I just bought an Acer Aspire 4520-5803 a couple days ago. It has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. It's running Vista Home Premium 32 bit with an NVIDIA GeForce 7000M video card. At random times, the laptop will do one of two things. It will either freeze up and the screen goes blank, or the screen goes gray with diaganol lines with the laptop still running in the background. I really can't say what is causing this. It happens randomly. When gray lines appear, the laptop still seems to be running things in the background. Close the laptop, open it back up and it's fine. When the screen turns off, right before, everything locks up then screen shuts off. Laptop still has power as if it is on. When rebooted it says that the problem was with NVIDIA. Please Help!!!! I emptied my bank account for this as a gift for my fiancee. I only have a couple days left to return it if I should. Thanks in advance!!!
BTW.... I have read about this happening in a couple other instances but no real resolution was given. I'm wondering if perhaps I just happen to have gotten one of the faulty ones or if this is as simple as a driver issue being that I am using Vista Home Premium. Spending this kind of money on something and having problems with it right out of the box is a real kick in the d***. Aside from my issue, everything else I read about Acer laptops has been good. Everyone seems to like their's. Leaves a real sour taste in my mouth..... Thanks again.....Added on December 7, 2007, 11:50 amWell, after much deliberation, I have decided to return the laptop and exchange it for a new one. I've gotten the same model in hopes that I just had a faulty one before. I'll update further if the problem exists with this one.
