" certain S-banks like OCBC allow Malaysians to subscribe to rights offerrings. That's how I ended up with 102 units of OCBC (2 units from rights subscription) "

When did OCBC do a Rights Offering ? I have not read abt this,...
*
Sorry it's dividend reinvestment. Scrip dividend, not rights issues. I confused between the 2.

Last time OCBC rights subscription was in 2014 for the acquisition of Wing Hang Bank.

Ramjade Sorry. I retract my earlier statement on OCBC's rights issue availability. I read through the offering documents for the 2014 rights and it seems like Malaysia is not on the whitelist. All foreigners are excluded anyway.

Thank you so much for the pricing list of Yuh, from the link that you have provided in the post. It seems like it didn't state the monthly maintenance fee is how much. But I would have to align with HR there and see if they are okay with neobank account or not in the future.

Haha, yea, my colleagues are rich except me @.@

But in the end, I feel like they are the extension of the existing bank, like our local neobank licenses, some of them also given to those that JV with banks here.

---------------------------------

Glad to know, since if I would to invest, the CHF will be debit into IBKR and keep it there for reinvestments.  Thank you so much for sharing this and everything notworthy.gif

From the link you share, the negative interest rate is effectively at -0.25%

Just curious, how do you know the existence of Form 60 and know so details of it.

------------------------------------

haha, you make me wonder who are you. Your replies are very  structured, detailed and informative (with source).

Now I know why Nestle Malaysia's performance is good.

I mentioned "actively investing" because you gave me the vibe that you are a full time investors biggrin.gif

So it is a surprise to see you described yourself as passive investor.

I heard many said that if we transfer from Wise to IBKR, few months down the road, IBKR will begin to questions us on some questions including source of the fund due to our Wise account technically do not have our name in it? And, is it really ok to transfer money from Wise to IBKR?

The 2 conversion shall be also same with MYR, MYR -> USD -> CHF.

I see. Do let us know with the update. Since you mentioned 2 more years later, so you only enter Swiss market this year?
*
Yuh does not have monthly maintenance fees. You can check the detailed review here: https://thepoorswiss.com/yuh-review/

Hopefully HR is ok with neobanks, otherwise your salary will be wacked by the "pretigious" Swiss banks.

Ya, the Swiss neobanks are pretty much an "extension" of the traditional banking licensees. Anyway, you can try them out and start a new thread on Swiss bank account comparison soon. tongue.gif

--------------------------------

Here's a slightly old post I bookmarked about Swiss WHT reclaim. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...#entry103087454

It all stated from the link above. Back then I was just curious and it's small talk of some sort. Then with Hansel's encouragement, I started emailing the Swiss Federal Tax Administration for further details about how to reclaim WHT etc. That's how I slowly acquire the necessary knowledge. You can always email the FTA via the link below and a "tax specialist" will reply you within 1-2 days.

https://www.estv.admin.ch/estv/en/home/fta/...patory-tax.html

------------------------------

I have PMed you my LinkedIn and contact details. smile.gif

I am still a full-time student, so I have free time between classes and sometimes one 1.5 hour class a day. Next time when I start to work, maybe things are different. We shall see then.

There are comments here previously about Wise transfer to IBKR having AML issue. I think it's around 2-3 members getting queries from IB on AML matters and it seems to be USD having problems. (Those members usually use ACH transfer from their Wise USD account directly into IBKR's USD cash balance). The advice from me is the same as Ramjade, you are better off with an SG bank account (Maybank SG/CIMB SG) with your own name and transfer funds from there. Then there is no room for dispute. Fintech are good for transferring funds between Malaysia and SG bank accounts in this case since both receiving/sending party is you, again no dispute.

However, I personally tried transferring CHF directly from my Wise CHF cash balance (no CHF account details, so in terms of AML, worse than those with USD account details) directly to IBKR. I transferred 899.50 CHF (0.5 CHF is Wise transfer fee) and received it in IBKR under an hour around 4-5 pm Malaysia time. Maybe the amount is small and just one-time, so it didn't trigger IB compliance department's alert. In the future, it's best to do double conversion SGD -> USD -> CHF if the amount is large to be safe. You won't lose much as IB's rate aren't too bad.

And as you can see in the date, I started investing this year around end of January.

QUOTE(joeblow @ Sep 22 2022, 03:47 PM)
Hi all,

Can I check the current best (safe and cheapest cost) for transferring large amount (6 digits) to IBKR from Malaysia?

Is it still transfer to SG bank then from SG bank to IBKR Citibank SG account then covert from there? I notice lately from IBKR browser portal now they have a link/button to convert the currency... no more confusing conversion using the IBKR windows app....

Or possible now to just convert to USD in Malaysia USD account, eg HSBC Malaysia, then TT to IBKR directly?

When I go IBKR website they got confusing (at least to me) instructions to wire via ACH etc. Many thanks for advices.

Yesterday I checked if I go through Rakuten, the difference compared to online rate is about 0.6%. Of course the transaction fee a lot higher than trading in IBKR, but if amount is big works out to be 0.5 to 1% more. Meaning total costs around 1 to 1.5%. I am referring to buying US ETF. Rakuten fee rm100 cap, and stamp duty rm200 max.

I read from news that DUIT and PAYNOW in some kind of collaboration that will do instant currency transfer at minimal rate, resulting in money changers needing a new business model. Hope it comes soon...
*
The safest way to transfer is always from your own bank account over to IBKR. Since the account is in your own name, there is no further dispute. Either TT from HSBC MY (check the total cost though) to IBKR, or use the SGD intermediary route which requires having an SG bank account, then covert SGD to USD from within IBKR.

ACH works too (e.g. with Wise USD account details) but there were past mentions here that the money was stuck with the intermediary banks for some time before being released. It could take days to weeks.

You can refer to this video tutorial by Ziet if you are interested to know how to use ACH to transfer to IB via ACH. Pros and cons are discussed as well.

private/premier account then your GRO can do everything for you, including nego for best rates... wink.gif

Fair enough, Wise is only 30k maximum using FPX. But I think he can split over many "tranches".

IB users can consider US Treasury bills if you don't have access to SG T-bills.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/...-bills.6813629/

QUOTE
Extremely low [trx charges] at Interactive Brokers. At some U.S. brokers there's no charge to buy U.S. Treasuries.

This is a bit misleading if you consider 5 USD min for IB tiered UST. But it also depends on the amount you purchase.

QUOTE
Individual U.S. Treasuries (not within a fund "wrapper") are completely U.S. tax free when held by non-U.S. persons. There's no U.S. estate tax on U.S. Treasuries when held individually (not within a fund "wrapper") and when held by a non-U.S. person.

QUOTE
U.S. Treasury Bills can be very appropriate for residents of Singapore who are looking for a short-term parking place for U.S. dollars. It could be for an anticipated upcoming U.S. dollar purchase (such as tuition at a U.S. university or a vacation in the U.S.) They're not for everyone, but they do have reasonable roles to play. Tenors are available as short as 4 weeks.

U.S. Treasuries are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. federal government. The minimum face value is US$100, so they're designed for investors/savers of all sizes. They're available in unlimited quantities with no monthly or per person cap. They're not oversubscribed, at least not for individuals (including extremely wealthy ones buying lots of U.S. Treasuries). Practically any broker can facilitate purchases and sales of U.S. Treasuries, although U.S. brokers such as Interactive Brokers tend to work much better than non-U.S. brokers. A minority of residents of Singapore might be eligible to open a TreasuryDirect account and buy/hold them directly with the U.S. Treasury. Both nominal and real return (inflation indexed) U.S. Treasuries are available, as you prefer.

OK, was thinking of withdrawing USD so that in future can use the linked debit card for direct USD transaction (e.g. online purchase or overseas travel).

I didn't know that IBKR is giving interest for USD balance, then at least can keep there while waiting for trading opportunities..

In celebration of the upcoming World Smile Day on 7th of October smile.gif, something amusing to brighten your day while I read the above book.

The author quoted an old book "Buyout", published back in 2001 and the author, Rick Rickersten, private equity deal practitioner helped translate some "complex" financial jargon commonly encountered in private equity pitchbooks/deal making in layman terms.

Read all these in this "Glossary of Investment Banker Speak". You will find them useful in your own evaluation of companies in the future when conducting fundamental analysis of corporations.

http://buyoutbook.com/bb_excerpts3.html

Term or Phrase English Translation

Strategic investor Investor who will pay a preposterous valuation

21 years has since gone, yet surprisingly the "translations" are pretty much applicable to this day.

Yes that one. Get your IB account set up first and deposit SGD, then we can guide you on how to buy SREITs.
