looks like there's no response to my question....maybe most of 4520 owners here know bout it but i will post anyway for those who might not know.

initially, the amd turion processor that this lappy use will run at top speed e.g. 1.8GHz full time even on batt or at very low load. I noticed this when I run everest and the proc speed does not change dynamically like intel processors do. So I guess this is what causes the batt to drain faster than normal.

When I formatted my friend's lappy which is a Compaq Presario that uses AMD turion too, I noticed there is an update patch for the proc in drivers cd. So I went to AMD site and found out that there is an update to fix the prob I mentioned above. I downloaded and installed it. Sure enough, the proc speed change according to the workload and power source. On idle condition, the speed is 0.8GHz..Now I can get a slightly longer batt life up to three hours of normal typing usage without the wifi on. With wifi on, I might get 2.5 hours. Hope this might be of a help.

You need to change your Graphic memory speed to something around 370-400 Mhz do not but that number too high or you will have a BSOD.
If you need to manage your CPU voltage and multiplier you can download RMclock. It work like AMD dual core optimizer but have more feature and resource friendly. You can undervoltage your CPU to save battery and lower the heat, manage how your CPU change speed to save battery.
Acer Empower technology for XP http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=102912
Tested and work fine

If I use the 6100 driver, can I still overclock the GPU using ntune?

I installed Windows Xp on this computer with AHCI.The performance still the same not worth the trouble.First you need a program called "nlite" download it then download a file called "ahci_v101012.zip" (google it) then extract it.When using nlite there will be a step call "integrate driver" or something like this point it to the .inf in ahci_v101012 folder. It quite easy you can find more information about using it on http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part2.html
Good luck cool2.gif

Anyone that have run 3DMark 05 on this lappy please share ur results here.

I have run mine with 512 ram and I got a score of 630. I tried running another test with my fren's lappy, a 4520 with 1gb ram. I used 2 configurations; one is with 128mb set to the nvidia memory and another one is 256mb set to the nvidia (this is supposed to activate the turbo cache right?)

well unfortunately, the score for both configuration is around 640 sad.gif

Anyone got a higher score than mine?

Added on January 13, 2008, 10:47 pmAnd also Aspire 4520 with 512MB ram can survive in Windows Vista??
any suggestion?

u can run vista but only the basic version...if u still want to run vista premium/ultimate with 512 ram, it will fill sluggish like XP on 256 ram...however u can always activate readybooast...it will lessen the sluggish effect...i tried once.
