I tried using Norton in my system. Working fine until recently (Norton 2005 before)...

I used to think that Norton is a bad memory eater but to be honest, with 1GB of ram or more, it isnt really noticeable to me. But bad things happened when i tried to update to Norton 2007 (instead of Norton 360). To my surprise, Norton 2007 is not sucking my memory but my CPU speed. After installing the AV, my CPU speed/performance is at a constant 50% even on idle.

After thorough checking, i knew that it is the Norton that is causing the trouble. I uninstall it and keep on with my 2005.

Hmm, I prefer AVG or McAfee to Norton because most of the Norton products suck RAM except the Norton 360 which sucks lesser RAM. Just my 2 cents.

bitdefender sucks!! don't use it. They are being sold for RM49 or something right now to get people to buy them but they are ineffective in getting rid of malwares.

My friend's PC using bitdefender but got all sorts of virus problem. Then switched to avg, better but keep on prompting got virus and all but then switched to avira anti-vir. No more problems. Best of all avira is free.

But if you want good and stable antivirus, try nod32. It's quite effective (not 100%) but light on memory. Problem is, not so easy to learn how to use.

Used AVG before - Gave up after that. Detect unnecessary problems, give away dangerous ones.

Used McAfee before - Gave up as well. Dont like it (for unknown reasons).

For now, i only like NOD32, AntiVir, Norton. These are the ones i trust as off now without giving me any trouble thus far except for Norton 2007.

of course N360 is not resoucre hog.. (otherwise symantec is in big trouble)lack many important feature.. even newbie should not use it. i wonder why ppl still want to use N360. N360 is symantec answer after they failed to trim NAV in term of resource. What a nice piece of junk.
but i do agree that nowadays norton is not as resource hog as the old version

Bro, 1GB RAM also not enough la, if your running Windows Vista with Norton Internet Security 07 on and most of the startup items i.e. MSN, YM or Skype. Heck, 2GB ain't even enough.

Not quite true. McAfee is quite user-friendly already. Last time where I recommend my other friends (New to pc stuff) to use it and most of them don't have much problem with it and get used to it real soon.

Same. Last time when I was very noob and my friend introduced me this. Use McAfee until this year (well you know, no more xx-ed version.. not working = no money :/) and 'forced' to switch.

norton = causing com slow while scanning(ram consuming and cpu % eater)
kaspersky = very sensetive when it comes to online gaming(so far seen a lot of warnings/alerts when playing maple story)
mcafee = used b4, but it's ok ok that type
bit defender = never tried b4
avast = friend is using, ok for moderate security...
antivir = that's what i'm using....
zone alarm pro = incompatible with my linksys router :swt:...
