sad.gif Sorry to hear that. You should backup your projects in other places such as pendrive, CD-RW/CD... To be safer..

back up your hdd as soon as possible and then follow acecombats advice on updating the firmware for your hdd. It being maxtor, hmm i dont what to say la sweat.gif but give it a go, if it still doesnt work, go rma if theres warranty left, or just buy a new hdd.

But remember, always back up your data

bro, the freezer ah, if put and forget means how? and also the case of water condensation when its transfered from zero temp to the hot malaysian temp... isnt it a myth?

first, u must put ur hdd in a plastic concealer, like the vegetable packet... vacum it

then freeze it in the freezer, for sure no water will get in.. it will give u 10 -20 minutes

DO NOT TRY THE FREEZER TRICK!

That will make things worse (and possibly making your data totally unrecoverable).

FYI, your HDD suffered the infamous Maxtor "N40P" firmware corruption issues. More information here:

Data recovery on Maxtor 6Exxx "N40P" hard disks:

Intellirecovery Data Recovery News and Updates: November 2004: Hard Disk Drive Failure Report: Increasing failures on Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 hard disk drives, AKA The N40P

In other words, not much can be done... either send to a professional data recovery service or find a repair software that can correct the firmware again.

Folks here, please do not mention the mythical freezer trick, methinks this is gonna be a warning.
