I have just gotten a Spouse Visa for my wife for the first time(I’m a Malaysian). The immigration officer mentioned something about some officers will be visiting us at home unannounced to check if our marriage is legit or not. Is this true and if it is, what are they actually checking and what are they gonna ask. Also, what if during that time, the both of us are not at home when the officers arrive? Do we ‘fail’ to continue with the Visa?

First I heard of this bullshit.

My wife is a foreigner as well and have been in Msia for the last 5 years. Not once did any immigration officer come to my house to "check on us". With the amount of illegal immigrants in the country, you think they so damn free to check on spouses?  dry.gif

That is only a possibility. So, nothing to worry about. You worry too much. Not home does not mean cheating  smile.gif

Yes, actually procedure they can do that. Either immigration department or police department can visit for spot check. But usually they lazy to do that, but they will need a confirmation letter from Police department to clear it in order for immigration to proceed to next stage.

That's mine experience.

So basically, per SOP, they should come but eyes were closed?

How long did you have to wait to get the visa approved?

Did they call you to tell the visa is approved or how?

Once all the documents were submitted, there's a 30 working day wait for the result. On the 29th day I called the Immigration department and enquired about the status and it was approved. So, roughly a month is all it takes.

how is the process to get the spouse visa for your wife? is it difficult?

im about to register my marriage with JPN (my wife is frm Thailand) and seeking advise on how to apply for a spouse visa for her.... anyone can share your experience?

The best thing to do is to go to the Thai consulate and get a checklist of all the forms needed. Also, go to the Immigration department and get the forms needed from them also. Make sure you fill them up then submit to the Thai Consulate and Immigration department. Most people fail to get their documentation right, hence they have to make a few trips to the relevant departments.

I asked the Immigration officer and it seems they only renew your visa for 5 years once you have a child. Until then it's on a 1 year basis.
