Legacy 1.8 engine with GR Sport package... what?!

I'm not sure about other, I test drove gen12 1.8G before, uninspiring acceleration, no oomph, so I moved on to get gen11.5 2.0v instead...

Normal E or G spec version use back 1.8 ok la, but GR Sport should give other powertrain...

The previous page ZeneticX mentioned rumours are the new Corolla will be CKD. Since your SA told you it's still CBU from Thailand, then the rumour may be a false one. If the new Corolla is still CBU from Thailand, then it's acceptable. However, the fact that remains is the current (old) Corolla which is not available for sale anymore was sold at RM20k cheaper (after discount) when compared to the new Corolla.

Gen11.5 2.0V, meaing you got from the second hand market?
On paper the engine specs such as hp and torque between 1.8 and 2.0 for this model doesn't look very big difference..but not sure about the actual driving feel..what's your review so far?

Several test-drive on Youtube revealed the current latest Corolla under TNGA platform to be vastly improved in handling whereas the old Corolla or Toyota cars in general are only good in comfort (soft suspension) but lacking in handling. The latest Toyota models with TNGA platform were said to have been noticeably improved in areas of handling while maintaining comfort. In one of the test drive videos of YS Khong up Genting Highlands, he has made this remark. He gave very good reviews on the Corolla when he brought it up Genting Highlands. Anyway, I don't think he ever gave any poor reviews as all the vehicles he tested all handled good or great to him. biggrin.gif

The GR Sport package of the new Corolla doesn't look appealing or good value to me. The only mechanical tuning or difference is in the suspension while the rest are all cosmetic, unlike the Corolla Cross GR Sport where there are 3 mechanical changes or tuning in the suspension, steering and additional bracing at the bottom of the vehicle. The additional premium of RM5k between the GR version of the Corolla Cross and Corolla is the same but the Cross gets more mechanical differences/tuning. Perhaps the body kit of the new Corolla sedan is more substantial than the Cross and costs higher.

Haven't seen the Corolla sedan GR Sport in real life but the normal versions look good as it is. Hopefully they don't ruin the looks of the vehicle to make it like a racer boy car with the body kit. In my mind, Toyota did a great job with the Corolla Cross GR Sport as it looked better on the exterior than the normal Cross version mainly due to the revised grille at the front.

Answer: Yes

Answer: Well I have not drove gen11.5 1.8 before. For gen12 with 1.8, i feel smooth slow on acceleration, but when you want sudden power and press heavier throttle, the engine and gearbox feels stubborn to react and no changes on the speed.
Well, to be fair gen12 was heavier than gen11.5, so 1.8 on gen11.5 could be good enough. And I suspect the gen12 gear logic was tuned for fuel saving in standard driving mode.

There's one member at Facebook group upgraded from gen11.5 2.0V to gen12, already 1 year he said until now still trying to adapt to it, he has to switch to sports mode all the time when drive on highway.

SportyHandling Yes, I feel the body roll on gen11.5 for me is quite big. I remembered I test drove both Civic Ketam and this car at the same used car dealer, once came to the roundabout, already feel the gen11.5's tall body and body roll, while Civic Ketam just went through without such sensation.

Just to update. The Toyota salesman at the PJ branch had called me today to inform that there is a unit of Corolla (high spec) in white that is still available at a RM11k discount. First come first serve. If anyone is interested I will post the contact here on this thread.

We have decided to go with Corolla Cross GR Sport so won't be getting the current Corolla even with the 11k discount.

Not sure if display car. I didn't ask but likely not a display because there isn't any white display in the showroom when I went there. I suspect rejected loan unit.

before facelift news come out, already booked 1.8G in April (3 months ago) with 8k discount + SA discount 3k.
SA said can get car in May, if cannot get in May, sure can get in June.

May, called SA, SA say no stock
June, called SA, SA say no stock

Now already July, SA said no stock again and waiting new promotion package.

Toyota can tarik balik the 8k discount? Is it fair to consumer because I already booked a unit since April and Toyota promised a 8k discount.

I'm facing the same issue but its from the competitor and what the SA said is to wait for the launch and see if there's any promotion offered. So for me if there's no discount and with the price increase significantly I will just cancel my booking. smile.gif

I'm baffled by this. I made a booking few days before Raya in April. Got my loan approved in 1 day - I was in rush, so no waiting, straight agree with CIMB's rate - and get the car 2 days before Raya.

Now almost 3 months used.

I bought from SS15 branch there. If you want, I can give the SA contact to you.

Yes, but it's tuned more toward comfort with some handling elements thrown in. The current plain Corolla looks good as it is. Hopefully the GR Sport version won't ruin the looks of the car by turning it to look like Fast and Furious racer boy cars which may appeal more to youngsters.

comfort should not be badged GR sports la. it would probably sit on bigger rim, some skirting, maybe sports springs.
wont be tuned for comfort for sure!!!!

It's not a "true" GR Sport as there's a separate fleet of those vehicles available starting from RM300k and above. The Corolla Cross and Corolla sedan with GR Sport badge are known to have good comfort while having a bit of decent handling. I have test driven the Corolla Cross "GR Sport" and can verify it's rather comfortable!
