Hi, I'm on the Astro IPTV Maxis package (10mb/s). I'm using the default Huawei modem + Maxis Technicolor TG784Vn router.

My internet speed on wifi has been really slow lately. My wifi download speed is between 0.87 mb/s - 2 mb/s and upload speed is between 0.64 mb/s to 2.5 mb/s.

I have been constantly calling Astro IPTV hotline to ask them for help regarding the issue, they keep sending me through a bunch of diagnostic tests and software resets etc etc through the 192.168.1.254 Maxis Gateway. It usually improves after this is done (download speed jumps up to 7 - 8 mb/s), but after a few days, it reverts back to a tortoise crawl speed.

Also, I was told by the Astro IPTV reps that I couldn't switch to the new 30mb/s package for free (which all previously existing 10mb/s customers are entitled to) because the condo I live in uses copper wire to carry the internet line to the individual units, is this true?

Thanks in advance for any advice from Lowyat forum users.

The default maxis router need to be replace with a better router if you are keeping it on 24/7. Most default ISP router be it TM or Maxis cannot survive without reboot for long time.
Secondly, as for your condo able to support 30mbps, check with Maxis because they are the one who knows what speed your place can support.

If TS is ok to lose access to VOD then yes, it’s possible to replace to 3rd party router, if not then cannot replace already.... because Astro IPTV(live TV) is on different Vlan than internet

Maxis may not help because he’s using Astro IPTV, only Astro can Provide support, if call maxis they can’t find the account

Oh, I am aware that my condo uses copper wire, it's a pretty old condo, built before fibrewire was introduced IIRC. I'm just wondering whether what the Astro IPTV reps told me (that I can't upgrade to the 30mb/s package because the copper wire cannot support it) is true, or they're just using it as an excuse to not help me upgrade my package (for free).

So there's no way at all to keep the VoD if I switch the Maxis Technicolor router to a 3rd party router?

Also, is there a way to set up an auto reboot for my default Maxis router so that it can solve the slow wifi speed problem?

I also don't keep my router on 24/7, I usually switch it off around 11pm and switch it on again at 8 am when I wake up, if that makes a difference.

(the problem I do have with having to continuously reboot my modem is that I use a wireless Canon printer that relies on my home Wifi to set up a connection between my devices (laptops / smartphones) to the printer. Everytime I've reset / rebooted my Maxis router, I have to do the entire Wireless setup for the Canon printer AGAIN, which is very tedious.

Just buy those power outlet timer. Put one at the router and another at the printer. Set the printer timing to boot 5-10 minutes after router boot.

Nope, I had to buy the digital timer to reboot the router

Nope, I had to cascade router to retain the VOD function

Modem>maxis router(Astro IPTV connects to this router)> ASUS router(all other devices connects here- 3rd party router)

For the 30mbps capabilities it depends on the infra, may not support it as wellmztang52

Could be due to band clashes with your neighbour's since it slowly degrade after reboot.
Try connect a dualband AP if that is true, use the 5ghz.

If you are happy with current 10mbps, should stay with it. Usually any package change triggers new 24 months contract.

Thanks for the advice regarding cascading routers, power outlet timers and dual AP guys. I'll definitely put those tips into action once I have the time to get all those equipment.
