Well, to be fair that was how workshop business works during the 80s. Before the internet and online shopping, spare parts prices are unknown to users. So the workshop would just quote the spart parts price + markup. This is how service center works as well. Their spare parts are markedup like 75%. So fast forward to today, parts pricing can be easily found online. Now only people realize workshops are charging like unreasonable price. To me, I think workshops need to change their method of business. Quote parts with like 10% markup and quote the workmanshop appropriately. Cause RM20 for changing oil is not feasible for maintaining business. I know people will think it's simple job and all but workshops need to pay for overhead. RM20 is really not enough for them to cover their 30 minutes of time. Hence the reason why other countries, they charge by the hours. No matter what you do, minimum charges is 1 hour and so on.

I think it is fair enough to charge labour fees by updating the customer with even RM30-RM50 but definitely not marking up the price of the material till 50% above others market price with profit as this is consider cheating to the customer. I believe people can report them to consumer court for over profiteering as even durian over price also can be reported.

Workshop must follow RRP. Online don't.

Case in point, Shell Fully Synthetic is RM 105 at Shopee
But workshop probably 200+ since that's the RRP price.

This is new, then this means the workshop might even have a lower price than RM105 for this product since at shopee can even sell at that price with profit if the same product.

This is the thing I am curious as the price too big difference that make me thought maybe it is low quality or even fake product online but now you mention the same one selling almost half of the price, this sound ridiculous to me already. Sounds to me like never buy anything from the workshop without checking online first lol.

Workshop marked up price to cover for:
a) their higher purchasing cost as they normally source it from neighborhood spare part shops (i.e not main dealer / stockist).
b) their purchase is on credit term instead of cash basis
c) labour to re-do or claim warranty / hassle provided in case of complaint

One may purchase it and install it separately due to workshop tied up with certain brand of lubricant or their supplier (i.e spare part shop). Do note, certain part shops only carry certain brand of brake pads...etc..(for eg: Mintye is everywhere but one prefer Akebono/ Trestor/ TRW)

My car leak oil, the workshop told me is Oil Seal problem. need a lot of works to remove gear box / engine in order to get the oil seal replace. they charge me RM330 for labor and oil seal. is that normal?

labor 250? What car? To remove gear box & engine out to change the oil seal 250 consider very reasonable nowadays.
If more bigger or modern car i think way more than that.
FYI, nowadays proper service center are charging almost RM100/hour rate for workmanship.
Removing the gear box & engine out to change the seal you think can so fast settle?

If it involves removing the gearbox to change, I am assuming you are talking about the rear/flywheel oil seal.

What I can share from my queries around to change my flywheel oil seal for Wira with manual gearbox is

labour is 250 --> good price. I was quoted 270-350 and needed 1-3days of time
oil seal 2 units = 80 --> normal price @workshops but do enquire further on the seals' material; HNBR or Viton? Go for Viton (OEM) or genuine car manufacturer's seals

Mind you, the cost quote to you above has not included the transmission fluid (MTF/ATF) yet. Depending on quality of fluid choice, it may cost as much as the labour itself.

Not sure if your car is AT or MT, coz if MT and with the transmission housing out, might as well ask the mechanic to check/change other seals related to the transmission; driveshaft seals, input shaft seal, shift shaft seal/bush etc. These things also require removal of transmission housing if any of them fail in the future; more costs.

Also, in case of economic hardship during this pandemic period, you may consider using ATP AT-205 Re-Seal to try temporarily fix the oil leak issue. But do note this method only may work IF your leaky seal is not in dire condition, meaning it can only work if the leak is minor.

250 is reasonable price for flywheel oil seal. The work takes at least 1 day. If the mechanic spend 1 day doing your car, he have little time left to do other work.

one workshop in klang charged me RM40 for CVT fluid change..while Honda Service Centre charge RM75 for the same thing , with free wifi ..LOL

May I know now what the market price to change the ATF with labour charge for H-RV?

i change CVT oil at Honda service center only about RM100. The labor charge is not expensive too since Im doing other things. I found that outside bengkel more expensive than going to Honda Service for oil change

The cvt oil is around 100. I dunno about labor charges as I’m doing other things like change engine oil etc

Rn100 for the cvt oil itself is very reasonable.
Outside market is selling rm100 above and the genuinely is doubt.
Just wondering either Honda got sell those oil and etc to user directly or not without involving labor
