Just received my Series X last Sunday.

Are there other LG OLED E6 users here?

I am seeing quite a bit of banding, not during gameplay but during video sequences.

This is quite evident in Star Wars: Squadrons and Control, and to a lesser degree in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

I currently have display settings set to 10-bit color and YCC422 is enabled.

Cue "I'm too old for this shit". I'm just turning 41 next month, and I feel old as hell sometimes. Everything hurts, I can't stand modern music, games now feel too money-grabby. Still, I will always love video games, even if I'm mostly reading articles or watching other people play. Old games on the other hand, I still love. I just got around to playing and finishing Elevator Action Returns last weekend. Now that's my jam.

Still young la... i'm 43 already, and I spend equal time with my Series X and my MiSTer

mine was an AMD Am386DX-40, lasted me quite a while, basically can run almost any games we threw at it, just need to tweak config.sys and autoexec.bat tongue.gif
it even survived until Win95 era and played Wing Commanders after adding soundcards and a CD-ROM drive
imagine installing Win95 from diskettes!  ohmy.gif
*
You managed to get your 386DX40 running Win95??

I couldn't even tolerate Windows 3.1 on it.. of course mine only had 4MB RAM and a 40MB HDD
sound card was a mono 8-bit Sound Galaxy NXII, no CD-ROM drive

The most modern game I ran on it was DOOM, but had to reduce the viewport to at least 50%

What's your take on the Mister? Is it as good as real hardware? I know the whole point of the Mister is that it does HARDWARE emulation of the original console. It's not just emulating the software.

But a part of me still prefers running the original games on original hardware. I have to admit freely though. Those games are mostly for the sake of collecting, not for playing.
*
I am using MiSTer to emulate hardware that I am not willing to spend money on, so I cannot say how truly accurate it is, but gurus have told me NES and NeoGeo memang 100% hardware accurate la.

I use MiSTer as an alternative to buying real hardware, because there's no way I can afford a NeoGeo or Capcom CPS2.

I did test the SNES core a bit, and as far as I can see performance is identical to Analogue's Super Nt.

Ha!

I used to be able to beat the DOS version of Golden Axe with Ax Battler without losing a single life... now I can't even beat the first level on Megadrive tongue.gif

To be fair the DOS version was gimped. I too was an expert on the DOS version. Then one day I found the arcade version in Subang Parade and konon wanted to 1 coin the game. Holy shit it's hard.

The DOS version had a lot of things missing / changed too.

1. Only 1 magic animation for each character, regardless of number of potions you have
2. Special attack (attack+jump) does not knock down enemies
3. The downward stab (run, then jump and attack) does not work
4. Some extra animations like the flying feathers on eagle stage are missing

But I never knew what I was missing, so it was fine. I literally could play Golden Axe on repeat, game after game. And somehow never got tired of it.
*
Oh... didnt know got so many differences smile.gif

The top DOS games I could beat without any issues back then were Golden Axe, Gods, and Punisher.

I still play Punisher these days thanks to DOSBox. Very early open world game (although there isn't much to do outside of the mission, but you can theoretically travel through the entire virtual Manhattan).

I did a longplay of it at https://youtu.be/J9JDg-0nbTM smile.gif

These days what little gaming time I have is spent on Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Series X, and Cho Ren Sha 68K on MiSTer.

Looks like Dying Light 2 is fast becoming another CP2077. "Console GPU is holding us back". Needing PC hardware with tweakable graphics options to run smoothly. Tymon Smektala is the lead game designer of Dying Light 2 at Techland.

P/S: "servers" is typo-ed as "sewers" in the tweet below. Another reason to not bother about online multiplayer anything, PvP, PvE, or Co-op. Life gets better and simpler when you eliminate that part in a game.
*
I never bothered with online gamingl, and I don't keep up with the latest games anymore.

Just stick to playing 1-player games offline and be done with it. Always buy games 2-3 years after release at discounted prices (assuming I am still interested in it).

I am only maintaining Game Pass right now cos of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Don't know if I will continue once I am done with these two games.

I only keep up with the news to make an informed decision on whether to move a game from my wishlist into the cart, and the right platform to play/buy it on, where it's not held back by some technicalities like availability(console or specific store exclusive) or hardware restrictions. The carry-over habit of DYOR (Do Your Own Research) from investing and market trading I do.

Otherwise I'm like you, minus the "I don't keep up with the latest games anymore". I may buy my games earlier than 2-3 years after release at discounted prices, only because my platform of choice, PC, drops its price faster than 2-3 years after release. I'm just like you, except that I've a system (from the DYOR habit) I use to keep myself updated on all things tech and gaming, only because I have so much free time WFH.

Cant help it, I'm just built that way. Other people keep up with the best foods, I keep up with tech. I can eat the same food everyday and not feel bored of it, it's just nourishment to keep you alive. Just like how you can live with just FH5 and MCC and not feel bored of it (for now), it's just entertainment, not a necessity. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I don't even bother to keep up with the news biggrin.gif

Only gaming news I follow are related to retro stuff

However, if I get interested in a title I will look for reviews in places like Digital Foundry or GamingBolt.

My days of keeping up with such things and being a collector are over, tak larat dah.

I just started Halo 4 on MCC, will uninstall it from my Series X once I am done, then try to wrap up Forza Horizon 5 after that.

I bought the gamepass 1year subscription. Downloaded 6 games half off my disk drive gone haha. Quite satisfied with it for now

Offload the games that are not optimized for Series X to SSD.

I move all the Xbox One X titles to external SSD, and Xbox / Xbox 360 / Xbox One titles to external hard disk.

Series X games that I am not playing (i.e. MS Flight Simulator, Halo Infinite) also I move to SSD, so can easily move back to internal storage later when want to play.

Good idea, bro. I have an external 1T SSD. Will do as per your recommendation.
*
Make sure it is at least USB 3.1, otherwise data transfer rates would be quite slow.

I bought a USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure from the Orico Official Store in Shopee, the data transfer rate between the Xbox and my Crucial MX500 SSD is 3+ gbps.

I just pulled the trigger for Xbox Seagate 1TB expansion card for RM964 + RM99 coinsback ~Rm865 with M4G.

I find it very troublesome to keep uninstalling and redownload games and I am constantly at 90+ % internal storage capacity.

Bought from where?
I am having a hard time looking for the 2TB expansion card

RM999 is a good price, since importing yourself would easily cost around RM1060 at least smile.gif

I don't want to buy the 1TB version smile.gif

Patiently waiting for 2TB

Amazon sells it. Though it's gonna be expensive after shipping and import duty. Also, I don't think it's possible to claim warranty so you kinda have to hope it doesn't break. Got my 1TB version from Amazon last year. May this year will be one year since I got it.
*
I only see the 1TB version in Amazon, the 2TB version is not listed sad.gif

In no rush though, may ask friends to get it in Best Buy there and bring it back here smile.gif

got 2tb. $399.99 + $45.88 (pre tax collected + shipping) to Malaysia. actually quite ok the price. $445.88

If your friend lives in certain states with 8% or more sales tax, it would easily come up to $432.
*
Thanks for the link... total comes to RM1911.78 based on today's rates... this is inclusive of Import Duties deposit sad.gif

Around RM300 higher than I thought it would be... have to wait for bonus la before can afford to check out lol

Nice. For me, I just get a ssd using the discount voucher. 1TB Crucial MX500 for RM370. Its for temporary only as I am aiming for XBOX Seagate 2TB or higher in the future.
*
Wah! How you get 1TB MX500 for such a cheap price? ohmy.gif

I paid RM900 for my 2TB MX500 a few months ago

Anyone bought GTA V?

Xbox version is $10 more than PS5 version sad.gif

Is worth the upgrade? I have the PS4 version, but would like to make the upgrade to Series X version if the graphical difference is significant

Pulled the plug and paid RM97 (after conversion) for GTA V yesterday

The entire 87GB package was downloaded and installed while I finished up the final 5 levels of Halo 5, then spent two hours messing around Los Santos

Was surprised the audio is remastered with Dolby Atmos, and the graphics are absolutely gorgeous after properly calibrating the in-game HDR settings, especially when cruising around Los Santos at night. The height channels definitely come into play when there's an explosion.

It's impossible to hide that this is a last gen game despite the great lighting, and what little "ray tracing" Rockstar implemented is absolutely laughable.

However, this is without a doubt the best a non-modded version of GTA V has ever looked.

As much as I usually favor Resolution, the Performance RT setting is absolutely the best since I could not make any real difference between it and Fidelity.

This may be bias, but it's easier to drive in this Series X version compared to the PS4 version. Maybe it's because of the controller, I can't say.

hey guys, do you use tv or monitor for xbox series x? and what model?

another question is, monitor 1440p (144hz), can get 120hz on hdmi 2.0?
*
I use TV for everything, even as an external monitor for my PC (which I only use for work, no gaming).

All my consoles are hooked up to 65" LG OLED E6. Old already, so it can only support 4K60.

As for your question about 120Hz support in HDMI 2.0, it depends whether or not your monitor supports it. Even though it has 144Hz panel refresh rate doesn't mean it may support a 120Hz signal.

HDMI 2.0 has enough bandwidth for 4K120 if it is an 8-bit SDR signal and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, but I don't think any games support it.

There shouldn't be any problems with 1080p120 though.

But again, it's all dependent on the capabilities of the monitor. Best to read the manual or contact the manufacturer first before buying.

A step in the right direction smile.gif

Hopefully this will lead to Game Pass for Console opening its doors to Malaysia too
