Normal is 144 or 148..

Snowman head; don't know la... maybe lost in translation... as the heads are drawn as clowns.

As for the number of tiles, just do a count. The basic would be 144 tiles.

The 3 main set of tiles... 10k, bamboo, and dots tiles = 3 x 9 x 4 = 108 tiles.
Red, green, and white... 3 x 4 = 12 tiles.
The 4 winds (east, south, west, north)... 4 x 4 = 16 tiles.
The 2 sets of seasons/flowers... 2 x 4 = 8 tiles.

Total = 144 tiles.

The extra tiles would be:
- 4 "fei"
- 2 or 4 heads
- 4 "animals" (centipede, cockeral, rat and cat)
- 4 "fei chee yoke" (fatty pork)

The extra tiles are extra points for a higher winning hand... higher winning hand, more fun.

Different places and groups of players would decide differently what tiles to add accordingly to their style of play... a slow game or fast/easy game with extra "fei" and/or heads.

The extra tiles do not really change the game.

What makes mahjong interesting is the winning hand, and learning the types of winning hand as they have their own special names. As like in poker, there are royal flush, full house, straight, flush, quads, etc.

Mahjong3p best.

i know how to "sek wo" (win),.. but dunno how to calculate "fan" (scores)
