I am just curious whether any range of price consider for changing gearbox oil and engine oil as I found the price is quite ridiculous if we try to see the product online sale price.

Like recently I changed my engine oil semi and the charges is RM148 which I believe is ok but when they charge me RM240 to change the gear box oil of atf honda city dw - 1L (4LITER), I was shock with the price as online the same product seems be cheaper to each liter as RM60.

So, want to see any cheaper option available especially around klang valley, pj, kd area with the same brand product or even a match pricing with online sale price?

Workshops that uses the car conveyor lift normally charges around RM30 - 35 for labour to change engine oil / gear oil.

The more traditional workshop which uses jack stand will charge around RM20 for the same job.

By the way, Honda City requires only 3 litre of ATF DW1. If they filled in 4 litre, confirm its overfilled and may damage your gearbox in the long run.

Normally, 3 bottles of ATF DW1 will cost around RM75. Include the labour of RM20, it is around RM95 only. I know because I am driving a Honda City TMO.

Not all workshop likes someone walk in without using their stuff.
some will jack up the labour price and show you the "piss" Face that they don't welcome their customers bring in own stuff.

And the ones who do it are the Chinese workshop.

Yes, I feel cheated when I see the price of the product online such as this deal and seriously, charge 30-50 bucks for labour is understandable but jacking up the product price seems unreasonable:

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/honda-ci....7358fdc8KjnSt5

RM215 to change gear oil as I am thinking whether such pricing difference due to the product itself and thinking why so much difference the pricing even online that I am suspicious whether due the the quality or even any fake goods.

Oohh.. DTOX is always on the pricier side. Previously I had brought my own engine and transmission oil for them to replace. They charged me RM35 for labour.

I guess if you buy the oil / fluid from them, they will charge you an arm and a leg for them.

Engine oil can be as low as rm15 for labor only, while transmission can be 30-50 for labor only.
Engine oil can be as low as rm70-80 for branded semi synth. ATF can be as low as rm120/4ltr for some cars.

So true!

All these while I thought these oil/fluid changes would be difficult. After I changed it once, I was hooked

I bought some tools and have been doing these changes on my own for my car (and family, lol)

Oddly, transmission fluid changes are much more easier than engine oil, but more expensive. For engine oil change, its a bit messy as you’ll need to change filter, quite messy. For transmission, its just a bolt, relatively clean procedure

Plus, knowing u’ve done it correctly bring satisfaction

Yes. Changing oil and gear oil is easy. You'll feel stupid paying RM25-50 for the labour.

the main important point is not paying rm20-30 for labour but to clear the greasy oil into proper containment area...

If simply throw the oil will bring pollution to environment.. at least those shop will sent back to factory for re-processing.

I keep the used engine oil and accumulate a few bottles. Then when it's time to visit the local mechanic for parts replacement / repair, I will bring the used oil for disposal.

The mechanic will accept them willingly as they can sell off the used oil for around RM150++ (per barrel).

Keep back to where you pour from.
Then bring to a local mechanic. They'll be happy to take it off your hands.
As Thrust said, they can sell these used oil. Free money.

The used oil can be re-used but price will not be a lot. It's more for environmental issue.

Thanks all for the input, for me, the labour cost is understandable for people to do business, the thing I hate will be the inflating price of the product as the engine oil and gear oil to even double or even 50% more is ridiculous.

Learn my lesson to check the price of the material first instead of just believing all this so called one stop pro centre or myfave discount. Seems to be all this will not cost more than 150 for either engine oil semi synthetic or gear oil.
