Thank you for the breakdown. That's really quite cutthroat eh.

isn't that kinda more expensive than remittance from Malaysia CIMB itself?

this is why Wise is so popular now.

just did a transfer from Wise to IBKR last Friday. Usually I would receive it on Monday.. but until now can't see the money.

it is a bigger amount than usual. Anyone experienced such delays before?

Hope I dont have to wait till 5 working days for it. No email nothing from IBKR also, Wise side said money has been sent. I used back my favourites in Wise after last successful transfer to IBKR, double checked details there all correct.

Logged a ticket to IBKR also but as usual they slow to respond.

until now haven't see the money.. I chat with IBKR support person they say they cant track. If really transfer fail will get back refund in Wise.

then the support person advise me better transfer from via bank wire (e.g. CIMB SG), safer this way. Next time I think I will stick to transferring using CIMB SG (local bank > Wise send SGD > CIMB SG > IBKR covert to USD)... more peace of mind doh.gif

np...  2-3 US working days to arrive is normal for ach... this inter-bank system very slow one...
*
Coz so far I transfer all next day can arrive. This is the first time taking longer. Likely the bigger the amount the longer the wait.

Any reason why you are not using cimb Singapore to IBKR?
*
Coz it is cheaper. Ziet Invest video got compare both. Cimb SG for Malaysians we need do x2 currency conversion, at Wise then at IBKR .

But imo after this likely I will use cimb sg. Can’t wait like this not knowing what’s going on.

I see.

I saw that video as well. I am more familiar with cimb method and the savings using direct wise is not that much actually for someone that rarely transfer the money like me.

Also using cimb, the transfer to IBKR is lightning fast to my standard.
*
From CIMB SG to IBKR, how fast do you usually get the money usually?

Probably this question has been asked before. [IBKR charges $0 inactivity fee and $0.35 per transaction under Tiered]. So my question,

1) What's the sweet spot amount for DCA using IBKR on per Week/Month/Quarter.
2) Will you forgo the saving interest and parked lumpsum money in IBKR just to skim on the $2 conversion (if using CIMB SG with a plan to deposit every 3 months and then DCA accordingly every month).
*
DCA doesn't have to be every month.. if you have high income maybe possible to do so (like earning RM10k a month without much commitments).

meaning of DCA is regularly invest your money into stocks or ETFs.

sweet spot depends on how much you can save and earn.. for me one time transfer of RM2-3k every 2-3 months is my sweet spot. Some people can transfer more like 5k each time. So depends on individual earning power and savings.

hence why your main source of income is actually the most important... need to keep think of ways to grow it further.

Using Robos like Stashaway, KDI Invest then easy to DCA monthly or even weekly.. but their downside is management fees every year and can't control what they invest in.

Waiting for the EPF 10K, then i will lumpsum all (include April saving) to IBKR just to save some on the conversion fee. Then DCA accordingly for the next 3-4 months.
*
yes if it's me, I will transfer 10k in.. then slowly buy when prices drop, or just DCA once every few months.
likely prices will fluctuate due to rising interest rates. Inflation now at 8.5% at US. Fed already confirm will have 6 times interest rate hikes.

hope the Ukraine war will be over soon.. stocks will improve once there's no more war. Uncertainty only harms the stock market. Some are afraid of all out nuclear war with Russia.

dry.gif  I'm very new into investing, I don't have enough experiences to tell whether the market is good or bad now. But I'm sure that it will be OK for me as long as I'm investing now than never invest at all. The recent price fluctuating did take a toll on me, last week I'm jumping on Tesla boat when the price is $1120, happy just for a day then next thing i know it drop to $980 on Monday. Kind of lost myself not sure whether this is the First lesson of investing in the stock market = Be "Mentally Prepared".

Look like the Ukraine war won't stop anytime soon, US seems to intervened now by providing more weapons to Ukraine Military.
*
my total paper loss in IBKR now is around USD 240 (after deduct x1 free Apple share and free IBKR shares). They are unrealized loss as long you don't sell. I will still continue to DCA.

i'm in worse situation than you coz I started investing on December last year, when things were still rosy before the Fed announced interest rate hike.

if started this year is good.. as all the stocks and ETFs are price lower. So when they start to grow again you will see more profit. laugh.gif
be a long term investor, at least hold 3 years before see real growth.. that time if need to sell some for cash then go ahead. But best is don't sell if don't need the money.

As long you confident on what you're investing in, then continue holding. Read and get updated about the company's financials and news to decide. Only rebalance or sell when you're sure there is a need. A good site to learn about stock evaluation is https://simplywall.st/ .. search for the company you like there and see if they are overvalued, their financials, health, borrowings, PE ratio etc.

if you think stocks are tough.. wait till you see crypto prices. 24/7 trading and fluctuate even more since it relies on speculation (no fundamentals like stocks) sweat.gif

I'm with those started Crypto last November... won't recover for awhile. That's what made me to look into investing in Real Company.

yea same here.. tried buy a bit of crypto before the china ban end of last year.
Then suddenly after the ban I lost 50% value in a few days time.

So Options is not an option for beginners until they have enough $$ to buy 100 shares of the shares on Cash account. So Margin account, will spend more time reading on it.
*
for me options is like trying to predict the future.. what if you use all the tools in the world and still predict wrong due to some unexpected event?
also a high entry point either need 100 shares or on margin.
for me I don't invest using margin, only what I have and ok with if meet losses. Can't afford to buy any stock or ETF x100 as well. Sure there are cheap stocks like Palantir, but how do you know suddenly some redittors will ban together and manipulate such as what they did with Gamestop? If want to do options also choose good quality stocks or ETFs that is less susceptible to market swings or these manipulations.

want simple, just stick to stocks or ETFs.

when retired one day got a lot spare cash and time, then go into options for some fun.

many articles out there push options.. but remember they are a business as well with connections. Could be they do it to boost those broker's business. Options is a good source of revenue for brokers with so much speculation and gambling involved.

I would prefer to do the trial run now then later, on cheaper but potential stocks. It's ok to lose $13,00 than to lose $400,000. (Actually not really losing, you're just buying the stock at the price you strike - the premium you earned).
Oh ya, can we do Options on Paper Account account?
*
hard to lose 400k unless if you buy some risky stock worth 400k that dropped to 0 value.

if you buy good stocks or ETF, they will only go up in time. Options are for those impatient also want faster earnings. But remember higher returns = higher risk. One wrong move in options can incur much losses.

Yeah soon will slowly transfer some to IBKR.

I would keep some in bursa for local withdrawal during very emergency cases, same goes for stashaway.
*
yea safe stocks like Maybank, REITs ok to invest in.. need careful if invest in Bursa as got many goreng2.. pump up price then suddenly mass sell.
lack of foreign investors also can cause this.
especially those lesser known stocks.

Can call them during their office hours and ask. SG phone support is fast and efficient.
