai Consulate and Immigration department. Most people fail to get their documentation right, hence they have to make a few trips to the relevant departments.

They will call for a visit if your picture information tak lengkap. That all.

Don't be so sure, it depends on your spouse's nationality

Apply married permission is easy but spouse visa more documentation need. If your future wife is working prepare to be out of job for around a year during the process.
Depend on your address. KL office is more smooth than selangor. Directly go to immigration office asking for checklist because different office diffrent document... different requirements.

u mean thai embassy here in KL? for spouse visa application (first time application) still need to deal with Thai embassy? i tot just with malaysian immigration only?

Will follow where is your residence address. I'm staying in Setapak so I went to Immigration Jalan Duta. If you are staying in Selangor then go to Shah Alam. Those who go to Putrajaya are mostly married to African and China National if not mistaken. Just comply with the documentation required, all will be smooth.
Does anyone knows as a sponsor ( I'm a Malaysian) can we use rental of our property as income (more than rm2.5K) to apply for Spouse visa for my wife (foreigner)? I was retrenched back in 2020 so fortunately i do have alternative income which is collecting prop rental as my income.....so can i use that income to be a sponsor? anyone can advise?

It depends on Immigration, imm Sha Alam doesn't check at all but in Johor , they check as my friend told me
Don't be so sure, it depends on your spouse's nationality
Vietnam/PRC, they do check.....
It's not about nationality, it depends on Immigration for each state I am Vietnamese but they dont check at all. Since i get spouse visa, i can apply permit to work in the same day in Sha Alam Imm.

When I submit my income tax form
I ask them whether need to show the proof of rental income
They ask me no need since won't taken into consideration
