My preregistered car is coming soon and I want to protect its paint from the get go. My main objectives are for the car:

1. Remain looking looking as beautiful as on display at the dealers
2. To keep the cost below the budget of RM5,000, this can be one-off, or be part of the maintenance payments (for example, wash and wax for RM200 every two months means the budget can last for four years)
3. To have a manageable maintenance, I would rather pay someone to do it than having to do it myself. The cost for maintenance should be chalked into the budget above

I understand that it may not be possible to keep my car just as beautiful when it was new, but it is not wrong to try. Look at the car below on display, it is NOT my car, but I how beautiful the paint shines

With these options that I have, which would be best suit my criteria above?:

1. applying a ceramic coating
2. installing PPF
3. applying bi-monthly wax

I have done pps teflon coating in Sunway before. I don’t really keep track on how good it heads over time but sure the first few months it was amazing. After that I got lazy to keep going back to the shop to keep washing the car using their specific wash. But after 7 years I sold the car and though it didn’t bead as before but the paint was still pretty good.

I did a cheap rm300 diamond 9H coating for my next car and for the price I paid it was pretty good. After 3-4 months I find the water isn’t as beady as the first day but still shiny after a wash. Don’t mind going to redo it in a Years time since so bloody cheap.

I did a a carpro quartz 3.0 and car pro gliss (3 layers ) for my super bike over the weekend. Since the bike is red in colour and red paint doesn’t last long in our hot sun. After the treatment it’s shiny and reflective like mirror now but gotta see how long that last. The guy says to come back in 6 months time to apply recoat and has a 5 year warranty. Cost is Rm1800 for a whole car but bike is half price off so why not for 5 years I don’t have to worry. But the guy is a one man show so need to leave it there as he takes like a whole day to do it, I think it’s better when one person does the job. At least there will be consistency in the work but that’s just me.

Ok as it is now I am so against the PPF because I do not like maintenance and keeping up with a schedule, especially after I have paid for it.

So for my Sunset Orange car, do you think I would just be best served with a "cheap RM300" coating? When you said coating, what do you mean? is this wax? Car detailing noob here, but I simply want to care my first conti car well.

Of the cheap coating I did was the diamond coating 9H. You can see many reviews about those cheap eBay 9H coating and generally reviews say it’s pretty good. Don’t expect it to last long but hey if after 1 year to pay another 300 then why not. Afterall those expensive coatings also need maintenance and scratch removal after a year anyway. Only thing the application skill of those guys are like kinda budget like the budget I pay. All rm300’kinda work. Like the door jams they didn’t clean, the boot also and the petrol tank area. Ish... but oh well.

Yer the one I did in Puchong whole car was rm300 for the cheap diamond coating. Can search fb, Adiwira ceramic. But all the cheap ones are about the same. Just go surgery which boss is friendly and go for it.

Beware of the over-polishing, has the same mindset as you and sent my car for yearly polish and coating, some area already faded due to overpolishing, especially the rear view mirror the paint has come off. Of coz the shop won't admitted and ask back what happened when I revisit.

but it is possible to wax without polishing right? if we do it right, we may not need to polish that often since the waxing would only add another layer on top of the clear coat (or on top of the previous wax that still remains)

Personally I find PPF to be the best to guard against pesky chips from stones. The other easy option is to send Your car for weekly wash. I wash all my 4 cars with a high pressure water jet weekly then clay when needed. Looks good so far. My friends whom did coatings claim it doesn’t stop water mark nor stops stone chips. He decides to go wrap as its much cheaper than ppf

I think this is my plan for my new car:

1. Send it to install M-performance parts (just for looks)
2. Send it for waxing
3. Send it for front-side PPF

What do you think?

2. Just do waterwet. I don’t particularly like wax as dust and debris will stick on it. Then when you wash your car, rubbing the surface with the dirty wax may scratch the car.
3. Best option but costly.

You still need to use cleaner wax/polish every 6 months because of heavy road grime and water mark. Unless your car parked indoor 24x7 then without polish/wax maintenance it will still looks nice after 5 years.
I knew a friend staying in condo, park indoor all the time at condo and office. Driving back and forth timing nice without rain. His car only got dust which can blew away using leaf blower and paintwork still nice nice.

well if it is too much work I guess Ill just have to send the car for detailing every 6 months. I guess if I send it to the shops they will know to use cleaner ahead of time. How much do you reckon this wax/polish service would cost me? Or I could just ask the shop below my condo

Frequent polish is not a concern. Problem is almost 90% of detailing/car wash shop in Malaysia doing roti canai job. All they knew is putting polish cream in the rotary sponge and turn it on putting pressure on your car and let it spin spin spin. FYI my car is VW which supposed to have thicker clear coat compare to cheaper national car, yet my paint already faded after 4 visits for polishing job outside due to "overpolishing"

if we do not polish, but only wax; and polish every year or 2 years, would that work to keep the shine of my car? i keep it under the roof most times when parked

By the way guys, any good car coating shop recommended in kulai/senai/skudai/jb area?

Polish only when there are water spots / grime / road tar that can't remove with normal washing.

Wax is one layer of shine that will fade away 2-3months.

If your car is always parked indoor, don't have polish frequently as watermark won't build up cuz no rainwater

Btw PPF is meant to protect from stone chips, your front bumper gonna have lots of tiny dots after driven 1year.
