350d might as well don't jump. if u wanna jump camp, straight to 30D, no point to 350D or 400D.

D80 is a good choice too considering those lens u had own but it is still not too late to jump.

D80 or 30D, ur choice.

Since u have Nikon gear, might as well stick with Nikon in your upgrade path. D80 too has a battery grip.

D80 body only vs 350D with batt grip?
or is it D80 body only vs 350d kit?
i think u better stick back to D80 or u'll have to start all over again..

Cheap solution: shoot landscape but crop your pics to be in portrait format biggrin.gif

Until you can get a D80, because if you invest in 350/400D you need to replace your lenses, not to mention your flash as well, plus batteries and getting used to another system.

There are nth wrong with 350D and 400D, just that TS want to sell his D40 for 350D just for battery grip, there will be very high probability he will regret he miss other features/functions in the D40.

Unless it is a D80 or 30D, then it is justified.

Dude, pls be realistic, dun ever start with the 1DM3, consider the budget of TS. When ppl ask recommendation on whether to buy a Kancil or Wira, do u need to ask him to buy a BMW? At least i'm recommending something similar price as Wira.

TS, in your case, if u really think that u need the batt grip so badly, then just get the 350D, but think carefully, whether the reason of batt grip is the only reason u want to chg, or u might regret later.

but if i get D80, body alone already cost me around 3.2k brand new, second hand can get for what price? can advice? thanks.

can't u smell that i'm trying to be sarcastic with u?
he is asking for 350D or D80, and u point him to a body only which cost RM4K with no obvious reason given in your 1st post..
and i'm just quoting your post, and pointing the question to u, not asking the TS to get the 1DM3..

just forget it.. out of topic already..

back to the topic,
what is missing in the 350D/400D that the TS will miss?

dun forget to add in the price of the batt grip for 350/400D, cost around RM400-450 if u buy it separately, or RM300-350 if bundled..

I'd say, get D80. you already have the gears. then you can get the grip.

oh yeah, d80 or 30D , it's 2 diff class. one for beginner and another one is semi pro.

How do you hold your cam body?
I usually find it's easier on my right hand if I have it cradling the body from the bottom, not gripping from the top when shooting in portrait orientation.
See: http://www.nikonians.org/html/resources/gu...ndholding1.html

If it's your left hand that's aching, try using your elbow joint or upper arm to cradle long barrels. I find that this method also tends to dampen out vibrations and can give up to 1 stop of extra usable shutter speed.

BTW, I owned a Olympus E-330, and now the E-510 and they both don't even have options for battery grip. I shoot in portrait orientation about 50% of the time!

I shot damn lot of portraits.
With lenses double the weight of a Nikon/Canon kit, without vertical grip.
And I don't feel tired or pain.

It's just a matter of getting used to & whether the way you hold the camera is correct.

Having a grip is great, but you can always try to learna new position to hold your camera instead. When I shoot portrait, I hold the camera somewhat similar to the vertical position cjtune posted. I hold my lens with my left arm, and I grab my camera with my middle and index finger on the grip, with my thumb on the shutter release button.

btw, if u shoot a little with the "winged" position already screaming about pain, you wouldnt wanna buy those pro tele lenses that weight 1.4kg +/-.

350D? Using 30D now.

aiyoh, why those cam comparisons again? it's been asked over and over again. lol.
350D body grip is smaller than d40. From the equipment you have, stick to d80 or d200. why jump? d80 and d200 have batt grip also.

i mount an 80-200 with a sb600 and still somewhat okay. needa rest d next day though.

@ts

i think you should really ask yourself whether u need a bg. changing systems just for a bg is pretty fickle. your current gear ain`t that heavy either. have you tried different handheld positions? tripod, monopod maybe? just think wisely wink.gif

have u considered about the extra weight of a d80+bg or 350d+bg ? it might be more painful as well.
