After listening and reading the so many dangers of 3ROD, and such/// I just wanna ask those who sis have theirs 3rod-ed, what were the condition before the 3rod?
As in u were playing nicely for 15 minutes, turn off for 3 hours and try on again...wallah3rod!!!!

I"m trying to say here is that those who have been killed before on their x box due to 3rod, please tell us how it happens actually, what happened to Xbox before the 3rod...conditon of it, played/unplayed/that kinda stuff...

Not many people says how it becam 3rod, and not prior to before condition... I'm kinda scared to get one now with so much commnets about it....
but annoyed at how they don mention what made the xbox 3rod?

Its very hard to tell what really hits the 3 Red Rings Of Death.

For Put it simple. = Cheap Manufacturing Product.

For Detail = (it could be one of them But I can't confirm any how )

The Processor of the GPU and CPU has started to "Lift" up. (Due to On/Off Playing)

"Lift" means the CPU And GPU starting to separated from the motherboard (slighty, you can't really see unless you got an X-Ray Mobo Scanner [is that what they call ? ] )

This Happens when everytime we turn on our xbox 360. The CPU/GPU Gets Very Hot (enough to cook an egg if you didn't attach the fan laugh.gif )

After a long period time of Turning it On/Off (Hence Hot Cold affects)

The motherboard start to Flex Hence the "separation" of the CPU/GPU from the motherboard.

Which Cost the Effect of Three Red Rings Of Death.

Do note : this is one of the symptoms of a easier explanation I could be wrong. smile.gif

but i end up getting E74 doh.gif

but somehow taking too much care doesn't help to prevent the 3 Red Rings Of Death. As you can see.. (including you) we all tried to take as good or should I say as best as possible.

But it ends up dead right in front of us.

so I said play everyday laugh.gif

let say you had done x clamp method, then the heat gun method, then the 12v fan method. if happens again. you can really use it as a door stopper or paper weight.

oh my...
now, seriously, is it worth getting x box now then?
I initially wanted to get Wii, instead of X box...
then my friend who had both, brought both Wii and X box for me to test...
Wii was alright for first 1 hour... then my arms began to ache...not to mention the games were just party games...
Tried the Xbox then - GOW...
And i just got hooked straight into it...the control feels soooo easy to me (got PS2 already ;P) and graphics were way better...
So started to wan an X box...especially with all the good action games..
But then this 3rod problem started surfacing, and the more i read about it, the more apprehensive i became, as nearly everyone seem to experience it, especially in the US...even here.
Thing is, does the guarantee/warranty cover Malaysia too, especially for 3rod?
otherwise, it's kinda lame to spend RM1700 on a machine just to see it kaput within a year...This is especially hard for me, as my income is low, and hard to get by te chance of getting one...

that depends on where you get from. But for malaysia for the xbox 360 warranty are just only for a year.. unless you bring your own to singapore to verify the problem (seems now are 3 years warranty).

No need to think, just play it as much as u can, no need to worry about what precaution methods or watever safety guidelines, enjoy it as much as possible before it stops working. If it's dead, send warranty, x-clamp fix or buy new one, OR just stop playing it. It's like life wink.gif you can't worry about too much.

I had two xbox 360s die on me. Both are Japanese units running off a step down transformer.

Xbox #1
From day one, I had some problem with this one. Occasionally, I get a message on screen that I should place the game DVD in an xbox 360. Sometimes, it takes quite a few tries of ejecting and restarting the xbox before the game starts properly. A check online reveals that this is a sign of possible hardware problem. I prayed hard that this is not the case and for almost 6 months, the unit worked fine except for the problem above.

Then one fine day while I was in a game, the screen froze. After a reboot, it was fine again but it started to happen more frequently over the next couple of days. Then it started to freeze after a couple of minutes in any game but will work indefinitely while in dashboard or viewing a movie.

Then it started to freeze while in dashboard and just a short while later, I got the 3ROD. Unplugging everything and reattaching managed to revive the unit one last time for a few seconds but after that it died permanently.

Xbox #2
Worried that the transformer might have been the cause of death, I got a much bigger (and more expensive) transformer for the 2nd unit. It too had a minor problem from day one. Once a while (every week or so) I will get a disc cannot be read error. A check that this problem is common as well but no one has linked this problem to a possible hardware error.

This second unit lasted about almost 6 months as well. The symptoms were very similar to the first unit. First it started freezing occasionally. Then more frequent. Then it freezes almost immediately in a game and finally 3ROD.

This time, I sent the unit to Djinn for the xclamp replacement. Got worried for a while though as it took almost 2 weeks for it to get fixed as it still wasn't stable after the replacement. I just got it back a few days ago and so far I have run it for about 3-4 hours each day and noticeable problems.

Conclusion:
If you are really worried about 3ROD I think it is wise to hold off until MS solves the problem or the new 65nm units are out. Despite all that you read here I don't think that there is anything that you can do avoid getting the 3ROD and the chances of getting a dud unit is pretty high at over 30%.

Just to share my xperience....

My xbox have been attack by the 3rod before.. just ngam2 after 6 month from date of purchase this 3rod attack my console ( I'm really curious on this as many of the cases of the 3rod is after 6 month of playing this console.. but that maybe coincidence..)

Then I've send my precious to bro tot and he have revive my console by doing the x-clamp replacement. During that time I'm the most happy person on earth when can see my consoles survive the 3rod! (thank to bro tot for a good job!! rclxms.gif ) But sadly, my happiness is only last for about 2 month when this bloody 3rod attack my console for the second time.. I'm really piss off by this time as nearly I hammer my 360 and wanted to post a video off in in yourtube. vmad.gif

Because of this stupid 3rod fever, I really give up on this console.. than my precious which I take care and treated it nicely before have become my expreriment material. Upon my investigation I found out why this 3rod have appear even after being done the xclamp replacement method. The screw that tighten the heat sink on both GPU n CPU is really play a great role either can causing or prevent this 3rod. we cannot over tighten this screw and have to make sure the pressure on all 4 point is same or the board will tend to bend when this GPU is too hot. After re-adjusting the pressure on all the screw that replace the xclamp finally my console is revive for the second time!!. Then by look at the stupid design by Microsoft!! (really, whoever have seen the way their put the GPU under the dvdrom and how many space they get to 'ventilate' the hot airflow inside this 360 unit .. you will understand) I add 1 xtra 12V fan and do a ducting using a cardboard for this fan to blow an air to this really hot GPU fin. that the original fan I have modified to have a direct 12V source all the time to make sure the hot air being sucked out from this console at all time. To make used this 2 original fan I have make a separate route for each fan so that I fan suck a CPU hot air and 1 more fan direct suck the GPU hot air. this link give you some good tutorial.. : http://rbjtech.bulldoghome.com/pages/rbjte...com/Xbox360.htm

Untill now everything still in good working condition and I really hope that Microsoft can upgrade their design / component their used to improve the ventilation inside this console. No doubt 360 is excellent gaming machine with all the great title they already have and much more good game will come later for sure. My only regret on this console is when this 3rod appear but I'm also very satisfied with its performance on the graphics department and also all other parts.

Until 60mm chip being released in the market.. just hold on tight and just enjoy you game without worrying on this 3rod.. because the xprerience you get is really awesome!
