What are the 2019/2020 recommendations ?

Need netflix, plex, youtube, twitch, the usuals.

Don't really need Chinese TV but would be nice, if able to navigate in English.

Shield TV 2017 - Netflix 4K HDR, Plex server

If you are adventurous enuff, try firestick 4k from amazon.. netflix HD@4K.. lot of US premium apps working flawlessly..

Only flaws are lot of local apps need to be sideloaded, since they are not available in amazon app store..

in my personal opinion and experience, aftv stick 4k > mibox s

firestick does it have LAN port ? Everything must be based on wifi ? Does it do 5Ghz wifi satisfactorily ?

nah.. don't have lan port.. if you want lan then you must buy separate adapter.. unless u bought a fire tv cube.. it is included.. the 5ghz is quite good enough for me.. what i like about the firestick is the menu is snappy, more snappy than mibox s..

the days of "chinese language only" boxes are long over, u cannot find them unless u buy in china.

all boxes sold internationally now are in eng.

u may want to specify a bit more:

.. netflix - must the box be able to do netflix in hd/4k? yr tv cannot do?
this is impt becos this netflix hd/4k feature is quite rare in boxes - either u pay a lot for it or give up other features.

.. plex... how r u sing it, what file types, setup u already have?

if u describe better in detail, u may get better response, hopefully not waste $$.

Tv has Netflix but prefer all-in-one

My tv is not 4K

Plex is setup on my desktop already. My tv used to have plex client but Sony not supporting it so can’t run anymore.

Plex mainly just movies and video files.

yr key requirements of netflix hd dictates it... and to be sure yr plex works well...

imo, u should get a nvidia shield tv pro 2019.

that way, u are future proof when u change to a 4k-hdr-dv TV.

u did not mention anything about audio/home theater... guess not impt.

there are cheaper (and much cheaper) boxes can do this but not that, can do that but not this.

so, it all boils down to what u MUST have.

prcies can go from rm1xx to rm2xxx.
